A man suspected of stealing a plane in Canada and flying erratically across three states was trying to commit suicide, hoping he would be shot down by military fighter planes, a state trooper said Tuesday.

Adam Dylan Leon, 31, was arrested at a convenience store in Ellsinore, Mo., shortly after landing the single-engine, four-seat Cessna on a rural Missouri road Monday night, ending a six-hour flight, police said.

The plane was tracked as a "flight safety issue" and was not believed to be a terrorist threat, Mike Kucharek, spokesman for the North American Aerospace Defence Command, said in a telephone interview from Colorado Springs.

Yup, you've officially gone as batshit at PirateNews.

Let's see... He was attempting to commit suicide by fighter plane - and wasn't allowed to succeed in that mission. Sounds like a terrorist all right! Could be he's just an idiot. And the fact that he was born in Turkey shouldn't lead one to assume he MUST be a terrorist (the old "You know how THEY all are" argument of bigotry); I'm sure there are idiots born all over the world.

Hell, when Mathias Rust pulled almost the exact same stunt in Germany, and flew to Russia and landed in Red Square, they didn't hold him as a "terrorist" - just an idiot kid pulling a stupid stunt. And that was when Russia was "the evil empire"... so what does that say about OUR humanity here in the good ol' U.S. of Fuckin'-A.?

And , they're manufactured by unskilled labor...

More than a few of 'em frequent this very website...

P-N ain't necessarily 'batsh!+'...And nothing about J-T's commentary would make him an idiot...

Red Square , White House Lawn , into America's Heartland through the NORAD screen ; just proves one can go anywhere in a Cessna...

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

Someone ought to tell the military. All that money for stealth aircraft ? Just use a Cessna. It'll come in on the radar but off the threat-radar.

Most lighter aircraft do not give reliable 'skin-paints' to surveillance radars , particularly not since the advent of more carbon-composites .

That is why transponders are required for coordinating with air traffic control...They assign an N-number to a blip generated by ATC display screens...

One has to be really close to an airport with flight-following radar-service (in the airport's 'traffic area') to be seen on airport surveillance radar via a skin paint...

The military already knows this...No cause for alarm...

So instead of spending $2 billion apiece for the B-2 Spirit, we could be buying up fleets of Cessna 172s and using them without transponders?

With that thread title, I had assumed this was another one of PN's paranoid ramblings. Color me surprised.

Like we need more conspiracy nuts.

Shoulda know it wasn't PN, though, since he would have called him a CanadiaJewTurk or something.

Hahaha, keep your Cessna.

You want damn near total radar invisibility use this.

That's a quicksilver GT400 series ultralight, requires neither license nor registration, depending on how strict they wanna be about the FAR103 guidelines.

While they don't *require* anything more than a set of iron cajones to fly what amounts to a powered glider made out of little more than tissue paper, they do require more skill than you would think to fly, since the FAA deliberately set up the requirements to make them unsafe on purpose, so they can use the inevitable crashes to justify their absolute lunacy of fees and red tape for any other class.

Pretty fun if you know what you're doing, however.
There's a plan in the works currently to use one as a spotter for post-disaster recovery and rescue operations, provided we can find one that can be quickly assembled/disassembled and carried in a stepvan.

Related this story to a contact who works in the aviation industry...

His comment ?
"You know your gesture is ultimately pathetic when the rocketjocks of the US freakin air force decide your shitty little plane ain't worth a missile."

I found that all too amusing.
