Subgroups poll as one might expect with African Americans strongly in favor (73%), democrats almost in favor (47%), and very few republicans in favor (5%). But the all important independents have only a small faction in favor (32%).

Reparations: A July 2018 survey -01 from the left-leaning Data for Progress found that 26 percent of Americans supported some kind of compensation or cash benefits for the descendants of slaves. A May 2016 Marist survey -02 also found that 26 percent of Americans said the U.S. should pay reparations as “a way to make up for the harm caused by slavery and other forms of racial discrimination.”

A Fox News poll in April -01 found that 60 percent of Americans oppose paying cash reparations to descendants of slaves, while just 32 percent support it. A Rasmussen poll in the same month -02 found that just 21 percent of likely voters think taxpayers should pay reparations to black Americans who can prove they are descended from slaves.

Most democratic candidates are squishy on the subject of reparations, saying, in effect, they support studying the idea, with the study topic ranging from 'if' to 'how and when'.

That puts them in a positive light with the vast majority of African Americans, and a 47% group of democrats; but far out of step with most Americans.

I'll just keep working my near minimum wage jobs and stay under the 10% federal tax and we'll just let the middle class foot the bill for it just like we do everything else.
