...as does Killifer.

It's nice to see them doing the right thing. They'd have gotten no support or cooperation from career civil service employees of any political persuasion, who know they'd be out the door in a second if they failed to pay their taxes.

The Obama gang doesn't know HOW to vet anyone. Likely because they were never vetted themselves?

CHARLEY ROSE: I don't know what Barack Obama's worldview is.

TOM BROKAW: No, I don't, either.

CR: I don't know how he really sees where China is

TB: We don't know a lot about Barack Obama and the universe of his thinking about foreign policy.

CR: I don't really know. And do we know anything about the people who are advising him?

TB: Yeah, it's an interesting question.

Joe's not in my district, but I'd gladly vote for him over John Lewis.

Joe's paid his lien, and isn't running for W.H. Efficency Czar, but hopefully for Congress. Good for him.

As for Nancy's issues.... the government alleged that just three years after she left a high-powered Treasury post she began to fail to pay unemployment compensation tax for a household employee. And she failed to make the required quarterly payments for a year and half, whereupon a lien for $946.69 was placed on her home.
During that period, Killefer and her husband, an economics professor, had a teenage son and daughter, but she had two nannies and a personal assistant to run her life when she was on the road

Probably not. Did Joe report his income and was just not able to pay the taxes, or did he conceal income?

Do you think Daschle should have been confirmed after failing to list income and gifts received from the companies he would have to regulate?

Nope. I'm glad he pulled his nomination. Frankly, I have a problem with ANYONE who "forgets" to pay over $140,000 in taxes. Seems if you're making enough money and/or getting enough freebies to OWE that much tax on it, then you damned well ought to either (a) know how to do your freaking taxes, (b) pay money to someone smarter than you to do your taxes for you, or (c) both of the above.

I think someones using the rightwing echo chamber of empty heads to sniper political appointments forced on them as part of the deals that got them into office.

And again, I have my suspicions as to who.

Nice to know the dittoheads are useful for something...

Ok, since subtlety is useless on your thick skull, Rappy, lemme be blunt then.

Biden is picking off political apointees forced on them as part of the deals him and Bama cut to get into office - and he's doing it by feeding the right wing press dirt on them and watching the public media lynch the bastards for him.

And he's doin that because these guys are political liabilities, untrustworthy baggage likely to get in the way of him and Bama's plans.

Toldja he was a smart bastard, it cuts loose the deadweight without ever getting his own hands dirty, and gives his administrations opponents something to do so they feel like they're accomplishing something, while keeping them out of his hair while the *real* work is getting done.

He's good - not that I happen to like or agree with the bastard, just that it's nice to have someone competent in office for once, even if they are an evil prick.

Frem, I agree except I don't see where it's Biden. He just seems outwardly so Al Gore-Dan Quayle. Someone is doing it for Obama, but I'm guessing that Obama has this set up with someone who can't be tied back to him. Pitty they could sink Geitner, but I'll give them effort for trying.

But if Daschle, Geithner, et. al. hadn't failed to report income or pay taxes several years ago, there'd be nothing to report. I'm going with the Occam's Razor theory that they just cheated on their taxes back then and got caught out by the scrutiny surrounding confirmation.

edit to add: and audits.

Besides, Geithner still got appointed.

That's a excellent point. Inside job or not, no way in hell it could have been Biden. That's giving Joe far too much credit. He ain't that bright. He just isn't.

Yeah, that's what folks thought of Fox Mulder too.

Y'all watch too much TV and do not read enough.

You're judging a guy on public appearances where he verymuch plays to a veil of obfuscating stupidity which combined with the fact that he's an absolutely terrible speaker, make him look like an idiot, sure.

But idiots do not assemble the massive and mostly successful resume he has - for crying out loud go read up on the man, you will NOT think him a twit after that.

He's tough, smart and compassionate - although he believes government can and should intervene to solve problems it ain't capable of solving (domestic violence, drug use, crime), which is my primary beef against him.

He's also got tons of experience with washington politics both above and below the table, combined with a heavy foreign policy resume without the usual murderous idiocy, and enough common sense to know a bad policy even when it looks good on paper.

Read up on his career history, and it tells a tale of a guy who *wants* to make the world a better, nicer place, which is admirable - but I don't see Government as the proper vehicle for reaching that goal.

Bama, I could take or leave, Biden I would not have voted for because I wouldn't trust him as prez...

But the combination they got is potentially workable, and after the debates and realising that Sarah Palin was an outright INSANE crusader lunatic, and would be one health failure away from the presidency, that combo looked like the only defensive option.

One poison against the other while working on a real cure, and frankly they've done better than expected.

But go on, keep underestimating him, he didn't rack up a resume like THAT in washington by placing NICE, and having few financial backers cause that comes with it's own price, his primary MO is to cripple his opponents by proxy - consider that he's gotten this far, played dirty enough to have succeeded, and yet there's NO freakin evidence of it to hold over his head ?

Basing your judgement on mainstream media soundbite clips instead of doing your homework is a fools game, and frankly, other than Rappy, I figured y'all were smarter than that.

-Frem

EDIT: P.S. - Also I notice that someone has gone round the internet and "cleaned up" any mention whatsoever of his heavy connections with the alphabet soup folks, something else which you oughta take into consideration here as well.

Still can't figure out how he'd subliminally convince Daschle and Geithner - back in 2005 before Obama was even a potential candidate - to cheat on their taxes so he could later use that to try and derail their positions in an Obama cabinet. Or anybody's cabinet, for that matter.

Frem,

I got no TV. Nah, it just comes from personal connections. My mom used to work with his wife. He's a player alright, but I don't see him as the mastermind. I know the groups he belongs to, the things he'd like to see done, and yeah, I agree, govt. isn't the way to do this, I said the same to the Nader people, but they believe too.

I don't doubt that Biden provides Obama with logistics, knowledge and connections in DC, but I think Obama has his own team of operatives to carry out his agenda. I don't think Obama really trusts anyone, which is probably a wise move.

I disagree on Sarah. She was set up, she's really pretty moderate, and she was told to toe the xtian line. She had to reverse a gay marriage stance to take the VP slot. The Couric interview was outright sabotage.

I just meant Biden will be a guy in the back working on a pet project, and not a Dick Cheney bunker overlord. That's what I see. If there's going to be a power takeover from Obama, it's going to come from the Clinton camp, unless it already has, but that's going to be the power struggle.

But clearly, if you go back, unless Biden attacking Obama badly was some sort of foil, Obama already had his own special team, and I strongly suspect that team is outside of the democratic party, that does research for him, etc. I think high among the groups he doesn't trust is the DNC, DLC. CFR, I don't know. He seems to know that he has to play their game, but he doesn't like parts of the plan. I think Biden is on board with the plan.

Oh man, Geeze, *everyone* in D.C. has some dirt, it's just a matter of finding it.

I ain't defending these cretins, in fact i'm quietly laughing up my sleeve as they get cut to ribbons - never said they didn't deserve it, yanno.

I just wish he coulda bagged up Hillary and Rahm too, but that woulda been too obvious, Hill might last a while, but Rahm is gonna shoot himself in the foot hard and often enough to make him a problem, and we'll see how that goes.

Given how ruinous and fucked up our tax nightmare is, I do have sympathy for anyone who scams the rigged game - but that sympathy falls by the wayside the instant you run for public office unless your entire platform is based on cutting the spending and pork those taxes finance.

To dodge that ball and then throw it at others though ?

Feeehhh, NO mercy - not for any of em.
