"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Gotta love this gem from the chosen spokesman of the right, Ann Coulter:

"When contemplating college liberals, you really regret once again that John Walker is not getting the death penalty. We need to execute people like John Walker in order to physically intimidate liberals, by making them realize that they can be killed, too. "

One John Walker was convicted of spying for the Soviet Union. In fact he pled guilty to leading an entire spy ring. He should have been executed for treason.

Another John Walker (Lindh) was a United States citizen captured as an enemy combatant during the invasion of Afganistan. He was charged with a number of crimes related to his service with Al Queda and the Taliban. He pled to helping the Taliban and to carrying explosives while committing a felony and got 20 years without parole.

He said: "I provided my services as a soldier to the Taliban last year from about August to December. In the course of doing so, I carried a rifle and two grenades. I did so knowingly and willingly knowing that it was illegal."

Some would call that treason.

I think the real lesson here is that we need to be harder on people named John Walker who commit crimes.

Except that the Bush era prosecutors, at the height of the anti-Taliban war hysteria, weren't confident that they could get a jury of citizens to convict them, so they settled for plea bargains on lesser charges, and shorter sentences.

Tough talking Bush bullies with no real moral courage, just a lot of BS.

— Rush Limbaugh
Time Magazine, June 24, 2001

I know, I know - Rush Limbaugh in no way represents the right...

Riiiiiiight.

Let me guess - Glenn Beck also in no way represents ANYONE on the right. Right?

GLENN BECK: "I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out of him. Is this wrong?"

Of course, he also joked about murdering Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi on his failed TV show.

All of which Rappy will now insist never happened, or in no way represents anyone on the right.

Prove me wrong, Rappy. Denounce these thugs.

Wrong on the facts twice there, Rappenfuhrer.

from Wikipedia:
Quote:

Michael Chertoff, then-head of the criminal division of the U.S.Department of Justice, directed the prosecutors to offer Lindh a plea bargain, to which, Lindh would plead guilty to two charges: — supplying services to the Taliban (50 U.S.C. § 1705(b), 18 U.S.C. § 2, 31 C.F.R. 545.204, and 31 C.F.R. 545.206a) and carrying an explosive during the commission of a felony
(18 U.S.C. § 844(h)(2)).

Lindh accepted this offer. On July 15, 2002, he entered his plea of guilty to the two remaining
charges. The judge asked Lindh to say, in his own words, what he was admitting to. Lindh's
allocution went as follows: "I plead guilty", he said. "I provided my services as a soldier to
the Taliban last year from about August to December."

So he was never CONVICTED of anything-- they offered him a plea bargain and he took the deal.

And the charge NEVER WAS TREASON-- it was "providing services " and " carrying an explosive device."

And that's what I wrote way up there, days ago. ( EDIT- time & date stamped Oct 27, 04:53, that's AM.) The government had so little confidence in its case, and so little courage, they offered him a plea bargain on lesser charges, and a reduced sentence and he took it.

But don't let the facts get in your way, ReichMarshall Goering-- keep up your Big Lies for the Ministry of Propaganda.

Where was I wrong ?

Quote:

John Anthony Walker, Jr. (b. 28 July 1937, Washington D.C.)[1] is a former United States Navy Chief Warrant Officer and communications specialist convicted of spying for the Soviet Union from 1968 to 1985, at the height of the Cold War (1945–91).[2] In late 1985, Walker pleaded guilty in a plea arrangement, whereby he testified against conspirator Jerry Whitworth, gave details of his espionage, and negotiated lenient punishment for his son, Michael Walker.[2] During his time as a Soviet spy, CWO Walker helped the Soviets decipher more than one million encrypted naval messages,[3] organizing a spy operation that The New York Times reported in 1987 “is sometimes described as the most damaging Soviet spy ring in history.”[4] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Anthony_Walker

So, those convicted of spying against their country aren't traitors or treasonous ? It was unclear, from the original quote by Ann Coulter, exactly who she was referring to , when she said " John Walker ".

But by all means, wallow in the minutia and semantics of who was being discussed, who was convicted of what, as if any of that makes a hell of lot of difference w/ regards to the over all point.

If you want to go chasing that point off the cliff, you're on your own.

Admission of guilt isn't a conviction ?

Well, there was a plea deal, and punishment was given, so if you want to go that route, have at it.

John Walker was guilty of spying, got caught, and was punished for it. Those are treasonous acts, regardless. Not real sure what you're getting your panties in a bunch over... but oh well.

Those shown to be traitors have been put to death... whether they were taking up arms against their country, or spying against them. Either way, you're really titling at windmills here.

No, Rush said he didn't want to kill ALL liberals. He advocates leaving two per college campus. If you count all two- and four-year colleges in the country, you get a total of 4168 campuses, so Rush proposes killing all but 8336 liberals, out of a total of over 60 million who voted for Obama.

There's your "compassionate conservatism" laid bare for all to see.

Not sure how this guy beating his kid came up, but it's one sick, deluded person and posting multiple links to essentially the same story proves exactly what, I'm not sure. I agree that what he did doesn't really have anything to do with his politics...yes, he's obviously religious and no doubt a right winger, but it wouldn't be hard to find equally abhorrent left-wingers, as far as that goes.

Better to go with all the available stories of threats of violence from the right, if that's the point you're making.

How about Rick Perry calling Ben Bernanke "treasonous" and not-so-subtly hinting at what they'd do if Bernanke ventured into Texas?

Or Tom Coburn telling a crowd at a town hall that it’s a “good thing I can’t pack a gun on the Senate floor”.

Coulter is far too easy a target:
Quote:

"I don't really like to think of it as a murder. It was terminating Tiller in the 203rd trimester. on the murder of Kansas abortion doctor George Tiller, FOX News interview, June 22, 2009
Quote:

"If I'm going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot." --at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference

Quote:

"We need to execute people like (John Walker Lindh) in order to physically intimidate liberals."
Quote:

We need somebody to put rat poisoning in Justice Stevens' creme brulee. That's just a joke, for you in the media."
Quote:

A small item but the point is Nixon came in, shut it down, there was the shooting at Kent State, and gosh, I know liberals don't like it and when you look on Nexis and oh, the whole country was embarrassed. Well, I'm not embarrassed. That's what you do with a mob.
All those from 2011.

Oct. 9, 2009, House candidate Robert Lowry of Florida held an event at a Broward County gun range during which he fired at a series of symbolic political targets, including a silhouette with his opponent Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz's initials on it.

May 10, 2010, House candidate Brad Goehring from California's 11th District wrote on his Facebook page: "If I could issue hunting permits, I would officially declare today opening day for liberals. The season would extend through November 2 and have no limits on how many taken as we desperately need to 'thin' the herd."

Oct. 21, 2010, Dallas pastor and House candidate Stephen Broden said the violent overthrow of the U.S. government in 2010 should not be "the first option," but citizens ought to use "any means necessary" and that violence should remain an option "on the table."

There are too many examples to spend much time on.

NIKI2

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Damn you're good, Mike! You know, I've tried that a couple of times, Googling for old material. But it's awfully time consuming and gives me far too many wrong answers...you must have some special method, 'cuz you're GOOD!

BUT, you didn't need to look up old stuff, the wish for "libtards" to die is here pretty much every day, in various forms; anyone who denies it is hoping we'll forget whatever was written before.

Oh, hell, Niki - that one was all over the front page of the website yesterday. Kinda hard to miss it, really.

And here in Austin, the President of the UT College Republicans called assassinating Obama "tempting" yesterday.

Quote:

Facebook faux pas: California libertarian and Tea Party darling Jules Manson is caught calling for the assassination of President Barack Obama and his children.

On Sunday, many Facebook users were greeted by the shocking spectacle of a California libertarian and Ron Paul supporter by the name of Jules Manson advocating for the assassination of President Barack Obama. Manson, a failed politician, recently ran for and lost a seat on the City of Carson’s City Council last March.

The following is the text of Manson’s racist, treasonous, deplorable post:

“Assassinate the fucken nigger and his monkey children”

Manson posted the disturbing and openly racist call to assassinate Obama and Obama’s children on his own Facebook wall, which was open to the public. Manson, a Ron Paul libertarian, was angry with Obama over a policy matter.

Interesting that, per the Facebook capture linked to the article, these comments were in response to Pres. Obama signing the Defense appropriations bill. The same bill you responded to with:

"God. Fucking. Dammit."

"I held out some small hope that Obama would actually live up to his veto threat, but like Anthony, I doubted him. And now he'll sign the piece of shit bill they present him."

"Chip by chip, they chisel away at the marble foundations of the Constitution, until nothing remains but a pile of rubble."

There were also allusions to the "grassy knoll".

So if this guy's not peaceful and tolerant (and he's apparently not), what does that make you?
