Analyzing this data, I've come to some conclusions. The most divisive thread will get the most hits, which has the positive effect of absorbing all of the energy of the trolls, but the negative effect that it lowers the overall level of posts. Counting the posts of the neutrals, such as HK and Chrisisall, one can measure the community involvement in the forum, vs. the ongoing battle contingent. Even the debaters get warweary and fade off. We once had many rivers, and now we have one, sometimes.

Assuming people with river icons to be female, and people with niska icons to be male, going further than that is probably a bad guess, except maybe jayne, or possibly inara or zoe, I'm not sure about kaylees. I think most books are female, and possibly washes, simons seem to be male. I never took the time to icon myself.

I wonder if doing so would effect the response rate, which reminds me, My mom gave me a Jayne Cobb hat for Christmas! It's cool. It makes me look like Jayne. Now I need a town.

Anyway, I digress. Before I get shoved out an airlock, I just thought I'd mention the interesting statistical dynamics. It would seem that traffic would flee to other rooms but it doesn't, it just dies down across the board.

Neutrals probably outnumber combatants as a userbase, maybe around 2:1, but combatants outnumber them in posts, especially when conflict is deliberately invoked. If we graphed collective Karma over time, we would find that the signal overall is very very weak at the moment. I think my biggest bellweather for thing is Chrisisall, who hasn't posted anything in a while.

You're NEVER going to get your town , even a crappy one , as long as you have this much free time that you are not spending more productively...

I hope that when your mother sent you that hat , that she wrote the letter really slowly , knowing that you don't read so fast...

My secret is that I type very fast :)
But you are right. This forum can be a waste of time.
