Just wondering how many of you know someone with severe injuries/paralyzing injuries from riding on a motorcycle (and crashing, duh)?

I know three, one paralyzed from the waist down for the last 53 years, one with traumatic brain injuries and in a nursing home for 25 years, and one with a knee replacement from 40 years ago. Never mind the half dozen with various road rash injuries...

Just curious...

I think two wheel bikes should be gradually phased out, and maybe not covered by insurance anymore. Seems like all they are good for is churning meat... Sad, how much they have affected people's lives.

good to hear you are still trying to stifle the freedoms and rights of others. No choice of transportation, no choice of free commerce for insurance companies or people wanting to purchase their policies. Dictating that others must consume 5 times as much fuel. At least you are being consistent.

I have known motorcycle riders. Unfortunately, some of them wore helmets.

A friend of my cousin was on a residential street, bird flew into him, got caught under the helmet, he lost direction and got hit by oncoming truck. He was wearing a helmet and died. (WI)

A great friend hit a pole which split his helmet in half. He was wearing a helmet and died. (TN)

A friend and the guy who was driving her were launched off an overpass and onto traffic below. He landed on top of a car. She hit the top of a car, then fell to the ground and under a Camaro. Her entire body slipped under the car, but not the helmet. The car behind the Camaro saw it all and stopped behind, waiting for her to come out. The Camaro didn't know anybody was under and gradually pulled thru the lanes to the shoulder, 1/4 mile after impact. Her fingernails were all ripped off, stuck in the chin strap trying to get the helmet released so she could get past the rear axle. She could only be identified from her ankle tattoo. She was the most charming woman in our platoon. She was wearing a helmet and died. (CA)

I know many riders who've had mishaps, but since they were not wearing helmets, they walked away.

I went for a skid on the Interstate, and lost all of the thick caloused skin covering my kneecaps. If I'd had a helmet on, I'd have been dead or maybe paralyzed.

Not that you've ever been accused of reading and comprehending, but I said TWO WHEEL BIKES.

I'm all for trikes, which are negligible in the difference of fuel of two wheelers and are FAR safer. What I'm talking about is saving lives and has NOTHING TO DO WITH HELMETS. Wear a helmet, don't wear a helmet, that's on you. It's clear they can help in many cases, just like seat belts can kill you or save you...in many cases.

I think insurance companies should take some blame for covering something that they know has a much higher likelihood of death than other forms of transportation. I think they enable bad choices.

Thank you for proving my point about all the horrid deaths, though.

I love motorcycles. My only crashes have been on off-road bikes.

Road riding is far more dangerous. You really have to stay alert. That doesn't stop me, though. I don't personally know anyone who's been killed on a bike.

That's part of the problem, everyone on cell phones and meth and drunk...

Along with the Asperger's, hubby has a three second cognitive processing delay...like a sensory overload thing. He doesn't know that he's hitting something until it's too late to stop. His dumbass family kept pushing and pushing for him to get a bike, and on the first ride out to a gas station, he was trying to stop, hit a curb, fell over, and really bruised his ribs.

Not to mention, he has a tendency to go into autopilot when he drives, and you have to be constantly looking ahead and processing ahead of you.
I was lucky he didn't have time to ride for a while after he broke his foot last year, and it gave him time to reconsider, and he got rid of it. I would like to get him on a trike and try again, eventually.

I grew up on four wheelers and motorcycles, and hubby didn't, and I think that makes a difference. Mom plopped me on a moped when I turned 14 and I drove that EVERYWHERE (now you have to wait until you are 16 and have a license). I wiped out on it a couple times, but was lucky I hit grass and sand. I was ok, but I now realize I didn't have any business being on one at 14, and I think mom was trying to bump me off, lol. My brother wrecked a moped a few years prior to that and messed up his leg big time (still has problems with it and he's 43)...I can't imagine why she thought it was a good idea to give me one..

How to tell wen a motorsycle rider duznt need a helmet: He iznt wearing wun.

There haz to be sumthing rong with your brain to beleev motorsyclez are safe. Unfortunately, its wun uv the many bits uv bad software our sosiety puts into peeplz hedz, so most uv us hav this problem.

Watch sum summer episodez uv Car Crashez Time on Youtube. Therez alwayz a section with sycle aksidents. You can see after a wile that they cant even react to stuff that woud be eazy for a car to avoid - they either wipe out or crash into cars that cut them off wen it shuod hav been a swerve or application uv the brakes.

Rit now, JSF, you are formulating a 'they dont know how to ride' reply. Utter balderdash, same az your dummass 'helmets kill' fablez.

No, I'm not bitter frum loozing sumwun. I just hav a deep respect for the lawz uv fiziks.

Herez the latest episode, but sum earlier wunz hav better motorsycle crashez:

A cousin of some type (it's hard to tell in old-world families) lost part of her brain, the use of her left arm, and her right leg below the knee. Her boyfriend, who was driving, was killed. The accident happened at night, as they were passing a semi and the semi pulled left. She tumbled and slid at high velocity which somewhat ripped her left arm off; a road sign put up with angle iron posts took her lower right leg off.

Trump is not the problem. He set himself against the Deep State's agenda. And the Deep State's been heading for WWIII for years.
As for you, you're just a Deep State useful idiot, furthering its agenda. So I hope you enjoy cesium in your coffee. You've earned it.

Reckless driving can kill in any vehicle, not specific to any type.
Playing with semis is ultra dumb, not "celebrating freedom". Even vans full of families get squashed by semis.

I think there were a lot of extenuating circumstances. The expressway runs at full speed but only has 2 lanes. If you want to pass - and there's nothing intrinsically reckless about passing - you need to be in the lane to the left. And semis don't always have good vision along the side of the rig. And it was at night.

I chalk it up to wrong place/ wrong time. Nobody was doing anything they hadn't done multiple times before. A few seconds in either direction and everyone would have been safe.

Now the guy I saw cruising down the freeway standing straight up, and I do mean STRAIGHT UP, on his pegs ... wtf was that about? Maybe somebody can tell me.

Anyway, what I personally find dangerous about motorcycles, and mostly motorcycles at high speeds, is that if something goes wrong, you've got no protection. It's just you hitting the road.

That second crash in the video was like what happened to me with the semi, except the other direction. By the time I swerved left, he swerved back and smack. I can't imagine how fucked I would be if that happened on a motorcycle, helmet or no. o.O

I think that if you get in an accident once while either drunk or texting or on a cell phone that you should automatically lose your license for 6 months and your insurance premiums should see at least a 25% boost for 5 years. If it happens twice, you lose your license for 5 years and your insurance doubles for the rest of your life.

There should also be severe jail time penalties if somebody is caught driving a car when their license has been suspended for any of these reasons. Also, any deaths due to these activities should be classified as felony murder.

This would make life very tough for a few individuals who didn't take the new laws seriously, but I think you'd eliminate nearly 100% of the accidents due to them in a quick amount of time once word spread.

Not really hitting as much as scraping, and rolling at speed is even worse.

Defensive driving is not the art form that it should be, nor used to be. It should be much more universally practiced, but it is not an app to play on your handheld while driving.

On streets, highways, intersections, defensive driving can prevent most predictable incidents - and a motorcycle is more maneuverable than almost any other vehicle. But in the northwoods, the most common news stories about motorcyclists are encounter vs. deer or vs. bear. The biker almost never wins. Having a Harley helps keep the wildlife off your fairing, but wildlife has different priorities.

Had a mild lay down in town once, only skinned a knee. Bartender at a restaurant I worked at died though. He use to like to race home from work on our main street, bit of a daredevil. Didn't have a helmet, crashed into a parked car. People who visited him in the hospital before he died... their description of how big his head had swelled, "twice normal size"... can't imagine anyone ever not wearing a helmet or seat belt. Dumbfux.

Driving yourself into a parked car at speed?
That is not a helmet parable, that is Darwinism at work, on display.

Starts with surrounding yourself with metal. Sins you are not omnisient, there are many situationz in wich you will crash. You are not the only idiot on the road.

A common misconseption. Being able to turn within a 10 ft radius at 2 mph makes no differens at 20+mph. A motorsyclist haz to ajust the sentr uv gravity befor he can turn and deselerating requirez sum activ compensation. The faster youre going the longer distans that 1/5 second equalz. Car driverz can imediately turn the weel or stomp the brake pedal or both.

The daredevil in me lost hiz voting previlij wen I wuz 17. I wuz on a bisycle and crashed kuz the chain went past the last sproket wen I shifted and started to pedal hard. That cauzed my foot to fly off the pedal and flail into the front spokes, so wen it rotated around to the fork, the bike flipped and I skidded on my face befor tumbling. All this at less than 10 mph. Just a misajusted set screw & there I wuz with ruined glassez, 2 cracked teeth, scrapped up fase, armz and back. And I had to carry my bike home.

My 1st thot wuz 'lucky I wuznt going very fast!'

That's assuming that just because somebody is a cop that they know what they're doing.

I'm actually surprised at the tone of the article. I figured it was going to be another hit piece against trump for not stopping the entire motorcade to make sure the cop was alright. I especially thought that was going to come up when I saw that the cop had a "black" elbow in the pic.

Has the MSM gotten so good at this that they can say all of that without even saying it?

Gerard Butler is doing well after he was reportedly injured in a motorcycle

The 47-year-old Geostorm actor crashed the bike after being run off the
road by a car, TMZ reports. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he
was treated for minor cuts and bruises, but suffered no broken bones.

I'm not sure I want to go that fast in an airplane.
