(SPOILER ALERT..... BIG TIME!!!!) FOR BREAKING BAD!!!!!!

I LOVE the finale song! I know I've heard it from time to time on Classic Rock stations when growing up, but it blew me away at that iconic moment for millions.

It's by some 60's band I'd never even known of. If you listen to the full song, I KNOW without even looking it up that Pete Cetera from Chicago's "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" is one of the vocalists of this song.

That's the first song I remember as a kid. Kind of funny that he's a young vocalist for another band 15 years earlier and it ends up being the finale song for one of the best shows ever made, IMO.

I'll feel dumb if somebody tells me Pete Cetera didn't sing part of this song, but it sounds exactly like him. If that's not him, he was whoever that wasez biggest fan....

EDITED TO ADD: Listen to this full version. Tell me that isn't 14 year old Pete Cetera made famous by his stint later with "Chicago"........

EDITED, YET AGAIN, TO ADD:

Karate Kid.... that's totally the guy who sung this song 20 years later....

Pretty awesome.....

Pretty sure you're wrong about that.

Badfinger was the first band some other little band called "The Beatles" signed to their new Apple Records label, if memory serves. Badfinger

Badfinger gets short shrift, even though most Americans would instantly recognize one of their songs if they heard it done by any of the eleventy-billion people who have covered it. The song in question is "Without You," often wrongfully attributed to Harry Nilsson, who was among the first to have a hit with a cover version of it (others include Heart and Mariah Carey, along with virtually every American Idle contestant). "Without You" is actually a collaboration between Badfinger members Pete Ham and Tom Evans, the combination of two different songs (one written by each of them), both of which had potential but no real "hook". Put together, they made what Paul McCartney called "the killer song of all time."

Incidentally, Pete Ham and Tom Evans both committed suicide later. "Can't live if living is without you." Guess that's fitting, in its own tragic way.

Meanwhile, they left some great tunes behind. "Baby Blue," "Come and Get It," (written by McCartney for them), "No Matter What," "Day After Day," and "Without You" among their best-known hits. It's often been said that you can actually identify each individual Beatle singing backup on some of their songs, and can hear The Beatles playing some of the instruments as well. I grew up hearing that Badfinger was really The Beatles under an alias, and their influence isn't hard to see. Fortunately for me, I've got the original recordings the way they were released (and the way they were intended), since the "remastered" ones are pretty awful.

"No Matter What" you say, this still sounds like the best song The Beatles never recorded. Listen for John's harmonies, Paul's backing vocal, and George's guitar solo.

Yeah... I knew after I posted about it that I was wrong.... Pete Cetera definitely found his inspiration from Badfinger and the Beatles. It's just that the ENTIRE part of that song not included in the end of Breaking Bad sounded like any chorus from any 80's Chicago song.

I never heard "Without You". I can see how that song meant a lot to some people when it came out. As far as I knew growing up it was a Mariah Carey original. Thanks for letting me know better. I still like Mariah's version. Not sure if that's because I grew up with it on the radio or she just owned it.

I bet if I had grown up with this song on the radio and had a special moment to attribute to it, it would be epic.

That's "Baby Blue" to me. I always thought it was a great song whenever I rarely heard it, but without any ties to memory it just floated around out there.

[SPOILER ALERT AGAIN] The poignant use of Baby Blue as the end to one of the best TV shows ever made has etched this song into my psyche just like fleeting memories of ex-girlfriends and every secret garden I've had the pleasure of entering.

That's the magic of TV.....

I've lived vicariously through the eyes and ears of Walter White for 5 years now, even though it was barely 2 years of his life.

His admission to his wife that he did it all for himself... because he enjoyed it....

"Baby Blue" is one of my favorite songs ever now. It means so much more to me than anyone who created it could ever have hoped.

LOL....

I'm not a huge music guy. Like anything else, I learn new things everyday. Whenever I heard "No Matter What", part of me would think Beatles. I didn't even know I knew other songs by this band.

Born in the 70's, but only spending 4 months in them left me with a lot of spots in my classic rock knowledge.

Honestly though... Peter Cetera had to have a boat load of influence from Badfinger....

Definitely a fitting end for one of the best TV shows that ever was.

They made great use of "Crystal Blue Persuasion" by Tommy James & The Shondells, too. :)

Crystal Blue Persuasion was great too!

I didn't even know it was TJ$tS!

I might have some rediculous claims to the 70's since i was born in 79, but i envy your way of life back then so much.

How the hell do you start a cult when everyone has 3-second-access to "Jeeves" or whatever Internet Gods they pray to?

Crimson and Clover..... Bitch!

Libraries are full of Truth.

Libraries will die....

Internets are just a mockery of the Truth...

Internets replace Libraries everyday....

Don't ask me to fight anymore....

They weren't ready for that then....

I'm just the Fool on the Hill....

It's actually quite fun to stop hounding yourself to be perfect for a few moments and take solace in the fact that most of the people you trust would sell you out in a second if somebody "connected" ever felt the need to contact you....

Such is my life....

I'm halfway there. No debt, in my 30's.

Most of them will die off in the next 10 or 15.

Now that my troubled bro finally got his government fall-back and my awesome bro married himself into a "Mr Mom" situation, the rest of my life is superfluous.

It's not a cry for help.

It just is what it is.

Everything I wanted to see happen has already happened.

Although it's not technically living on borrowed time, I would ask you to forgive me if you make a tray of Lasagna and I don't taste it....

I'm ready to die.

I welcome it.

SPOILER ALERT

I loved that Jessie wouldn't do it for Walter.......

I HATED THE WAY IT ALL ENDED, but it couldn't have ended better at the same time.

If there was one flaw in the ENTIRE story it's that they gave Walter White an easy out with a gut-shot....

I don't even know how he got that in the struggle. Even after the "hit" he put on Jessie, he did EVERYTHING in his power to make sure Jessie survived that, moths after he was supposed to be dead.

The joke is on ALL OF YOU who take it at face value though....

Walter White didn't die, conveniently, of an accidental ricochet.....

If you were paying attention in the last 3 episodes at all, you would have realized that the first 4 1/2 seasons only encompassed less than 2 years of Walter's life, from the veggie-bacon lovingly spread on his plate on his pre-cancer 50th b-day by skyler, to his self-made 52 at a Denny's years later....

In the end, Walter always loved his family.

He HATED himself.

All of that said.... Heisenberg didn't die of a stray gun-shot wound from a device he created to kill at least 10 Nazi fucks............

It might not have been Ricin or Lilly of the Valley....

But he died with a smile on his face and made sure he would never wake up....

The bullet in his stomach was just an easy way out for "easy people"....

HAVE YOU EVER TRIED "GOOD" METH?

Me neither, but given things I battle with from day to day I get "it".

If the answer is no, you have no idea about the drug cocktail that Walter White gave himself the pleasure of enjoying before those Nazi soldiers stormed the place....

Damn good back story on the Best Band that gets No Respect, Badfinger. I learned something here today, and the Beatles influence is obvious in the "Come And Get It" hook (also the lyrics).

Some of my fav music: Come and Get It, Without You (which I always attributed to Harry Nilsson, who himself was tight with the Beatles)
No Matter What, Baby Blue and Day After Day (which also sounds like a Beatles tune)

It's no wonder I enjoy their music so much.
