1) Corporations have more rights & protections than citizens.
2) Lawyers have made us sue-happy, it has aversely affected everything from free speech to children's playgrounds.
3) Computers are being set up to run everything, but are being given shit (but inexpensive) programs to do it with, causing loss of efficiency AND profit, but as long as the idiots at the top are convinced they know something the peeps at the bottom don't, this will continue causing take-overs and downsizing.
4) The educational system is a shambles and cannot guarantee our competitiveness in the world market.
5) The general 'cowboy' attitude that we need to shoot first & ask questions later due to our knee jerk threat assessment of any particular issue that enables tasing someone for asking a question or starting a war over a rumour.
6) Backwards economic priorities; Spending STUPID money on mercs, too little on soldiers, and practically nothing simply feeding poor hungry schoolchildren in the morning.
7) No equal-time policy for TV campaign ads.

Did I cover it?

Oh wait- 8) Joss does not run FOX.

You're assuming facts not in evidence. You're assuming we've an educated populace, and that common folk can both read and write. I've seen plenty of evidence to contradict both these assumptions.

I think your putting your country down a bit,as most of the points could be equally targeted at many other countries in the world.I feel a lot of the problems are not americas fault but are problems that the western world really needs to deal with,we in the west have got it easy compared to some countries like china, zimbabwae or most of africa ,agreed there are problems in america but these are things i asume a change of administration could deal with, and at least we get the option of voting out failing gouvernments.all the best miike

And numero diez- A large system of gangs and a culture that glorifies it to the extent of hero worship.
I find it quite disturbing.

Within my bones this resonates
Boiling blood will circulate
Could you tell me again what you did this for?

“I don’t love you anymore” is all I remember you telling me
Never have I felt so cold
But I've no more blood to bleed
'Cause my heart has been draining into the sea

Still I wait

Hey, hey, hey. Don't be mean. We don't have to be mean because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Eh, it's not putting my country down to recognize some things that need work, but you're right that these problems are not exclusive to the US of A.

sorry dude, diddnt mean to say that it was bad to question your administration, I'm not some kind of fox news fan who says that if you question your gouvernment you are playing into the hands of terrorists, Its just that a lot of people find it easy to see the bad in america and not the good it has done for the world and continues to do. all the best

Agreed, Miike. And the next American administration, no matter who it is, will be better for us & the world.

We (Earth) are a great people- we wish to be...we only lack the light to show the way.

Chris, I think the biggest problem is simply the lack of respect and human rights we offer our children - they are legally and practically worse off than pets, often maltreated, and all too often that maltreatment is glorified by lunatics like Dobson, Esso, Sembler and Lichfield.

This comes back to bite us on the ass, generation after generation, in so many ways there's just not room to describe them all.

It's really simple, we've created a social structure that takes a childs natural, human impulses and at every turn and corner, penalizes them, severely.

Aberrant behavior is sure to result, the more you suppress a human beings basic instincts, the more warped the form in which they finally express themselves, which is why the most rigidly suppressed often are in fact the most twisted.
(religion plays a part, but lets keep it simple)

And then when they cannot reconcile those two sets of imperatives, one from natural instinct (bond, care, feel) and one from social training (hate, exploit, profit) then what do we do ?

We call it a mental disorder and medicate it.

And if THAT doesn't work, send them to what amounts to concentration camps, which all but destroy them as human beings, if they do not kill them outright.
http://www.caica.org/

In essence, we are taking the most beneficial and most humane potential adults and destroying them in favor of the most sociopathic, and this fucked up society that produces all of the problems you mention is the direct and inevitable result.

It's unnatural selection of the worst kind set up to protect and benefit the status quo and those profiting from it.

You can NOT come at this from the top down, because all you will do in that case is simply change who's holding the leash at the top of the pile, which in the end changes nothing.

You wanna change it, you've GOT to jam the gears of the monster-machine that is our social treatment of those not legally and physically able to stand against it.

Everything else is just a side issue, coming from that one root.

Except for the first thing on my list, I'd have to agree with ya.
I guess I'm looking at America as a patient with some diseases...preventative cure is out of the question, preventative action for future ills along with immediate treatment for the existing issues is what we need IMO.

That's part of it too though.

You create sociopaths, they grow up to be Corpies and Lawmakers, and collude to protect themselves at the expense of anyone else - just the way it is.

To a humane person, even the IDEA of some of this kind of behavior would be repulsive - just like slavery, beating your wife, or banging your sister, right ?

Funny that, all the rhetoric for beating kids is exactly the same shit spouted by wife beaters, and yet this is accepted in spite of it's complete and total ludicrousness because our society is actually afraid to elevate children to human being status legally and socially...

Cause then they'd be a THREAT to us.

Think about that one a while - how screwed up things are that we really do, as a general rule, see it that way.

Damn right they're a threat to us, we haven't mentally warped them into darker versions of ourselves yet, they might not play ball, obey the unspoken rules, might even innovate or try to change things...
*shudder*

Chilling thought, innit ?
