I don't think I'm a sissy type at all. I was raised by a domineering Mom, but my Dad played a large role in my childhood too. I'm not the most confident guy in the world when it comes to interaction with others, but when it comes to learning how to do things, and I mean pretty much anything that holds my interest long enough to become competent at it well... that's how I live.

I don't speak with Hubris about how awesome I am when I do talk about myself... I'm just saying it like it is. I realize that I shouldn't talk about it as much as I do though.

I actually really loved this article. I found it on Digg.com.

It was written from a female point of view, but I found myself agreeing with so much of it that I might have wrote it myself at times.

My only suggestion to the author is that maybe times have changed for women... or at least there has been such a noticible shift that the people on her side don't only consist of angry and/or unappreciated women. White men are probably lining up in droves on that side of the fence today.

You're always going to have your rich white men and the sociopathic men who will always get their way to the top, but the top of the pyramid is no longer mono-chromatic, and likely never really was since I was born.

The top of the pyramid today is also just as Unisexual as Ally McBeal's bathroom at work.

We're all on the bottom, ladies.

Hold on to some fallacy belief that the War on Men will somehow liberate you and you'll be showered with all the attention and admiration that you've ever deserved in your life if that what gets you out of bed, but IMO it's all bullshit.

The women who are on top are not a single bit different than the men who are on top. They don't give one single more shit about you than they do me. We are nothing more than numbers to all of them.

Sorry, but Feminism and Sexism is all a bullshit tool they use to keep us strangely awkward around each other after college and binge drinking.... yanno... when you got your first important job and you have to dress nice and pretend that you don't go out 4 nights a week to drink and party. Now we got to be all serious around each other because of HR and Nationally Proclaimed Propriety.

Why are you and me giving each other attitude about anything at all. You work your ass off, I work my ass off. You make shit, I make shit. You dream for more, I dream for more.

Start a thread about your visit to some strange, unknown little corner of the real actual 'verse that is so very far from YOU and YOUR life (of course, you'd have to actually make said visit first...) and tell us what you discovered about the unfamiliar people there and what they need and how they live and what you feel about that and how what was previously a predictable future for you might shift as you realize that different paths are open that you never saw before ...

Or, you could just continue to plaster RWED with more about your same old paid-off house and same old lost job and same old crappy income and same old [many other issues] expressed thru the same old tired reposts of music videos and drunken rants... yada yada yada....

...Your idea about one of us going on a sort of self-realization journey is intriguing though. It's been a long time since we had one of those. I think the last time we had something even close to that were some of those posts by Niki about her trip to help clean up the Gulf after Deep Horizon, and then her experiences in Afghanistan. And I'm not sure those were so much self-realization as just some really cool trips and life experiences.

Introspection... Could be a good thing. Provided it's not me doing it of course. Unless you all like terrifying chalk drawings and bad acid trips.

I object to Lisbeth Salander being referred to a sociopath when she was not at all sociopathic. She was violent and revengeful, and was cautious with outward display of emotions. But she had basically suffered long term institutionalised abuse as a child. As an adult her mission was to subvert the systems which had enabled her abuse, and which continued to enable it her adulthood. Hence she was raped and brutalised by the man who had been given financial control over her.

Her's was a righteous anger which targeted abusers, and which aimed to prevent injustice and abuse. So no, I don;t agree with the article on that point.

I do agree that common behaviours that are rewarded in workplaces, self interest, inflated egos, being highly competetive and undermining others have been associated with male behaviours, but I don't think they are exclusively male. I'm not sure that they are sociopathic either, I think Byte is correct in objecting to the way pop culture has distorted this term. I do agree that women increasingly engage in these more aggressive behaviours in order to succeed in workplaces which demand them.

I'd say traditionally women's bad behaviours, for want of a better term, tended to involve covert means of getting their own way - manipulation, undermining, gossiping and this is probably changing as women increasingly have other means to exert power.

War on Men - do you mean the attempts at achieving equal status in society. I know that some men struggle with this, it would be nice and cosy if women could continue to 'know their place' and accept it, if they could be there to basically satisfy males needs for sex, nurture and comfort, but as Mal$4P says, it aint all about you, buddy. I've long observed how you see women's needs are less than your own. Which is why you want some 20 something perky little number to fall sweet on your gummy old self.

Here's me on an alien world.... I have nothing to worry about. I might not be able to financially help other people I care about, but there's no reason I can't give the gift of free time.

Nope... that's my own real world, and I don't make those efforts that I should.

I don't have to go far to find some awesome subtext for some greatly written stories. The only reason it hasn't been novelized is because I'm an extremely shitty writer, apparently. If I can't keep a few RWEDers reading, there's no way my writing would ever be a bestseller.

All that being said, I'm not a performing monkey.

If you've got a question, ask and I will answer candidly to the best of my ability.

I'm either the Sane'st Crazy person who ever lived, or the Craziest Sane person, or somewhere in between.

At the end of the day, I accept that I only care about me. It's true. Hate me for it if you want to, but I won't hate myself for it a single second more.

As mentioned before, my sometimes extreme empathy I believe is not truly empathy. I feel sorry for other people and "do what I can" when it's convenient to make myself feel good about myself.

Even in my charity I'm self-serving.

Whichever of us isn't guilty of the same thing, throw the first stone......
