When asked why the Air Force had not considered installing an automatic back-up emergency system earlier [costing several billion taxdollars], an Air Force spokesperson told ABC News Wednesday that the service had waited for the results of a scientific board study into the mysterious "hypoxia-like symptoms" -- but that board was not ordered to look into the F-22 issues until June 2011, more than six months after Haney's crash and more than three years after the first "hypoxia-like" incident.

The stealth F-22 Raptor, at an estimated $420 million each, is America's most expensive fighter jet. Despite going combat ready in late 2005, the plane has yet to take off for a single combat mission. The whole fleet, estimated to cost U.S. taxpayers up to $79 billion, was grounded for nearly five months last year as the Air Force investigated the mystery problem, but a solution was never found and the Air Force has cautiously allowed the planes to fly since.

Too bad the dead pilots didn't invest in $10 worth of life insurance.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Guess they don't see the need to install decent oxygen systems in a plane without a mission...

So after years of denying there was a problem, now they've admitted it and grounded the planes. At this rate, in 30 years or so they might actually hint that the whole program was an utter waste of money, a completely wasteful boondoggle.

Oh, wait - this is the same bunch who still insist that Vietnam was a war we were winning, and invading Iraq and Afghanistan were good ideas...

F22...Iran's secret weapon.

I bet the entire plane fuselage emits a poison gas when it heats up from engine bleed air exhaust and supersonic skin friction, BECAUSE THE ENTIRE PLANE IS MADE OF CYANIDE PLASTIC.

That's why Boeing and private manufacturers like Cessna moved their factories overseas for their plastic planes, no worry about employee liability lawsuits or workers comp.

I really hate replying to a PN thread, but this is significant and, unfortunately, a pattern. Look up wire chafing on F-16s. It led directly to several crashes that were blamed on pilot error.

That can't be right. This has to be Obama's fault, somehow...
