Please share this email far and wide among Christian groups,” the post begins.

It’s the email address being used by a group backed by Fund Texas Women and Lilith Fund looking for volunteers to shuttle TX women around for their abortion appointments. Consider volunteering yourself. I’m not suggesting you actually take a woman to an abortion clinic but it’s a wonderful opportunity to minister to an abortion minded woman for an hour while you DON’T take her to her clinic. And hey if you can’t change her mind by the time she gets out of your car and realizes she is at a church and not at the clinic she’s missed her appointment anyway. https://twitter.com/FundTexasWomen/status/399594674937004032/photo/1

The fake “volunteers” that the post calls for are supposed to kidnap these women and preach anti-abortion views to them. The abducted women would be forced to listen while being driven around endlessly until they miss their appointment. The women would then be dropped off at a church. Abducting women to prevent them from getting the abortion they choose is a violation of the law and constitutional rights. Anti-abortion activists aren’t mere protesters. They use stalking, bombing, killing, and kidnapping as a means to an end. They believe in forcing everyone to adhere to their extreme religious convictions. Constitutional rights and the law mean nothing to them.

Fund Texas Women managed to capture an image of the post and posted it on Twitter. The group also posted a message warning women of the additional danger they now face when trying to exercise their reproductive rights.

Whoa. Super creepy. Also, an unrealistic fantasy, what with them thinking they'd just randomly get access to these women, but.. super creepy.

How could they go about stopping them? It's all "volunteers"...sure, the same car of people probably couldn't get away with it more than a few times before someone called the police, but there's no way to actually stop them from doing it for quite a while, as far as I can see.

To me, it's beyond creepy; it shows again clearly that the law and people's rights mean nothing to these activists. What they can get away with is all they care about. But then, we already knew that, given they're quite willing to kill innocent people, bomb and burn down buildings, etc. So in that respect, it's merely a logical extension of the mentality.

How would they get access to these women in the first place? It'd be organisations arranging these things and I dang well believe they make sure they know who is shuttling women around.

ETA: Anything else would just be an invitation to any kind of kidnapping, not just the anti-abortion kind.

I don't know the ins and outs of how Cicada Collective or any other group operates, how they choose their volunteers, etc. I sincerely HOPE they have a substantial vetting process because you're right about the dangers.

A quick glance at their website ( http://cicadacollective.wordpress.com/abortion-doula-training/) shows they have what they call "Abortion Doula Training", so it looks like there is a standardized method of training volunteers. Hopefully that means it would be difficult for one to "pose" as one of these doulas and get a woman into their car. Given the violence in the anti-abortion movement and the lengths to which they have shown themselves willing to go, I certainly hope that's the case.

Apparently part of the worry was that Cicada Collective's e-mail was released:
Quote:

Fears are held for the safety of women in Texas after an anti-abortion group infiltrated a pro-choice volunteering service, with the aim of kidnapping women to change their minds on abortion.

A post circulating on Facebook released the email of a volunteer group within The Cicada Collective, an "autonomous community-centred group of reproductive justice organisers located in North Texas". http://www.news.com.au/world/antiabortion-extremists-urge-kidnapping-o
f-women-on-way-to-clinic/story-fndir2ev-1226757470246

At that story, Cicada put up the Facebook post and stated "Careful screening will prevent this" and "Well, anti-choicers attempting to infiltrate was bound to happen at some point right? Here is a concerning message we got this morning. Other groups out there wanting to provide practical support to people seeking abortion care in Texas, please be careful." (Same)
