Keep the Shiny side up

130 condoms per person. Why so few?

There should be plenty to 'go around':

'...The base only has a skeleton staff through the long winter.

"Since everybody knows everyone, it becomes a little bit uncomfortable," Henriksen told the Southland Times newspaper.

About 125 scientists and staff are stationed at McMurdo base, the largest community in Antarctica, during the winter months when there is constant darkness.

The first sunrise will occur on August 20 and McMurdo's population will start to increase again in September when supply flights resume...'

...So , if those f-ing gummint skeleton scientists burn through a year's supply during the winter darkness , by jumping each other's bones , no worries...There are more supply flights on the way...

So what's the problem? They're scientists, not monks!

It *almost* sounds as if your problem is that they're using condoms in the first place... Hell, do away with the condoms, and let's see how fast we can overpopulate *another* continent!

People are going to screw, like it or not. It's hard-wired into us. You can *ask* that they be celibate while they're down there, but that's probably about as effective as *praying* that they'll be celibate.

Or is your problem the idea that nerds might be getting more nookie than you are? ;)

If your objection is about money, let's just agree to take it out of the funding for the Iraq war. At least the Antarctic station is actually doing some good!

Well , it's not a problem , because , it's not...

It doesn't take a 'scientist' to figure out that folk are 'going to screw', as you so eloquently put it...

Overpopulation is *potentially* an issue on the Antarctic continent , but when was the last time you heard of a childbirth happening at McMurdo ?

Even many scientists have heard about methods of birth control other than condoms , and many are familiar with concepts like 'redundancy' and 'prophylaxis'...

Seems that in the interest of efficiency , many folk would be compelled to 'bring their own'...

But , also in the spirit of efficiency , not everyone is going to 'need' condoms of their own , 'cause not every scientist will be sporting a woodie , presumably...

Next thing you know , there'll be an NSF grant given for the purpose of a suitably-eggheaded research study : "Condom Efficiencies and Sexual Dynamics in a Temporarily-Isolated Extreme Environment"...

This thread has been provided for entertainment purposes only...If you're not finding any amusement in it , maybe You are having the problem...Everyone has to be somewhere , you don't have to be here...

Remember , things don't easily decompose in a deep-freeze...In view of the environmental damage that has already been done to that Continent , you should be much more concerned about how wastes are being disposed there , rather than 'overpopulation'...

If you're going to go all 'Squicko' over it , at least be 'realistic'...

Personally , I hope there's a good incinerator down there...That way , the folk can 'burn rubber' more ways than just the one , and be environmentally responsible to a degree...

Sorry, didn't mean to sound so, uhmmm, "thin-skinned" about it. :)

It had the feeling of one of those rants about "I can't believe we're paying good tax dollars for _________"

I'm with ya, in theory, on the "bring your own" part of it, but what if (and I'm just throwing out a hypothetical here, not making a moral judgment) you're a married scientist on your way down there, and your significant other isn't? MIght bring up a few questions...

Also, as GIs found out early on, condoms have a variety of uses. Keeping your gun clean, for one. ;)

I'm sure once the Administration hears about this, they'll be all about shutting this down and replacing it with faith-based, abstinence-only policies for our scientists...

Any ladyfolk want to volunteer for this research ?

Good to see you , Elvis...You're sorta newish 'round here , right ? Welcome Aboard !
