Ron Paul Draws Massive Crowd Of 5000 In Illinois

Campaign forced to move event to arena as thousands turn up; rivals draw crowds of less than 100.

GOP presidential contender Ron Paul continues to draw massive crowds as he campaigns across the country. Yesterday saw almost five thousand people turn out in Illinois to see the Congressman, while his rivals can only draw crowds in and below the hundreds.

Paul’s supporters will once again be asking serious questions as to where his rivals are getting their votes from, as another raucous mass of humanity provided the Congressman with a rock star welcome.

The original venue of Foellinger Auditorium, around a 1500 capacity building at The University of Illinois, had to be switched to George Huff Hall, a gymnastics and volleyball arena, following a deluge of early RSVPs.

As he introduced Paul, Illinois Republican Rep. Tim Johnson told the crowd that they were part of the single biggest turnout of Paul’s 2012 campaign to date.

Temperatures reached 80 degrees outside, yet the un-air conditioned Huff Hall was bursting with supporters who boisterously chanted “President Paul” over and over.

Paul spoke for around 45 minutes on a host of issues including The Federal Reserve, the IRS, The Patriot Act, and even the issue of students being able to choose their own mascots.

“The Patriot Act never would have been passed,” Paul urged, “if it had been called ‘Repeal the Fourth Amendment’!”

The Congressman also told the huge crowd that since the current administration passed laws by executive orders, a “constitutional president can use an executive order to repeal those laws.”

“We have a reasonably good constitution,” Paul added. “It’s just — we need to use it once in a while.”

Of course, the event was not covered by ANY mainstream media sources. As we reported yesterday, the last embedded reporter covering Ron Paul was reassigned this week.

The Washington Post, meanwhile, was covering a Newt Gingrich event not too far away in Rosemont, Illinois. Seventy, yes 70, people showed up, prompting the reporter to write “There were all the trappings of a campaign event, except one — the supporters.”

“A half-hour before the event started, only one woman was seated in the ballroom; most of the chairs remained stacked at the sides of the hall.” the report stated.

Earlier in the week, Mitt Romney drew a handful of supporters to a small park in St. Louis, complete with adventure fun slide and swings.

And these were the scenes at the weekend at Rick Santorum’s Kansas town hall meeting where 150 people showed up.

The reality is clear – Ron Paul has a dedicated mass of grassroots popular support, while the other candidates are relying solely on media bias and establishment backing to get ahead.

Watch Paul’s speech to the record breaking crowd in Illinois below:
