Not 1 person injured.

Dunno what this guy's major malfunction was, but it seems he just wanted attention. And now he's got it.

Fired 30 some shots, but apparently not AT anyone.

So, if it bleeds it leads? No injuries, so the national news media are barely mentioning this.

Shooter " I was off my meds ".

Maybe we're over medicating our youth?

Maybe. He may or may not have had problems to begin with though. Or something happened that overwhelmed him while off said meds.

At least no one got hurt. All too often these situations end in murder suicide.

Per usual, the facts of this case are slow to come out, and often jumbled.

He's now a "teen", not twenty something.

Apparently, had no ties to the school, what so ever.

Even though students need to be 'buzzed in', the shooter simply trailed someone else, as they went in. So much for high tech security.

He may or may NOT have explosives in the trunk of his car. ( Well, which is it ? )

*edit* - Seems the kid has a history of mental issues. Shocker!

a. explosives in his car? Yes or no? Does it really matter? They weren't on him when he went in. He didn't use them. They weren't actually at the scene of the crime. Having them at all may have been an entirely separate criminal matter, but not relevant to this one. In fact, that might make a good argument for his defense: "If he had explosives available, and he REALLY wanted, really intended, to be a mass murderer, he would have used them." Might help justify some sort of insanity, "getting attention" plea, which ties in with the "he fired all those shots and didn't hit anyone," argument. Either that or he's a REALLY CRAPPY marksman, which might be why he had an AK in the first place.

b. some sort of mental illness. Isn't that supposed to prevent those people from buying guns already, under the existing "oppressive, tyrannical" gun control laws? Maybe we need stricter controls, eh?

It matters because it's an either or situation. Why report on something unless it can be definitively said he in fact DID have explosives ? If there's a lead, which hints there MAY be , then run down that lead and see if it's valid. If not, don't just freaking report there COULD be something, if you don't know.

He could have a grizzly in his trunk.

He could have skittles and ice tea in his glove compartment.

He could have a DVD copy of Teen Steam ... so what ? '

It's freaking journalism 101. The mere mention of 'explosives' is just a tantalizing teaser for public consumption unless it's actually verified.

Do you know if he bought the gun himself ? Or are you just leaping to conclusions ?

A crazy person could just as easily grab mom or dad's keys, jump in a car, and drive down a sidewalk full of women and children.

Stricter gun laws are not the answer.

Aside from the great news that no one was injured, or worse, there's yet 1 more good thing to come out of this...

Atlanta school shooting averted; clerk Antoinette Tuff describes confrontation

By Max Ehrenfreund, Wednesday, August 21, 4:03

Shots were fired Tuesday at Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy, an elementary school outside of Atlanta. Police took Michael Brandon Hill, 20, into custody and said later that he was carrying an AK-47 rifle and 500 rounds of ammunition, the Associated Press reported.

Fortunately, no one was injured. The outcome seems largely due to Antoinette Tuff, a school clerk, who told ABC affiliate WSB-TV that she met the gunman when he entered the building
