Y'all mighta noticed I been a bit busier than usual as of late, and as usual cagey with the details - not that an explaination is required, but it pleases me to give one, since it relates to what one might call a "Real World Event" and thus is quite on-topic, eh ?

Bear with me, not tryin to be cryptic, this just requires explaination.
While it might surprise a couple folk, though I kinda doubt it...

Despite my bitter hatred for law enforcement and the alphabet goons, there are uses for em other than harrassing their so called protectees, and when they ACTUALLY DO THEIR JOB, like Marcus Lawson did (1) I can and will support their efforts so far as is possible within the law, it's trickier dealing with some things by the book, but when one has the opportunity to put some very bad people away it seems a shame to waste it.

Thus, yes, on occasion we will back up law enforcement, so long as they play it straight and by the book - any hint of a "witch hunt", clearance-cancel, null-set or softshoe prosecution and we pull up stakes and go, this is quite well understood by all parties involved.

That is why we do not cooperate with the Innocent Images team whatever, cause of those very reasons, and the corruption and mismanagement of those cases in addition with legal developments and new strategies which actually take into account new technologies required a different approach since due to realtime communication you cannot roll up and break a ring over the course of a week, it MUST be simultaneous, and then you MUST keep it quiet for a short time in order to round up any affiliates you might have missed who are outed during initial interrogation.

The Operation Cross Country team hasn't been real public about it so far, cause the inevitable political backlash from well connected predators who can buy off damn near anyone is a threat to any official agency, and attacking them directly is all too often a waste of time since it does the victims little good - like fighting a hydra, you lop off one head (Franklin) and before it hits the ground another one pops up (Abramoff), and at the end of the day you've accomplished nothing.

So what you do, is you attack and wreck the mid-level distribution networks, break the machinery and cut them off from pools of easy victims - so far no one has been willing to go after the foster care system and various charity orgs with their tentacles in it, not since Vachss and his people took on the Fresh Air Fund, anyways... but at least hitting them in their infrastructure is a beginning.

Thing is, there's little glory or prestige in bagging up mid-level distribution and a lot of grunt work - which is anethma to most law enforcement cause frankly most of em don't give a damn about the one value this DOES have - you get the kids back!

That creates a long list of legal and other headaches not present with a high profile bust, cause it's rare that the kingpins actually have any "product" where they can be implicated for it, but the distributors and direct sources, not only do you have to process the bust, you also have a bunch of seriously damaged kids to contend with on top of it - dirty work no one WANTS to do, most of the time.

Top it off with the fact that you have to hit them simultaneously, fast and hard with communication and operational security on both ends, both to cover the law enforcement teams serving the warrants, and to quash the perps distress/alert signals to the rest of the roaches so they don't scatter before you get the whole bagfull, something LEO personnel are usually pretty bad at.

But DONE RIGHT, you tear up freak-feeder infrastructure, cut their lines of profit and information, and you save some of the victims, such as they can ever be saved from a thing like this once involved.

As of yesterday, Operation CC rolled em up on the Ohio-Detroit axis and bagged up about 70 some odd perps, damn near 50 kids currently in protective custody.

WHY they felt the need to arrest all the above-legal-age prostitutes is gonna be a matter for some discussion, since some of them are potential victims, might even be original victims who just happen to be unlucky enough to have been abused long enough to cross the "magic number" and as such are in my opinion VICTIMS, not perps... like I said, some *discussion* along that line is gonna ensue - since processing cases against them is both out of the proper and intended scope of Operation CC and a waste of resources, or in the case of a victim who has simply been unlucky, might well be further victimization at the hands of those supposed to be doin the rescuing.

Anyhow, yeah, *discussion* is gonna ensue...

Still, at least six cells in custody, with near fifty confirmed victims and quite possibly a couple more who should NOT be sitting in the tank facing charges, not that bad a sweep - cause them perps are gonna tell us things, yes they are, no need for the phonebook and hose either, they got a pretty damn good interrogator who knows his shit and he'll get us SOMETHING - whether or not they'll be able to run with it, dunno.

That's all the details I can get away with sharing on a public board, but google some of this stuff, particularly Operation Cross Country and you should find at least something, some media made mention of it, though I doubt it's headline - and one of them UK newsies covered it for sure.

Got work to do though...

(1) This is the guy primarily responsible for the destruction of the Orchid Club, Wonderland Club, and the Landslide, Inc. bust - which destroyed his career and put me on the run for a while from really pissed off billing services who wanted my head for outing their dirty little secret.

You won't find many folk who'll tank their own career in order to do the right thing, but Mister Lawson has my eternal gratitude and respect for what he managed to accomplish before his own superiors stuck the knife in.
