Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

Is anyone familiar with this upcoming MMORPG? I have heard rumor it will abolish the traditional gaming framework by having no levels and utter customization of power choices. If true, I feel it may provide the revolution that online gaming has been waiting for.

Can anyone confirm? Is anyone testing this product?

Hey Anthony,

Not testing, no, but I've looked into this one, watched its development. I'm smelling a lot of "if," sad to say. And the graphics, particularly the animations, look a mite clunky to these eyes.

The more likely game changer as far as I can see is Guild Wars 2. Most of these mmo's, TSW included, come with all kinds of amazing plans and promises but they don't tend to show you what the heck they really mean until launch. And by that point, a lot of the promises have vanished. GW2, on the other hand, has been pretty open handed about how they plan to change the paradigm. And there's a ton of video on youtube showing the game. The idea of an MMO without raiding sounds like heaven.

But there's no way to know until we play these things, unfortunately. I had really high hopes for SWTOR, first impression was pretty stellar, and now I'm finding the utter sameness of the "different" "worlds" is really getting me down. Haven't given up yet, still enjoying the story, but I'm not dying to play it either. Le sigh.

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

That's what they said about Star Wars Galaxies. And it started out that way, but eventually newcomers to the game were having trouble figuring out what to DO. So they added the traditional RPG elements like leveling attacks and mob to fight.

It's a good idea, but practically I'm not sure it lasts long.

Sometimes there's an elegance in simplicity.

Not just a shorter learning curve, which can be benefit and curse, but in that actual fun factor as opposed to trying to make the game a second job, that being one of my pet peeves about most MMOs.

That's kinda why I really do like World of Tanks, well, that and my admiration for "heavy metal", heh.
Fifteen tanks, on a battlefield - you try to kill them and take their turf, they try to reciprocate.
One side wins, one side loses, and even on the losing end there's fun to be had - my Panzer B2 had an EPIC last stand after a crash to desktop had me logging back in as my team got wiped 14-0, and I had that little psycho "moment" I sometimes have....

Which Anthony knows quite well, and I took it to em and fought their ENTIRE DAMN TEAM for almost three straight minutes (Steel Wall, of course) and clocked out at 5-15, so what if we lost, that was awesome!

Too many game companies these days (Lookin at YOU, EA, Blizzard, Ubisoft!) put the F.U. in "fun", and seem to forget somewhere along the line that the purpose is to entertain the user - and if it's not doin that, people go somewhere else.
