That's what you get when you build massive human habitation in the middle of a desert! We got 'em, too, but they stick to the wild area Marin was lucky enough to have forward-thinkers create. We gotta go THERE to see 'em, they don't sit on our front porch!

My aunt says there's a mountain lion that sits on a rock on the hill behind her house and looks into her back yard.

He's stalking them. ^_^

Hah! Where does she live? Personally, I'd love to catch more than the glimpses I have of the big cats up on The Mountain...tho' my front porch would be a bit much, I admit!

Catch the one I'm about to put up about coyotes in So. Ca.; she should be more worried about THEM!

She's just out west of us in Tooele (pronounced "Twila" for you non-Utahans), just right against the foothills of the Oquirrh (Ochre, we have a statewide spelling pandemic) mountains. It's actually a true story, though I completely deserve retribution for that last one.

We don't have really have any coyote problem, though I've seen a few of them around. They don't bother coming into town or garbage diving, I think they must just have an easy enough time catching rodents and rabbits.

Every now and then a cougar will tree itself in one of the suburbs, and animal control will go out and tranq it then release it. I've always wondered if animals feel the same way someone does waking up in a strange hotel room after a night of drinking.

Yeah, much like us, you have enough open space they don't NEED to prey on pets and children. Ours, too, have a lovely diet of rabbits, rats, etc., and that's the way it should be.

You're by far the only place with a "spelling pandemic" (I love it!), it's true all over. Ironically, I can always tell when I'm talking to someone outside California because they pronounce it "San Ra-fay-el", and to Californians it's Rafel.

The one that gets me the MOST--probably because it's French (I don't like the people, but I LOVE the language) is Coeur d'Alene, which Idahoans (and most others) call Coredelane. Yuck! And for such a gorgeous place, too!

Given the city is named after the Coeur d'Alene People, a tribe of Native Americans who lived along the rivers and lakes of the region when discovered by French Canadian fur traders in the late 18th and early 19th century, it's especially egregious in my eyes. The name Coeur d'Alene translated into English means Heart of an Awl. Why an awl I have no idea!

No, no, keep it up! We NEED more of a sense of humor here; we can never get enough--most of what we have is UNINTENDED humor as it is...
