Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Gotta love those "responsible American gun owners":
Quote:

After Trayvon Martin was murdered, his hoodie was turned into a popular gun range target, which eventually sold out. If that weren't bad enough, now there are “Barocky” gun range targets which eerily resemble President Obama.

Zombie Industries, the creators of gory zombies targets, also produces one named “Rocky,” or “Barocky”, as it is commonly called, which appears to be an Obama effigy.

...those of us who are not on the far right already believe that we live amongst zombies. We’re already prepared, because although the outbreak didn’t begin when President Obama was elected, it increased exponentially. http://www.yourblackworld.net/2013/02/black-news/gun-supply-sells-baro
cky-target-zombie-which-resembles-president-obama
/

They changed the colors, and it showed up at an NRA convention:
Quote:

For gun-toting, Republican-supporting and President-hating Americans, a 3D shooting target that looks like an undead Barack Obama could be the perfect gift. The controversial targets have, however, now been removed from sale at the National Rifle Association convention in Texas, at the request of organisers.

“Someone from the NRA came by and asked us to remove it,” a worker from Zombie Industries, which makes the targets, told BuzzFeed.com. “They thought it looked too much like President Obama.” Another worker, who was talking to a group of men at the booth, said, “They are just scared some liberal reporter will come by and start b****ing. But ya know, he does look very familiar.”

The group seems to recognise that at a time of heightened fears over gun massacres and terrorism, encouraging people to shoot at a likeness of Mr Obama would cause upset.

It also draws attention to a desire among gun-owners to shoot at things that are a bit easier to hit than live animals, but more tangible than a piece of paper. While gun makers like to insist that people are not inspired by what they see on screen, the choice of zombie imagery follows a fashion for the genre in films and video games, such as “The Walking Dead”.

Customers can choose from “bleeding zombies” that emit a bright colour when hit, as well as “mutilating zombies” that, according to the firm’s website, “physically show visible bodily devastation when shot. That’s right, the destruction is easy to see with every shot... Mutilation baby!”

The Obama-like torso called “Rocky” is among dubious company: others in the range include a Nazi SS soldier, a “terrorist” doll that resembles Osama Bin Laden and one called “Bobo the clown”. Another is named, charmingly, “the ex”, which looks like a dark-haired woman, presumably sold to scorned gun-owners to release their frustration.

One of the "features": " Life-sized Zombie target BLEEDS when you shoot it!!!"

Of course, you've been able to get PAPER targets of an "Obama zombie" for far less than $90 for a long time now (Wulf no doubt has several), fully dressed and with the text "Looks like Obama hugged the wrong hippie after a recent speech at an Occupy movement. Now he is infected and ready to redistribute. Save yourself from the leader of the free world!"

There is just so much about this that is just....just...

Most of the ranges near me are indoor ones... so no... I dont have those silly targets. Would be fun to shoot one of them tho. (Btw, they've been out for a couple of years now.. but since your side got donkey punched over the last gun-control push, I guess you need SOMETHING to get all upset about.)

Good thing it's ZOMBIE Obama, and not actual PRESIDENT Obama.

I mean, it's not like anyone made a movie, or wrote a book about murdering him, right ?

Yeah, point being - BFD.

Well, I didn't say it WAS a big deal... but you were implying that it wasn't an effigy of Obama... which is pretty obviously not even remotely the case.

Really, this was just an opportunity to point out rappys hipocracy. A movie, made in another country, which depicted the aftermath of a Bush assassination was the WORST THING EVER to that tool - but he thinks shooting an effigy is a-okay.

You asked about rappyland - case in point.

So I have to ask, because Rappy so predictably did exactly what y'all said he would:

Rappy, was the ACTUAL President Bush murdered for that movie? Was ANYONE in the movie actually murdered during the making of it?

You've pointed out that this target is not the "ACTUAL President Obama" - so was the person killed in the movie the ACTUAL President Bush?

Yes or no.

You cared enough to note that some guy (allegedly) hung Bush in effigy, and you claim "the left" was okay with that, which rather implies that you DO care.

So you seem to have that same hypocrisy gene you're whinging about.

Not that that comes as any great surprise. You're a right-winger, after all - hypocrisy comes as easy to you as breathing!

I find the whole thing disgusting. No matter who or what is being realistically depicted in order to be ripped apart by bullets, it's feeding a rather disturbed attraction to imitating actual carnage. When it barely hides the likeness of a real-life public figure, that becomes extra-disturbing. I am seriously disgusted by people who would so gleefully indulge in that sort of violence-imitation. It seems worse than video games to me because it's a real physical act.

I'm especially troubled by the "The Ex" target. Encourage those violent revenge fantasies, go ahead. Because over and over imagining doing something like this is in no way a common precursor to carrying it out. It feeds the lowest of low human emotions. Misogyny for the win!

Note: I'm not saying this should be outlawed. I'm saying those are some sick, sick people.

I believe this crosses the line of 'responsible' free speech, and that if the writers/ directors of this movie step foot in the US, they should be detained. Threatening the life of a sitting President,(which is clearly exactly what this movie depticts ) is against US law. They can dress it up any way they want, as 'an exercise in thought provoking fiction', or what ever the hell they call it, I call it down right evil. We don't need a 'fictional' national tragedy to amuse some pin headed fascination as to how a nation copes w/ another crisis. A generation before mine dealt w/ the assassination of JFK. Where were you when you heard the news... . Virtually every man and woman who was alive then can tell us exactly where they were, and what they were doing. Since then, we've had single events which brought the nation to tears, none the least of which was 9/11.

Given today's climate in the world, with Islamo-fascist murdering folks all over the globe, this is the most dispicable and reckless piece of shit I've ever heard.

Or more likely, you have zero problem with this because it depicts a president you don't like, and you're totally okay with the idea of him being shot.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Rouka! I was surprised when I turned on my computer and saw how long this thread had become, disappointed when I saw it was nothing but the usual left-right back-and-forth bullshit, because to me it's much more. IF there had been a similar zombie target--or any other kind of target--done of Dubya or ANY figure from the right, I would be as incensed as I am about it, and, well, "EXACTLY what you said".

But it's partisan, so of course one side thinks it's just great and the other thinks it's disgusting. Got news for you: It's disgusting, WHOEVER it portrays. I thought guns were just for hunting and self-protection, useful tools, all that crap, right? Then why is it so cool to make them into a game, killing the figure of a woman--or even a zombie, since everyone fully knows that's just a fake human being? That it's a representation of our President takes it about as far as it can be taken...but that's not the basic point.

Figure of a dark-haired woman. Yeah, you need target practice like that, 'cuz everyone knows WHY. And that's the point.

Yes, Geezer, I TOTALLY decry what you described; excuse me if I don't go to the link, your description is quite sufficient. Disgusting. Only slightly less disgusting than an individual physical target figure which bleeds when you shoot it.

Yeah, Mark, the more he writes the less I see him as an individual. "Kalifornia", black trench coats, hyphenation of double-standard (which wouldn't be hyphenated), "left", "left", "left". Pretty much says it for me.

Quote:

At the National Rifle Association's annual convention in Houston, Texas this weekend, a company that sells shooting targets "designed to help YOU prepare for the upcoming Zombie outbreak" displayed much of what is wrong with the pro-gun movement with its foul "Ex-Girlfriend" target that bleeds when you shoot it. The more you shoot the iconization of the woman you hate (a 'slut' with her large breasts bulging out of her tank top) the more she bleeds and her body, once sexy, becomes mangled. It is a startling reminder of the normalization of violence against women in America, and the latest in delegitimization of the pro-gun lobby's claims that firearms are an equalizer for women.

News flash to Zombie Industries: Violence against women, particularly by intimate partners, is a huge problem in America. In fact, "Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women – more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined." In 2010, nearly six times more women were shot by and killed by husbands or intimate acquaintances than were killed by male strangers. It's not surprising, considering a woman's chances of being killed by her abuser multiply by more than seven if he has access to a firearm.

In America, women are targets, especially when it comes to guns.

When at least three women in the US are killed by an intimate partner daily, selling "ex-girlfriend" targets that normalize a phenomenon of often deadly violence against women is an outrage that demands accountability. http://www.alternet.org/nra-convention-sells-ex-girlfriend-target-blee
ds-when-you-shoot-it

Actually, I think this is worse. Given the state of politics today in this country, I guess it shouldn't surprise me that they make a target that looks like our President and bleeds when you shoot it. But this one...there is simply no excuse.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Truly, TRULY stupid "come back", Wulf. I hate the targets, but the reasoning behind them is right there in the link you provided:
Quote:

The subjects in NMH targets were chosen in order to give officers the experience of dealing with deadly force shooting scenarios with subjects that are not the norm during training. I found while speaking with officers and trainers in the law enforcement community that there is a hesitation on the part of cops when deadly force is required on subjects with atypical age, frailty or condition (one officer explaining that he enlarged photos of his own kids to use as targets so that he would not be caught off guard with such a drastically new experience while on duty). This hesitation time may be only seconds but that is not acceptable when officers are losing their lives in these same situations. The goal of NMH is to break that stereotype on the range, regardless of how slim the chances are of encountering a real life scenario that involves a child, pregnant woman, etc. If that initial hesitation time can be cut down due to range experience, the officer and community are better served.”

I gather you're pretending to say that people using the Obama or "Ex" target aren't doing so just for fun, but with the full intention of going out and shooting Obama or dark-haired women (which aren't even threatening them with a gun, as the cop targets are), since that's the comparison you're making. It fails miserably also because the cops aren't PLANNING to go shoot people like that, they're training to deal with...

Oh, shit, what am I doing? Trying to explain his own stupidity to Wulf?

Gawd, you're incredibly stupid...

There is a clear and notable difference in describing the actual murder of a sitting US President and the attempted ( albeit lame )comical portrayal of a zombie, which RESEMBLES a sitting President, being used as target practice.

I know the difference, and anyone w/ an above room temperature ( pre - global warming, that is ) I.Q. knows the difference, and to suggest otherwise is to be completely disingenuous.

Yes, the difference is that one of them is a foreign-made movie using actors, props, and fictional events, and the other is a target that you shoot at with an actual real-world gun.

Of course you and Geezer think the one you actually shoot with a real gun is less offensive. After all, it's a target that resembles a black man - of course tea-baggers want to shoot black people!

Among the list of falsities and lies you post routinely, this is a grand daddy.

But it also shows your mindset. A person IS their party, as you understand. We are not individuals, but members of groups, who are to be viewed as only that... white, black, gay, straight, Democrat, Republican.

Anyone who knows me ( on here , at least ) knows I'm a strong acknowledger in the facts which support evolution. Note how I didn't say I 'believe' in evolution. Because evolution is not a belief. It's a rational conclusion, based on the available known evidence.

But nice try on the global warming nonsense. I was being sarcastic. I guess your part of Texas hasn't gotten sarcasm yet.

Oh, and Niki...

That's hilarious, coming from you, who routinely brings up single incidents or people as indicative of "the Left" (capitalized - ALWAYS capitalized), who insists that if one person refers to the president as "a sort of god" that means ALL of "the Left" view him as god. Yeah, Cav, I'm glad YOU can see it. Obviously it's fair game for our gun bunnies. Me it sickens, pure and simple.

Excellent graphics, Mike. Pretty sad, but unfortunately, accurate.

Further on that:
Quote:

Bleeding Ex-Girlfriend Shooting Target At NRA Conference Promotes Violence Against Women

This is so offensive in so many ways, I don’t know where to begin. During Houston’s NRA Conference last week, a vendor was promoting shooting targets. One target looked so much like President Obama, it had to be taken off display. However the one ‘token’ female target called ‘Ex’, to represent an ex-girlfriend, that bleeds when you shoot her, was allowed to stay. It apparently met the NRA decency guidelines.

Elisabeth Plank from Policymic shares her views and very good research information:
Quote:

“I’m not even sure how to begin unpacking this, so let me start with some stats. Men’s violence against women is not a small pickle, it’s a huge problem. Not just all over the world and in every society, but particularly here in the United States where ”domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women — more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined.” One third of female murder victims are killed by an intimate partner.

Gun violence is a gendered issue since it impacts women and men in very different ways. Because women are more vulnerable to violence within the home than men (and men are most often the perpetrators of violence against women), the presence of a gun makes females less safe, not more. How do we know? A woman’s likelihood of a violent death within the home actually increases by 270% when a gun is kept inside the house. Homicide figures don’t lie. Having a gun within their possession didn’t protect women from murder. In fact, it accurately predicted their higher likelihood of death.

Every day, at least three women are killed by an intimate partner in the US alone.

Thank you, Elizabeth. You said it better than I would. If I were to write more now, given my state of anger and outrage, I doubt my choice of words would get past this, or most site’s obscenity ‘guidelines’ –and I wanted to get the story out.

I am grateful that we have a president who signed into law, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). I’m grateful for Women’s Right’s organizations like UniteWomen.org who have campaigns protesting violence against women and who recently began a campaign called, Unite Against Rape. And I’m grateful for sites like Women’s Health.Com that give information links and helplines for women who need help and don’t know where to find it. Through these groups and articles, we build awareness and together find ways to combat violence against women. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/05/09/bleeding-ex-girlfriend-shootin

Actually, Im saying shooting zombie targets are fun.

The police practicing to shoot pregnant women, children, old folks... thats wrong/creepy/horrifying.

Unsurprisingly, you have no problem with this.

As to the ZOMBIE targets (need to emphasize that), what do you have against women or minorities being represented? Zombies can't be blacks, or women?!!

You DO realize that the targets those police are using are no more real than the zombie targets, don't you? If anything, they're even less real; they're pictures, nothing more, and they don't splatter or bleed when you shoot them.

And why do you find it horrifying that pregnant women, children, or old folks could be criminals with guns? After all, don't you generally categorize all sorts of people as "animals"?

No, they can't be. I'm not sure if you're aware of reality or not, but zombies aren't real.
