America loves a winner!

A few things on what Obama says...

He starts off by interjecting this notion that his position, the things HE is promoting, are " common sense " laws. He's setting the premise that anyone who opposes HIS view of how things should be done, is anti common sense. Sir , it's a strong, position based disagreement we have. Your side does NOT possess ownership of ' common sense ' simply because you say so in a political campaign speech.

Obama THEN offers that any opposition, any flip side to his " common sense " laws is 'ginned up', which suggests that it's phony, arbitrary, and not of any REAL substance.

Oh, really?

" To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them."

George Mason
Co-author of the Second Amendment

"Firearms stand next in importance to the constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence … from the hour the Pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurences and tendencies prove that to ensure peace security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable … the very atmosphere of firearms anywhere restrains evil interference — they deserve a place of honor with all that's good."

George Washington
General and later President of the United States.

"To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them."

Richard Henry Lee
American Statesman, 1788

"The great object is that every man be armed." and "Everyone who is able may have a gun."

Patrick Henry

"Those who hammer their guns into plowshares will plow for those who do not."

Thomas Jefferson
Third President of the United States

... and the quotes go on and on. It's clear, by the words of those who FOUNDED this nation, that an armed citizenry is the best defense, from those who'd harm us , be they foreign armies, internal mal contents, or our very own government.

And then there's this...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiananmen_Square_protests_of_1989

I remember one protester in Tiananmen Square, unphased in the least by the built up of military force, or the idea his military would ever do anything to those in the square. They were, as this man said, the PEOPLE'S army, and would never turn on their own people.

You'll pardon me if smirk more than a little when I hear Obama say, in effect .. ' Trust us! '.
