I just found a really great forum discussing all aspects of the USS Liberty. Here's the link in case anyone is interested.

http://www.usslibertyinquiry.com/forums/index.php?

After browsing the site, I found a 3rd perspective I hadn't heard before. Thus far, I've only heard #1 and #3. There are "moderates" who fall in the #2 camp.

1. Attack on the USS Liberty was an honest mistake with very limited damage. No one should be accountable for friendly fire.
2. Attack on the USS Liberty was a grievous mistake with moderate damage. It was reckless action for which people should be held accountable.
3. Attack on the USS Liberty was premeditated and intentional attempt to sink the ship and murder the crew. It was a war crime.

Well, the RWE regulars seem to have no interest in this discussion. So I'm gonna hang out over the other forum. I'll still check this one in case, but it looks like it's on the way out the door.

FYI. I thought you might like to know you have a chance to win $10,000.

The Liberty Veterans Association offers a $10,000 reward to anyone who can establish the truth of A. Jay Cristol's claim:

"After ten official US investigations (including five congressional investigations), there was never any evidence that the attack was made with knowledge that the target was a US ship."

Of course, see the website for contest rules and details.

Yeah, I know about that. I’ve been to that forum long time before you even knew existed. And if anyone could answer that question to the satisfaction of ussliberty.com, someone would have probably done it long before I could have gotten to it.

Nothing is more unpredictable than the mob, nothing more obscure than public opinion, nothing more deceptive than the whole political system.

GROSSEN

The attack on the U.S.S. Liberty was deliberate on BOTH sides. The navy was calling for air support to help them and president Johnson himself ordered the fighters to be recalled, his exact quote was "I want that god damn ship going to the bottom."

I advise all to check out this movie Terrorstorm by Alex Jones, free on google video. He talks about the history of governments killing their own people or allowing their own people to be killed for excuses to get into wars or other propaganda reasons. All of his sources are credible newspaper articles and government documents:
