"As much as I respect what he's doing, really the economy is something he should focus on more than the brackets. "
- Duke University basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski, after Obama snubbed Duke in his Final Four picks.

The U.S. economy WAS on fire under Bush, for 6 years. Until the Democrats took control of Congress. It's been all down hill since then.

All drugs are bad, or just certain ones?

As for "explaining" it... It *sounds* like she was doing coke. Do you need someone to explain to you what that is, or how it works? Try calling the President - the current one, or the one before that. I think they might have an idea how one does coke.

The current one, the previous one, and the one before that, all seem to have their brushes w/ Columbian snow.

My guess is that moderate use of pot might be o.k., if that's what you're into, but I doubt there's much of a health benefit in the use of cocaine and other harder narcotics.

Though I don't not speak from 1st hand experience.

Luckily you Democrats are held to a much lower standard, the Bush twins and Cheney's daughters were savaged by the press whores for much less. The press whores will allow this to blow over quickly.

The "On Fire" Economy -
The Dow closed at 10,587.60 on January 20, 2001, the day GW Bush took office. Eight years later, it closed below 8000 on the day he left office - a net loss of 25%. That's what conservatives call an economic "success".

"In this blog entry I am going to make an exception. As comedian and talk-show host, Bill Maher, pointed out in his 2002 NORML conference address, prominent drug users need to come out of the closet. As with the early gay movement, recreational drug users cannot overcome negative stereotypes when their successful members hide. Maher proceeded to out Harrison Ford and Ted Turner in his speech. While any outing is noteworthy, the most impressive outing I know of is Ashton Kutcher’s 2003 outing of the twin daughters of President George W. Bush, Jenna and Barbara."

The current Acting Director is Edward Jurith; his position ubiquitously is nicknamed the Drug Czar, a term first used in the media by then-Senator Joe Biden in October 1982.

ANTHONYT

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

If I may be forgiven for breaking my type...

"Explain this, muthafuckas! Some dude who knows a gal who's related to the dude who campaigns against drugs might have a tape of the gal doing drugs, which is like totally a 'whoosh in your face, personages I don't like!'

And I'm gonna harp on this, muthafuckas, even though the folks I like do the same fuckin' shit, and even though this would kinda explain WHY a dude might want to campaign against drugs in the first place. Suckas!"

It rather disturbs me when people stride the Earth with blinders and polarized glasses on, looking for anything that might disparage or disgrace people they don't agree with, rather than taking issue and arguing against the actual merits of their political and social policies.

In short, if you have to "Scandalize" your political enemies into defeat, then you must have a very weak position in your arguments.

I might potentially feel differently if the man himself was proven to be an active drug user, since this would at least indicate hypocrisy, something which is not indicated by this 'scandal.'

Thanks for the clarification. I knew I'd heard the "czar" title start being tossed around back in that era. It always bugged me - here were the big bad evil commies, and we were calling OUR guys "czars".

Never heard too much about Jeb's daughter and her drug problems, either. I mean, it was reported, but it wasn't really harped on too much, as I recall.

Kids screw up. Let's hope if this is true, Biden's daughter gets help and puts it behind her. I've known people who did coke once or twice and didn't care for it, and I've known others who would sell their mother for their next high. As with any addiction, it grabs some and seemingly misses others completely.

I don't recall hearing the Bush twins "smoking weed" . All I heard was they were both busted for underage drinking and that Jenna, I think, got caught in bars while being underage , while at U.Texas ( which is kinda amazing, as I'm sure there had to be secret service there, somewhere )

But that's kinda the point. On one hand, the Bush girls were younger at the time they got into trouble, while Biden's 'kid' is 27. Not that I stopped doing stupid things after college, but then my dad was never VP and an outspoken figure in the war on drugs.

And also, the point being that there'll be fas less coverage over this than just 1 event of the Bush girls sneaking into a college bar.

Yes, it's completely unfair. Thank the Librul media & curse the Conservatives like Rush that take it lying down.
Life itself is ultimately unfair, better give up now.

Couple things.

1) I never heard about the Bush girls smoking dope, either. So if they did, it certainly seems to have gone unreported or under-reported.

2) On the drinking thing, there were indeed Secret Service present. The way I heard it explained was that they were under orders from Daddy to NOT get in the girls' way (at least with Jenna, who was busted downtown here in Austin in a little place called Cheers Shot Bar, if memory serves - a place that was FAMOUS for very loose carding rules in the first place). So anyway, my understanding was that the agents were supposed to keep an eye on Jenna and keep her safe, of course, but let her be a kid and a college student, even if that meant screwing up here and there.

Personally, I never thought much of it. I mean, if someone had a picture or a police report of every stupid thing I ever did while growing up, I'd probably still be grounded!

Now, doing coke at 27 might be a li'l different. My bet is we haven't heard the last of this one...

Bit I agree with AnthonyT: What Biden's daughter does (at age 27!) may not be reflective of Biden. At a certain point- oh, say... 15-19... kids stop looking to their parents for morality and direction.
