His name is Jim Porter, and his politics will disgust you.

In the midst of the most promising time for the gun violence prevention debate in decades, the National Rifle Association will name a new president at their annual meeting May 3-5.

Alabama lawyer Jim Porter will replace current NRA President David Keene, whose two-year term is expiring.

Here's what the media should know about Porter, a conspiracy theorist who calls the Civil War the "War of Northern Aggression" and represents more of the same for the organization:

1. Meet The New Boss, Same As The Old Boss. Don't expect Porter to be a breath of fresh air bringing with him a new way of doing things. As is traditional, Porter will come to the presidency following two years as first vice president and two years as second vice president of the organization. He has also been the head of the NRA's legal affairs committee and a trustee of the NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund. Porter's father was the NRA'spresident from 1959 to 1961 and chaired the 1977 annual meeting at which hardliners took over the organization and began transforming it into the no-compromise lobbying powerhouse the group remains today.

2. Porter Believes "Un-American" Eric Holder And Hillary Clinton Tried To "Kill The Second Amendment At The United Nations." Porter said during a June 2012 speech at the New York Rifle & Pistol Association's Annual Meeting that Attorney General Eric Holder, who he termed "rabidly un-American," was "trying to kill the Second Amendment at the United Nations" with the help of then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He attributed this to the proposed United Nations Arms Trade Treaty, which he claimed would "make it illegal for individuals all over the world to own firearms." This is a blatant misrepresentation of the treaty, which deals with the international arms trade, not private ownership.

3. Porter Calls The Civil War The "War Of Northern Aggression." Explaining the NRA's roots during the same June 2012 speech, Porter said, "NRA was started 1871 right here in New York state. It was started by some Yankee generals who didn't like the way my Southern boys had the ability to shoot in what we call the 'War of Northern Aggression.' Now y'all might call it the Civil War, but we call it the 'War of Northern Aggression' down south."

4. Porter Thinks President Obama Wants European-Style Socialism. In a February 2011 interview with NRA News, Porter said: "I think everybody had a wake-up call after the Democrats took over Congress in 2006, and I think they had a huge shock when President Obama was elected in 2008. Most folks never would believe that there would be a run on our rights, our individual rights like there's been in this country. And people are so concerned that where this government wants to take us is to a European socialistic, bureaucratic type of government. And it's been a wake-up call."

5. With Porter As President, We'll See More Of Wayne LaPierre. In recent months, current NRA President Keene has split major media appearances with Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre. But unlike Keene, Porter doesn't have a great deal of experience as a media personality, and reportedly plans to "serve a behind-the-scenes role" and let LaPierre, known for his fiery speeches and apocalyptic conspiracies, be the "face of the organization."

Whatadoll... I'm sure the NRA will improve vastly under his reign...

Riiiiight...

My bloodkin is a lobbyist to the NRA. They and I have our disagreements, mostly from that the NRA doesn't fully endorse the militia (being the people and all).

However,

The NRA, the SAF, and the various groups composing the people... well, hell.. WE BEAT YOU.

You arn't going away, I know. But so long as the MAJORITY of the people value freedom over your ways... we will win.

So, keep trying. Its amusing at this point.

Im sure Obama and Biden (of all people) will lead you to the promised land.

Hey wulfie, you gonna grow a set and explain in that other thread how you arrived at 1/3rd of the nation supporting armed rebellion? My bet is "no".

You keep talking about a majority, when its pathetically clear you don't grasp the concept.

Don't let Niki and Mark bother you wulf... especially about grammar or spell-check mistakes....

What gets them all up in the air is that they can't believe that everybody doesn't see the world through their rose-tinted glasses.

Sure, the glasses we wear might be shit-tinted at the same time, but we're of differing opinion nonetheless....

The thing that seems uber-comical to me is that both Niki and Mark can somehow everyday walk around at a snail's pace, their boots knee deep in shit, from horrible topic to horrible topic in their Liberal brainwashed minds and find a desire to squash one of the only things keeping this country "free".

I don't know what more they want. I've already conceded that I agree that government shouldn't get in their business when they want to have homo-sexual analcourse or murder their babies.

Its hard to be bothered by things like facts when one, like our own wulftard, runs away every time he posts bullshit. As always, he proves himself to be a coward with big talk, and nothing else.

And you have cornered the market on whining, Ill give you that.

Niki,

I know it must suck for you. Everything you've believed (and forced onto other people) is falling apart.

You are being rejected on everything. From Obamacare, to gun-control... and its difficult for you.

In the twilight and waning years of your life, all you've fought so hard for is being dismantled, and the right and true things are replacing them.

You are on the downslope, and the edge is fast approaching. There is little time left to create and LIVE in the world you want. Meanwhile, the people reject you, your ideas, your beliefs.

You are left trying to create monsters to justify your defeat. You are left lying to yourself that "90%" of folks are with you.

I understand. However, instead of this pathetic sadness you spew... try to, in the end, gain some dignity. You've been wrong all your life, and your detractors have been right. You can change, in the end. Maybe even grow a little.

Its amazing how really dumb you are, wulfie. Really, truly amazing.

Which you can cite of course. LOL!

Don't worry, no need to strain the few brain cells you have, it's rhetorical - everyone knows that when asked to back your paranoid bullshit, or are shown actual factual info - you run away like a little girl (how do you reach a "full 1/3" again?? LOL!!)

Whoa, hey. Let's leave the baby out of this. We don't know what Mrs. Wulf is like, and we don't know what their kid will be like. Kids aren't just carbon copies of one of their parents.

Besides the human genome needs all the help with diversity it can get at the moment. Evolution doesn't like a bottleneck.

All of our lobbyist groups, political parties, and politicians on both sides are basically completely missing the point of anything and most of the time they fail to represent the average constituent. That's what happens when they all live in a giant echo chamber- they're all completely deaf to anything that isn't on-message. That a group like the NRA will elect someone who will just repeat what they all already think back to them is not really a surprise, just as the same is true with other groups.

Mr. Porter doesn't exxagerate much, does he? Like to see some cites of specific actions Obama has taken to make a run on our rights. Actually, like to see something SPECIFIC that Obama SUCCEEDED at that accomplished that, or was intended to do that.

Yes, Mark; as long as Wulf can keep his eyes reeeeeel tight shut and type or talk at the same time, he can continue to convince himself that people who prefer tolerance over hate are on the way "out". Anything else would kill him instantly, I'm sure.

I've given up reading his posts; just the quote I read proved it's still the same old, same old; nasty cracks at me that I'm not dying fast enough, that he and his ilk are the "only way", yada, yada, yada. Not worth the time.

Essentially and nothing of any substance, ever. Why bother?

Byte, I firmly disagree. Yes, to a large extent, what you said is true. But there definitely are representatives who REPRESENT their constituency; we have several here in Marin and they've done great by us. (And no, Pelosi is NOT my representative, for anyone not bright enough to know that.)

I did say most of the time they fail to represent their constituents, not all of the time. Though I think it's clear that all of the ones in Washington at least are completely unable to do anything and are therefore missing the point.

And I still stand by what I said about Wulf's kid.

Recent comments from me about Hero were entirely sarcastic, however.

All is clear now.

Domo, I don't even know yet whether you are for real or a sock puppet--we've had many, generally when some right-wing poster feels they aren't getting sufficient backing. So I'm not willing to put a lot of time into answering your question.

Part of it shouldn't even need answering, since I said quite clearly I don't want to confiscate ANY existing weapons from legitimate gun owners. That makes me suspicious; why would you ask if I support gun confiscation when I state quite clearly I do not?

I'll say this: Second Amendment aside, I believe the idea of doing away with private gun ownership in this country is completely asinine, and I would never, ever support it in any form. What I would like to see is some moderate restrictions on who can buy a gun, better enforcement of existing laws, and the cessation of sales of semi-automatic weapons and high-capacity magazines. That's as much time as I'm willing to spend answering your question; if you want to know more, there are numerous RWED threads within the past few months you can read which give an in-depth view of what I and pretty much everyone else still on this forum believe.

NIKI, of course I'm for real. Sock puppet? Please, don't insult me. Forgive, but I haven't read all of your posts in every thread, hence the questions. No need to get so defensive or uptight!

I don't think you're a sock puppet - but as you are new here, you don't know the history.

We have some pretty hard-core right wingers here with a track record for denying documented facts, then insisting their word is proof enough of anything. Who routinely put words in people's mouths (equating support for background checks with seizing of ALL guns, for instance). And for engaging in highly personal attacks against Nikki in particular.

They also have a tendency to create sock puppet accounts to agree with themselves on occasion. These accounts are generally easy to spot, as they come out of nowhere, go directly to RWED, and immediately start agreeing with one of said hardliners.

You having ended up in this part of the board on your first (maybe second) day here set off some red flags. I was suspicious of you, myself.

But you've broken the pattern by visiting other sections of the forum, and not immediately agreeing with the hard line stances - so while I don't think you are a sock puppet - you have to understand that there is a wariness when someone knew enters these parts, so to speak...

Domo, I'm not getting into this; we've been through it far too many times here...like I said, if you want to know more, not just start an argument, read back. Mike explained why I responded as I did; beyond that, I have my disclaimer on many threads; putting together the timing of when you posted the question with other threads in which you posted, which threads contain my disclaimer, I still question why you even asked the questions you did. You also appear fairly clearly right off to be hinting you're a Californian, and gosh it would be serendipitous to have a right-wing Californian show up to go after me, given the negative attention I get here. I have good reason to feel the way I do; if my suspicions are wrong, it's no biggie to anyone.

Either way, from what I've read of your threads since your arrival, your style of writing is familiar enough to make me doubt you, and what you write is almost entirely more of the same of what we already get from several others here. Added to the fact that you post articles from Breitbart, I don't think we'll have much to say to one another. I'll continue to read your posts and hope I'm wrong, because a RATIONAL right-wing voice is always welcome here, but given the history of this place and what I've read so far, I'll weigh what, if any, responses are worth my time to make in future.
