Haven't been updating the local situation much, cause, well, ain't been much going on - I doubt anyone needs a blow by blow of five folks who disagree on most everything snarking at each other for an hour, once a week...

We did kill off the health plan though, damned thing was ruinously expensive, and upon inspection didn't cover nothin worth a mention, and being nowhere stated within the paperwork that it was a required perk of the job, we dumped it.

City employees have coverage, but we're comparing plans and prolly gonna put it up for bid once we vet the companys we'll ask for bids from, no sense getting a good bid from a fly by night company.

Got a pretty good deal on a truckload of salt from another local city - apparently in the past they always waited to the very last minute to buy any, and then got royally reamed on the price, of course... just the one truckload as ready stock, but were we interested in such chicanery one could make a profit hoarding and then selling to other local cities dumb enough to wait to the last minute - but neither victim nor victimiser do we intend to be.
(that's for snow, if you southerners are confused)

The local biz owners seem to be taking it well enough, I've been accused of magnificent bastardy and maneuvering them into the whole scheme from the get-go, which isn't how it went, but if a little revisionist history helps em sleep at night and keeps em outta my hair, fine, dandy, even.

The former council is all but gone, only one remains and that cause they cannot get an acceptable offer on their property in a tanked housing market - ain't nobody gonna much miss em, especially after I went to some of the folks who were getting a bit of the graft and pointed out to them, documents in hand, that they'd be gettin that and more shaved off their taxes.

Oh, yeah, IF we can find someone to meet the bid, which ain't half bad for the work, and they get it done on time and within the price (which they damn well better if they take the deal!) then we might not only squeeze by without a millage, we might be able to make a small cut on local property taxes, that'll make folk happy since THAT hasn't happened here since the 50's.

Also got an apology and dinner invite from the mini-mart owners wife, who decided to be a showoff and ply to my sympathies with her own damn fine rendition of an american-style cheeseburger, come to find out she's rather proud of her cooking ability, so I shared her a peek at my own cookbook in exchange for some afghani recipes that looked pretty interesting.

So far things are going almost TOO well, and that always makes me twitchy, I keep lookin for the other shoe to drop, but it ain't yet.

I'll be ready when it happens though, we've worked up some pretty good contingency plans.

It cannot be said enough, those who do not learn from history, are doomed to endlessly repeat it

Sounds like it's working out pretty well.

That's what's botherin me....

It's like watching one of Mal's cockamamie plans go off in detail without a hitch, it just silently screams like something trapped in the universes undercurrent is choking and you start lookin for the penny to drop, you know ?

Real life doesn't work that way, especially not when you started from a bad plan and then swapped in an even worse plan on the fly that you cooked up over the weekend in a rush - then again, Joss pulled it off with The Train Job kinda the same way, didn't he ?

I'm not an optimist, obviously, and it's not that I mind, exactly... it's just that when the forces of darkness ain't hammerin at yer gate, they're usually up to something worse.

But I'll take smooth, sure I will, and all the while keep a damn sharp watch with a fistful of mutable contingency plans wrapped and ready.

I seem to BE, as Mikey mentioned, The Department of "And then what happens?" - so, at least we have one.

And it appears that as long as I am in this seat, willing or not, one would need a damned big lever to dump me out of it - happy people don't revolt, and I didn't aim for happy so much as less pissed off, and seem to have overdone it merely by being not a crook, oh well then...

It's just plain weird, in a whole month that's gone so damned surreal that sometimes I think I've fallen into a parallel universe or something, having had multiple coincidental wish grantings (or stuff I woulda wished for had I thought about it) getting stuck in this office, having a relationship disintigration suddenly turn into a REAL case of either side wanting the other to be happy, and mutual friend/respect not only remaining, but IMPROVING over the course of events, a convenient new domicile with cheap rent smack next door to my current primary contract, and several soon-to-be-expensive mechanical failures that suddenly reversed themselves without comprehensible reason even to a mechanical savant like me....

Things just do NOT normally happen like that, it's never been my experience that they do, so I am feeling a bit out of sorts, like on the receiving end of the universes meanest chain yank.

I'll take it, sure - but I am a suspicious, paranoid sort by virtue of experience, and thus, all this is makin me kinda twitchy, is all.

PS - You're not chasing around behind me with your happymaking superpowers are you ?
*suspicious stare*

Twitchy is good. It'll mean you're ready when the shoe drops.
