I've edited this post since I've verified that although I don't know what it is, I know that it's not a scam.

I was mailed a tax refund check today that looks to be legitimate and it was enclosed in a legitimate looking envelope.

There was no enclosed documentation with it, and there is no MEMO explaining what it's for.

I watch a LOT of stuff about scams. Mostly tech based scams directed to the elderly who have very little knowledge of how our modern society works and are the most likely demographic to have a few screws loose, making it easier for these scammers to run their $20 Billion a year industry.

I never really pay any attention to the check scams, although I vaguely knew that they were a thing. I thought that this might be one of them yesterday, but that appears not to be the case.

Fake Check Scam a multi-Billion industry.

I'd never have fallen for this and sent money to somebody after a fake check bounced, and there's no way that these scammers would use a government check in this particular scam.

There probably isn't a way that a fake check scammer could get details to get into your account with a fake check, but I'm sure if they're is they will figure out how to do it.

It's really a shame that the Legacy Media doesn't talk about this every single day. The demographic most likely to be scammed is also the demographic most likely to ingest a lot of news every day.

They really should have a "Scam Alert" segment every night during prime time hours on all 24/7 news networks. Even if they end up repeating themselves a lot, it would be good to continually drive this point home to the people who are most likely to be conned and lose everything they've ever worked for.

There are a lot of ways a check from the Treasury can be verified as legit, and claims that anybody outside of the treasury can't duplicate them.

They use watermarks. They make lines that aren't actually lines but are made up of very small letters that can be made out with a magnifying glass. There is ink used that if held under a black light will show more watermarks that are not visible in regular light.

Most interestingly to me though is that the seal stamped toward the upper right of the check in black ink will bleed red ink if you put water on it.

Along with all of those security features, you can also go direct to the Treasury website and after filling out a few fields of non-personal data from the check you can verify whether the check was issued from them or not. They won't tell you to who or what address. It's just a VALID or NOT VALID answer.

Always be wary of scams.

Free money usually ain't free.

Give me liberty or just come shoot me in my house. I'm so over this ridiculous reality.
