I don't know how true that is. You don't have to go back too far in time to see the parties constantly flip flopping on anything that isn't about abortion or guns.

In any case, neither of them really want it to happen or it would have already. In the decades upon decades that this has remained a problem there have been periods of a filibuster proof majority and they don't even bring the subject up at all when that happens. Either one of the solutions.

Why only number 2? Doing only one of these things doesn't solve the problem. People aren't going to stop coming here if we set up a welfare state for them and treat illegals better than we do our own citizens.

To completely disincentivize any further border crossings, we need to let the world know that there is NOTHING here for them or even their children.

You don't need any border then, physical or otherwise. You don't even need to hire any rent-a-cops to patrol. No more kids in cages... At least not American cages that were made in China.
