I sit and read, or listen, to whining every day it seems. From one extreme to the other, people are up in arms about something. Only, they aren't up in arms, they're just up.

Frem and I don't always agree on things, but one thing that the two of us will always, I think, agree on is this;

If you see something that's wrong, don't wring your damn hands, or lay a hand on your forehead and bemoan the state of the world today.

GET OFF YOUR @$$ AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

Bitching and whining and moaning change NOTHING! Actions DO! That is a proven fact.

I've seen politiians outed from office because they weren't doing their jobs, or because they were corrupt, or because they just flat out lied. I've seen it done, and I've helped do it.

Sitting in front of a computer going woe is me won't fix the problems. Actions sometimes can. Get out and start making noise! Make people aware of the problem, and present solutions!

And for GOd's sake, stay away from wacko nutjob bullshit that will automatically make people look at you like you need a rubber room.

You don't like how Bush handled Katrina's aftermath, then say that. Point to how badly the whole thing was done, if that's how you feel.
Telling people that it's Bush's fault the damn hurricane hit the gulf just gets you laughed at. It's stupid.

Find the proof of what you see being done, and present it like a rational grown-up to other rational grown-ups. Encourage action on THEIR part, and continue with your own.

But most of all DO SOMETHING. Actions speak louder than words. Much louder than whining and moaning.

BK, one bit imma add here, right ?

You'd be amazed at how EASY it is to put the arm on your LOCAL politicians if you try, call it training or practice if you like, but learning to effectively put the arm on a politico isn't something you can figure out how to do overnight, so if you wanna start bending branches, start local, and be prepared to play rough, cause most local politicos and their flunkies have minor-age kids (immune to serious legal consequence) who'll do stuff like slash your tires, wreck your garden or vandalise your house in retaliation.

Until you can make your local politicians quake in their boots just by showing up, you ain't ready.... and you'll learn a lot of interesting things along the way if you make the right kinda friends.

And be aware of information security at all times, you WILL learn that, and damned quick, and you'll know WHY I don't discuss means and methods, ever.

Or you could just send money - but yanno, having worked for a couple of charities, and seeing just how LITTLE of that dosh filters down from enriching the folks running them to helping anyone at all... I send NO ONE money, ever, unless I know exactly where every penny of it will be spend and agree with that assessment.

If I donate anything, it's equipment, photo and journalism stuff for RAWA, hi tech stuff for the EFF, office supplies for Ron Paul campaign offices, stuff I know will see immediate front line use, instead of winding up in some asshole "finance manager" bank account somewhere in the caymans, you know ?

And no, I DON'T want a receipt, say you found it on the doorstep one morning, if you like, and don't bother dusting it for prints.

Ask some folk in Ann Arbor just how fast those damn reciepts can turn against you when the charity you are supporting gets accused of being a financier of terrorism, oh.. wait, you can't... golly gee, where ever did they go ?

COVER YOUR TRACKS.

I've been bending them for a while, Frem. I just posted this in frustration I guess, at all the people who whine and moan, but don't seem to DO anything, you know?

I know it can be done, I've both seen it, and helped get it done. People, as a rule, aren't stupid. You show them the truth, and prove it, and they'll respond.

Politicos hate noise. It's bad for 'business' so to speak. There's no better way to get their attention, that I know of.

And that's the point I was trying to make. I know you aren't a whiner, btw, I can tell by reading your posts. and I wasn't really directing this at anyone in particular, either.

But I do know that action is what works. Not whining and moaning. You know that too, I've read where you've said it, which is why I mentioned you in the post. Whatever you and I may disagree on, we both believe firmly that if you aren't willing to do something, then I ain't got time to listen to the mouth working, lol.

For the briefest moment, I'd like to defend whining and moaning. Personally I think it's a fine tradition and the first step in getting people, including yourself, to the point where they will DO something about it. I certainly don't like a climate of "put up or shut up". I don't think that's what you're saying, but it's how a lot of people misinterpret such calls to action. Bitching and complaining is most certainly "doing something", and is important for raising awareness - which is often the biggest hurdle in effecting change.

Doin' stuff is good too.

Tell that to babies. Little whiners never do anything for themselves. I say if your hungry, get your own teat, dammit, don't go crying to your momma!

Actually I prefer they stop the whining without all the 'do something' stuff. After all people are usually already aware of the problems and ya'lls solutions usually don't work.

Go to a movie...I hear National Treasure is good.

Yeah...on second thought stay away from National Treasure...go see The Bucket List, that Jack Nicholson is one funny fella.

Which is why you need to KEEP saying that. Causing laughing at the crazy talkers is a good stress relief for the rest of us.

Kinda like an attorney I know who's challenging a ticket for driving the wrong way on a one way street while talking on his cell phone on free speech grounds. Funny...and kinda sad.

Now your the one talking crazy. Proof? If there was proof then we'd all be in trouble.

No. Actions and words may be loud, but silence is deafening. So be silent and DONT DO ANYTHING. Watch TV...look American Gladiators, who will be the NEW American Idol, what will Britney do next, pizza in thirty minutes...

If you really want to make a difference...go buy a car, cut down a tree, dump some oil in a river, beat the hell out of a peace protester (candy falls out if you hit them right). 30 year fixed loans @5.75%, I think somebody needs a new condo.
