Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Remember that Cheerios commercial about the multi-racial family that pissed off so many racists? Here's their response:

GO CHEERIOS!!! (No, Cheerios itself didn't do the ad, but that's okay with me.)

More than a problem, it's a biological impossibility.

Which begs the question... where's daddy ?

Really. Where is he ?

There's a number of potential answers for the biological father.

Maybe he is a sperm donor not further connected with the family.
Maybe he's a family friend who helped these two loving parents out.
Maybe he's as absent as the biological mother and this lovely couple adopted this beautiful girl to offer her a loving home.
Maybe he doesn't exist and they did that science-y thing where they create sperm-replacement cells with no male donor involved.

A lot of possibilities. None are really relevant here. Let the cheerios pour.

I think it's the perfect answer to the pathetic racists out there who couldn't deal with a multi-racial couple; think of the conniptions they'd have if that played as a REAL ad on TV. Wouldn't I just love it, tho'!

Of course, Cheerios itself wouldn't dare, which speaks VOLUMES about our country. I hope someday ads with multi-racial, same-sex, whatever families can air and in America without causing much comment, but I realize there are generations to go yet before that can happen. I wonder just how long, or will there always be racists around to get pissed off at anything that doesn't portray their "comfortable" world view?

Just think how totally unimportant an advertisement for CEREAL is in the greater scheme of things, yet look what still happens when a cereal company DARED to represent a happy, healthy multi-racial family. And imagine if they DID represent a happy, healthy, multi-racial, single-sex family! We still have miles and miles to go...

Poor Rap...I guess I should understand better. He IS still living in a past century (or something) and in that other world. Never heard of sperm banks or adoption or...oh, wait, why am I bothering? Silly me, he's just trying to jack the thread. Jack away, little man. By yourself. Jack away.

I love the fact that libs are making a big deal out of this while Right-Wing talk radio and TV hasn't mentioned this silly crap. Is this manufactured? Were us bigot conservatives suppose to say something?

This is why I like News Busters and Pirate News, there parodys and pictures are funny and often trash the left...and are ignored by the MSM and Entertainment media.

Oh, my goodness...one thread about something amusing and a few posts is a "big deal"? I gotta remember that for future reference!

Couldn't come up with anything relevant to say? Snark away, we don't mind! ;o)

Good question. Didn't I read that EJ isn't " married " ? And that he's not all that interested in BEING married ? ( A side issue, I understand )

Must be a sober moment for ya, huh? A cogent post, and point well made.

Most Americans are too busy to be bothered by such trivialities. Sure, the Phelps zealots may raise a ruckus, but so what ? This is just more ' in-your-face!' ism by those who want to annoy. Like the little hyper active kid who keeps begging for attention, and keeps doing more and more outlandish stuff, only to feign " What are YOU looking at ?? " when anyone glances his way.

Cute kid. Funny ad.

A cogent analysis of the Zit's post. Well done.

Yeah, Sig, I got a good giggle out of the "ad", too. :o)

I always found it ironic how the happiest and most well adjusted family on televison back in my day was the freakin Addams family - bonus points for several episodes of them displaying/teaching tolerance to others.

That's a good point. I had never looked at the show that way. Metaphor can be a powerful tool.

That was an ill-advised response to the Troll.
Mea culpa. I will try harder to stay on topic.

Oonjerah: I don't have to react to everything.

Forums are great for this sort of training.

They are, aren't they? It's astonishing the amount of our lives we can waste reacting, but that's also what forums/the internet are good for: inspiring us to react without thinking. It's a never-ending training, except for those who never try to get past Lesson #1, they just keep reacting forever.
