Most bizarre execution in North Korea reserved for disgraced minister

Quote:

In North Korea, it is dangerous even to be a member of the ruling elite. Perhaps even more so - the closer to Caesar, the greater the fear. Hence, it is unsurprising when one of the country's top generals is executed by the regime. But it's not the fact of execution itself that is raising eyebrows, but rather the reason, and the method.

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA (Catholic Online) - North Korean state media is reporting that Kim Chol, vice-minister of the North Korean Army has been executed - by mortar.
Apparently, the minister made the mistake of having a drink during the period of mourning following the death of Kim Jong Il. During that period of mourning, pleasure and joy of any sort was strictly forbidden. Thousands of people were arrested and punished for various infractions such as not looking sufficiently distraught while appearing in public.

Several generals and top members of the military have been arrested and many executed for infractions during this period. Analysts speculate the arrests have been a pretext to purge the army of any officials that the new dictator, Kim Jong Un, did not trust.

Chol, for his part, was accused of enjoying a drink during the period of mourning, and for that he was sentenced to die in such a manner that his body should be completely obliterated, without any trace remaining, not even hair. The harsh edict was supposedly issued by the Kim Jong Un himself.

To accomplish this task, Chol was compelled to stand in a precise spot that had been zeroed in by a mortar team. Firing a single, large shell, the minister was properly obliterated in the blast. At least death was instant.

In addition to Chol, dozens of other military and high-ranking officials have been killed, although not as spectacularly as the doomed minister. Probably thousands of civilians have also met their fate before firing squads or from overwork and starvation in camps.

Of course, the deaths of thousands of civilians is nothing new in the oppressive country, but the mass purge of high-ranking officials is. If Kim Jong Un is hoping to consolidate his authority, he seems to be doing a fine job of it.

Wow. That is beyond belief. That law explains why we saw everyone there crying uncontrollably in unison after Kim Il's death. That tosses out any illusion that the son might be some kind of reformer.

Man... Korea is a strange place. On one side... execution by mortar for not being sad enough. On the other.... Gangnam Style!

Yeah, odd place.

Note to anyone - Please pity the poor, poor wittle Rappyboy. He's feeling put upon lately, what with all those facts disagreeing with what he believes.

It's like some bizarre caricature of a dictator. If this was a character on tv I'd consider the scenario to be ridiculously and unrealistically over the top. As it is... holy hell. Poor North Korea.

It's inventive, I'll give him that. I mean, a formal execution, by mortar round ? Sounds like what NERO or some such would have used, in modern times.

I was thinking more like Caligula, but six of one, half-dozen of the other, it seems.

And the idea that he wanted the man obliterated, so that not even hair would be left...

Pretty fucked up, no matter how you slice it.

Pretty much. Every time I think maybe there's a chance North Korea will have a leader we can actually talk with, they have to go and up the ante on the crazy scale.

I'm not sure if it's really more or less horrific than hanging, firing squad, or the electric chair, but it's definitely a pretty fucked up way to execute somebody.

The reason for it was IMHO idiotic, but hell of a way to go, I think that one gets you into the Valhalla gates express lane.

Even so I'd not be opposed to this particular penalty for the banksters who knowingly crashed our economy and then convinced the Gov to rob us to pay for their chicanery - although honestly rope is cheaper.

Girl Killed in Pakistani-administered Kashmir Acid Attack

By Zulfiqar Ali

BBC Urdu, Islamabad
November 1, 2012

"A mother and father in Pakistani-administered Kashmir have been arrested for murdering their 15-year-old daughter by dousing her with acid "in the name of an honour", police say.

Honour killings happen when mostly male family members believe the victim has brought dishonour to their community.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan reported 943 women were killed in honour killings last year.

That represented an increase of more than 100 from 2010.

But such happenings are rare in parts of Kashmir under the control of Pakistan.

Police say that the incident took place in a remote village in the southern district of Kotli. They say that the case was brought to their attention by the couple's eldest daughter.

It will not be clear until Friday - when the parents are due in court - if they admit or deny murder charges.

'Suspicious'

Local police officer Raja Tahir Ayub told the BBC that the girl's father became enraged when he saw his daughter "looking at two boys" riding on a motorcycle outside their home on Monday.

Police say that the parents suspected she was having illicit relations with one of the pair.

"He took his daughter inside, beat her up and then poured acid over her with the help of his wife," Mr Ayub said.

Police say that that the couple did not take their daughter to hospital until the next morning, and she succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday evening.

The head of the state-run district hospital in Kotli - Muhammad Jahangir - confirmed the death.

He said that the girl was brought to hospital in a serious condition with more than 35% burns.

"There was no way she could survive," he said.

Police say that the dead girl's married elder sister informed them of the alleged incident on Wednesday morning.

They say that she became suspicious when her parents did not allow mourners to see the face of the dead girl before she was buried - otherwise a normal practise in Kashmiri Muslim society.

In March the government of Pakistani-administered Kashmir made acid attacks a criminal offence punishable with life imprisonment."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

1,000 of these things a year. 10,000 a year not reported. And these nice folks have nukes, and we give them billions of American tax dollars. Is that where the funding comes from to buy enough acid for every household? Where does all the acid come from anyhow? Is it sold in the market next to the Smucker's grape jelly?
