The last remaining Panera Cares location in Boston will close permanently Friday
Panera released a statement saying the donation-based model was not viable
The first Panera Cares cafe offering meals at a suggested price opened in Clayton, Missouri, in 2010
At the program's peak there were five locations in Chicago; Dearborn, Michigan; Portland, Oregon; and Boston - but all eventually closed

Though the stores were intended to be self-sufficient, the company revealed in 2013 that Panera Cares stores made 70 to 80 percent of the revenue that traditional stores did.

Possibly not the people who you think are responsible... I'm not sure exactly what you're saying.

Quote:

Luxembourg-based investment firm JAB Holding Co, which bought Panera in 2017, said in a statement: 'Despite our commitment to this mission, it’s become clear that continued operation of the Boston Panera Cares is no longer viable.

Blame it on company mergers and the DOW Jones.

Let me sum it up for you. There was ZERO commitment to this mission on the part of JAB Holding Co., who made it a number one priority to shut this operation down, and only finally pulled the trigger the second it felt that it waited long enough to say "Hey! We tried! Promise! We're sorry. :("

Of course a free to play cafe is not good for the shareholders.

It's a paradox. The core problem with humanity is it's mental deficiencies. And at the same time, our eccentricities are almost necessary for richness of existence.

I've been thinking lately that if we could whittle down our mental process errors to something like 3 percent MAYBE we could get somewhere as a species and still retain jest enough diversity to keep it interesting. Then again, look what happened to the Asgard on SG-1. They tried so hard they ended up frying their own DNA.

I dunno, I don't really get the point of ANYTHING, lately. You know when River was walking through the ship and peeking at the thoughts of the crew and Mal thought "None of it means a damn thing"??
That's me, 110 percent.

As my kid says... "Mom, the point is to just get through another day best you can."
She's a damn smart cookie.

Maybe we did agree then. For some reason I thought you might have been saying that the stores closed because people were taking advantage and not paying enough money for the food. I wasn't sure though.

Sure. That's been me for quite a while now.

The secret is to just enjoy it. It doesn't have to be a bad thing. One day you might even be able to relax and sit back and see the humor in all of it.

I hope you do. You're way too angry.

I've got my days, sure, but you have to admit that I'm a lot better than I used to be.

Good advice, that.
