American education system, I fucking hate you!!

Ok, so if you've been paying ANY attention you know my kid's gots problems...

Specifically what I'm talking about today is being Dyspraxic with neuro-motor delay. Her co-ordination and balance are about HALF of a "normal" kids is. STILL can't ride a normal bike and she's 12. She has an adult trike she CAN ride. She MAY grow out of it and she may not. Most DON'T.

My problem is that every year in gym they make her run the mile, which is very tiring for her to do all at once, but I let her do it one time just to see if she's getting any better. Unfortunately, she has never "made time" and probably never will, so they try to make her re-run it every year. Twice I got lucky and school was called off, and I called her off school a couple times as well.

This is her last year at the school, and her last time being bullied by this particular idiot. I have talked to him, sent him printed information, and he knows she's been diagnosed. I know a LOT of people are just going to say "eh, it's just a mile, she'll live", but from BOTH or our perspectives it IS bullying because she is never going to pass this test, and how would you feel if someone tied concrete blocks to you and told you to run, but didn't to everyone else??? It really is the same damn thing.

I want to send a message, but I'm having a hard time coming up with a solution that DOESN'T involve a tire iron and Tonya Hardings' ex-boyfriend. Logic does tend to fail you where your kids are concerned....

Local news is out. After they sent a crew to my kids' classroom to be a shill for Mooshelle Obama's physical fitness obsession (by the way I know there is a girl that is already anorexic that was in her class when this happened) I called them out on their shit.

Social media out too, since this is about as "social" as I get... and don't expect the locals to do a THING, they don't get it either. "Whaddaya mean, She DON'T PLAY SPORTS?????" That's Un'Merican!

Should I just call her off again? Like Stoik says "Unreasonable people cannot be reasoned with...

Not familiar with this, or causes, or results of dyspraxia.
Do you feel this is the entirety of her inability to run? Often motor controls become reflexive, learned through repetition. Do you work her weakness more, of let her avoid it? Does she fall down when running, or just not get a rhythm?
I have helped people with marathons, improving more than they ever hoped, and with some medical issues, but I don't understand this well enough yet.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I say call her off.

OTOH are there things she can do at home that will give her a basic level of fitness that don't involve things she doesn't do well (like run)? Squats, hopping, that kind of thing.

SAGAN: We are releasing vast quantities of carbon dioxide, increasing the greenhouse effect. It may not take much to destabilize the Earth's climate, to convert this heaven, our only home in the cosmos, into a kind of hell.

Her muscles don't work in coordinated patterns for long periods, and they don't coordinate with breathing and possibly other systems such as sweating.
She gets "side-stiches" usually within a minute or two. We've tried pattern modulation where you put your foot DOWN when you breathe out, but it doesn't work for us. Part of the problem IS people thinking if you keep at it she'll get better. The neurons aren't just going to work better or multiply one day. I never did, and she has it worse than I do. I also overheat very quickly. My mother doesn't sweat at all. My grandmother gets dizzy just LOOKING at mountains, she has such a bad sense of balance. Bad DNA all around...

My father insisted on me jogging and riding bikes for hours even though I could never keep up, and I believe that's why my knees and ankles are so bad NOW, because if you can't coordinate movement, you end up just damaging joints.

Movement starts in the brain, and if the brain doesn't have the wiring, you no move.

Ps. She does take the dog for a walk every day (except when it's very very cold). We tried sports, but she can't keep up.

PSS. I was very good at golf, and could hit farther then the boys and with better accuracy. But...GOLF. Bleh.

DEVERSE

Hey, Ive been in a firefight before! Well, I was in a fire. Actually, I was fired from a fry-cook opportunity.

Since its her last year at the school I'd say just keep her home for the day and do something fun together. It isn't worth the effort or time to try and educate some nit wit who can't be educated.

Oh let the sun beat down upon my face;
With stars to fill my dream;
I am a traveler of both time and space;
To be where I have been

Yeah, but... I look at her and I wonder how many there are out there that don't have anyone to stand up for them, and I wonder if it'll be the same for HER kids.

Can't make a difference if you don't try.... Anyone got a spare tire iron???
No?

Thanks anyway.
