DNC sues Russia, WikiLeaks, Trump campaign associates, alleging conspiracy

The Democratic National Committee has filed a lawsuit against the Russian government, WikiLeaks and the Trump campaign, and its associates, arguing that the parties conspired to influence the 2016 presidential campaign in a way that damaged the Democratic Party.

The complaint, filed Friday in federal court in Manhattan, claims millions of dollars in damages, alleges violations of everything from conspiracy to violations of federal copyright laws and the Trade Secrets Act. One of the most notable things about the complaint is the sheer number of defendants — the 66-page complaint lists WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, Donald Trump, Jr., former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, Roger Stone, Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, former campaign worker George Papadopoulos, former campaign associate Rick Gates and "John Does 1-10," among others.

In the months ahead of the election, WikiLeaks released nearly 20,000 internal DNC emails, many of them related to Hillary Clinton. WikiLeaks later released thousands of emails from John Podesta, Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign chairman.

"During the 2016 presidential campaign, Russia launched an all-out assault on our democracy, and it found a willing and active partner in Donald Trump's campaign," DNC chairman Tom Perez said in a statement. "This constituted an act of unprecedented treachery: the campaign of a nominee for President of the United States in league with a hostile foreign power to bolster its own chance to win the presidency."

The DNC complaint alleges, in a nutshell, that Russian hackers' attempts, combined with Trump associates' interactions with Russian officials, amounts to a massive conspiracy to alter the results of the 2016 election cycle.

This lawsuit lets the genie out of the bottle, and it's not necessarily a good thing for the DNC ...

WikiLeaks To Countersue Democrats; "Discovery Is Going To Be Amazing Fun"

WikiLeaks has hit back against a multimillion-dollar lawsuit filed by the Democratic National Committee (DNC), announcing over Twitter that they are seeking donations for a counter-suit, noting "We've never lost a publishing case and discovery is going to be amazing fun," along with a link which people can use to donate to the organization.

Hours after the Washington Post broke the news of the lawsuit, President Trump tweeted "Just heard the Campaign was sued by the Obstructionist Democrats. This can be good news in that we will now counter for the DNC server that they refused to give to the FBI," referring to the DNC email breach. Trump also mentioned "the Debbie Wasserman Schultz Servers and Documents held by the Pakistani mystery man and Clinton Emails."

Indeed it is. This wasn't a very smart move. I guaranty that Clinton wasn't behind this, and if she was consulted beforehand they dismissed any objections she had and went along with it anyway.

She better hope whatever spiderhole she hunkers down in is deeper and harder to find than the one Saddam was found in.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Well, this takes the venue of the fight out of Congress, where they politely slap each other's faces with gloves, and into the knock-down drag-out arena of civil lawsuits.

I think the DNC is hoping that this will generate more outrage from stupid liberals, who will once again be prodded with the THEY'RE ALL AGAINST ME! meme that Hillary still whines about, but honestly? It's like the cbs video said: People want to hear about real stuff, bread and butter stuff, not stupid paranoid whining about RUSSIA!!!

And like you said: Who's their candidate? They should have run Bernie last time, he probably would have won. Why aren't they running on anything real, with a decent candidate? Don't they have anyone in their party who isn't completely corrupt?

Changing Presidents from a Trump to a Bernie will not fix what is wrong.

Most observers acknowledge that American democracy is in a pretty bad way.

The sheer number of hurdles that reform legislation must pass through, from filibusters to holds to committee votes, have turned the federal government into a vetocracy that stands paralyzed and incapable of adapting in the face of new challenges. Gerrymandering, nonproportional representation in Congress, and the Electoral College lead to a representative government that isn’t very representative at all.

Polarization — particularly negative polarization rooted more in hatred of the other party’s members than loyalty to one’s own party — makes compromise and bipartisanship harder to achieve with each passing year.

Until 2015, these problems were mounting but largely faceless. Donald Trump gave them a human form. He illustrates the US’s susceptibility to demagoguery and to the influence of billionaires seeking to deregulate their own businesses and cut their own taxes.

He shows how America’s thermostatic electorate, constantly responding to one party’s electoral success with a dramatic swing to the other side, can undermine democratic responsiveness by catapulting a party with a deeply unpopular agenda into office.

Rank and file Democrats should be suing the DNC. For fraud, stupidity, abuse, abject failure, criminal behavior, etc.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

This will be interesting to watch. Not only is wikileaks ready to go digging with a legal shovel, Trump claims to be ready as well.

The DNC chair acknowledged that the DNC is nearly bankrupt, it doesn't have the funds to support the cost of the lawsuit. This may be the DNC hoping to drum up just enough money to support the legal process in the hopes of hitting the jackpot at the end. It's like going to Vegas on gifted money as an income strategy, because you've been turned down by the banks, your relatives, and every potential employer, and panhandling was a bust.

It looks like a desperation move.

So anyway ... anyone up for a rational, fact-based, and civil discussion about the topic?

DNC has been bankrupt of morals, ethics, ideals, and ideas for decades. Now Karma has visited their finances.

I see that even tho SECOND spends ENDLESS bits whining about Trump, he NOW contends that Presidents don't matter. Doesn't he notice the logical contradiction between the two positions? Obviously not.

In the meantime, I'm really looking forward to this battle of the lawsuits: It should be very interesting!
