Cars buried in snowdrifs in DC

According to a news snippet I just read, the winter of 2009-2010 is the snowiest on record. With record snowfalls being recorded, and D.C getting more snow than it's gotten since 1899, I'm glad to say that I live in North Carolina. Granted, it's been a cold couple of weeks here...but I'm talking cold for NC, which is not the same thing as cold in the upper mid-atlantic and northeast.

Amazingly, my wife told me that her parents, my in-laws, were about to get on the road...New York. I was stunned when she said it. Their reason for wanting to do an arctic trek? They haven't seen their youngest grandkids in a year. Understandable, but my response was: Well, they won't be able to see them very well from a ditch, now will they?

Thankfully, more thoughtful thinking prevailed and they have decided to postpone their trip. But only by a day. So, it still makes me wonder.

Frankly, I wouldn't be getting on the road to New York for at least a couple of days. Bad things have a habit of happening on their own. And there's no reason to ask for more than fate would hand out to you on its very own.

At COP15 Billary and Obama gave United Nations Corp $100-billion/year in higher taxes in USA, not counting the actual Global Warming Taxes.

This United Nations IMF Bank treaty will pay Al Gore billions of dollars and genocide billions of starving sheeple.

Keep the Shiny side up

Yep. We've been shoveling snow here in Fairfax County for the past week, pretty much. Since the beginning of the double storm on last Friday night we've gotten 30+ inches in my yard. With the December storm and a couple of lighter snows in January, we got close to 60 inches at my house. Quite a bit considering our annual average is 16 inches.

Since snow like this only happens every few years, the local governments just don't have the snow removal equipment somewhere like Buffalo would. We haven't seen a plow in a week. Went up to the main drag through our subdivision and it looked like the Retreat from Moscow. Folks shuffling through the blowing snow clutching bundles of food from the supermarket.

Hey Geezer,

You live in Fairfax? Great! I was wondering if you could answer a question.

My wife and I are planning to move to that area in a month or so.

What are the nice, good, safe (but cheap), areas around there? I've heard Reston or Centreville is ok.

Authorities in King, North Carolina declared a state of emergency which not only prohibited citizens from driving on the snow-packed roads, but also banned the sale alcohol and banned the purchase or possession of firearms outside of their homes.

By declaring a state of emergency, the King City Council and police chief effectively declared martial law and rescinded the Constitutional rights of King’s citizens.

Yes, snowfall in winter disproves global climate change, the way a flash-flood in the Mojave proves that area isn't a desert.

Cheap is gonna be interesting to do. This is a pretty pricy area to rent or buy. A lot depends on where you're gonna be working, as commuting can be a bitch. Folks I worked with liked Reston and Centreville. You might look at the Kingstowne area of Alexandria. It's right on the border with Fairfax and not that far from the Metro and shopping. It's a reasonably new mixed use community with apartments, condos, and single family homes.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Yeah, I can't help but shake my head at supposedly "intelligent" people thinking severe cold weather discounts climate change! They don't seem to grasp two concepts:

1. Climate change means MORE DRASTIC climate, be it rain, snow, heat, drought, or what have you, in many places. We've seen plenty of that the last few years!

1. (ignoring the obvious idiocy of saying lotsa snow means no climate change, like you said about rain in the desert...) The earth becoming warmer puts more moisture into the air, so it rains and snows MORE than normal.

Out here, our extra-heavy-rainy season is just an El Nino year, but it's pathetic to see idjits like PN and Fox Noise touting that heavy snow in the East means there's no global warming/climate change. I can't help wondering: are they really that ignorant, or does it just serve their purposes?

Oh, and PN, once again you forgot "Jewish princess" in your hateful description of Maddow. As I said before: you're slipping, man. When we can't count on YOU to be predictable, what's left???
