"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Looks like they're here...

Hackers changed the message on a road sign here in Austin during the early morning hours, so commuters got a bit of a shock.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,484326,00.html

And I swear, I had nothing at all to do with this.

But I wholeheartedly approve.

The news article is obviously just a cover story intended to cover up a real Zombie outbreak. Let's just hope they're slow Zombies, because a Cricket Bat doesn't work to good on the fast ones.

Hackers?! Sure that's what they want you to think. Remember, to kill zombies you have to shot them in the head! I know because I've seen ALL to zombie movies!

I have to ask - is anyone here (besides me, that is) old enough to remember those little oil pots they used to light and set on the road to mark a hazard ?

Saw a great bumper sticker today:

"It's not that I'm old. It's that
your music really does suck!"

And hey, if there's a zombie outbreak, I'm ready. You don't JUST have to shoot them in the head; removing the head works just as well. Machete-fu, anyone?

I visited Austin in 1976, and I saw practically NO zombies there at that time, but I admit, I was only there one night...

Myself, I'm unarmed, I intend to talk to the zombies. I think we can have a summit meeting where we explain our position, and then they eat our brains.

Chris,

You were in Austin, not a lot of zombies there usually.

Yup, now it's a Threadgill's restaurant.

You know how to tell the old Austinites from the newcomers? The old ones walk around saying, "Things ain't been the same since they closed the Armadillo..."

When I was a little kid, I had this deep fascination with the idea of living in a huge department store. So I figure the mall is just the next progression.

We'll preferably need one that isn't too expansive, though. Have to be able to shore up our defenses and all.

and you know - in the late 60's early 70's it was hard to tell the zombies from the regular drug addled UT students....

Armadillo World Headquarters - what a dump - and what a great place.... count me as an Austin oldie...

Actually, since we're on the topic, and I have a zombie story I'm working on, I want input. Best Zombie fiction in any form.

I'm trapped between fantasy and Sci-fi because of the nature of my writers group. I want the editors to give me their input, and so I need to be in both genres. The sci-fi I have at the moment was a strict storyline of a dream. It really freaked me out. I woke up thinking "that's what dawn of the dead should have been." I wrote it down, and then a comptuer virus killer killed my hd, and I lost the story, but it's still in my head because I wrote it down. That always helps

So, please, Zombie recommendations, anyone...

Dream, funny, I just saw an ad for a book entitled Patient Zero by Jonathan Maberry - I have not read it, but the gist seems to be...
Quote:

THE PROBLEM: Terrorists are hell-bent on unleashing a dreadfull bio-weapon that turns ordinary people into flesh-eating zombies.

THE SOLUTION: Joe Ledger, the ultra-secret Department of Military Science, and a helluva a lot of bullets

don't know, sounds pretty formula-matic to me.

I'm not a big fan of the genre but i believe George Romero has the best reputation for making zombie movies...

I was mildly amused by Shaun Of The Dead and the Resident Evil series was ok.

An old movie, Let's Scare Jessica to Death, a 1971 low-budget horror film, directed by John D. Hancock, comes to mind for some reason.

good luck

eta: I liked the movie Omega Man, too..... sort of a pre-I Am Legend film

Both based on the same book, but I thought Omega Man captured some elements that I Am Legend left out, sadly.

Running your own biz in the security industry leads to gawdawful strange hours, in my case.

To borrow an oh-so-eloquent phrase from Boondock Saints (awesome flick, btw)...
"We're sorta like 7-Eleven. We're not always doing business, but we're always open."

I once made a Zombie movie, in which all the zombies were played by Muppets.
