Today I found out why that law is on the books, when I got bit by the dog that ate a 200 pound Akita dog last month. It also grabbed my 70-pound Oz Kelpie by the neck and foamed at the mouth so much I had to wash my dog. My dog didn't flinch, run or fight, so the dog attacked me.

The culprit was a 100-pound Boxer, that could easily kill a human. Like a pitbull but 3 times bigger. It has recently had pups, then went psycho with post-partum depression. It was in hunter-killer mode, unlike any dog I'd ever seen. Like a bear charging.

Developed in Germany in the 19th century, Boxers were originally used for dog fighting and to run down and hold large game such as wild boar and bison until the hunter could arrive.

What is the largest boxer dog ever recorded? I found one listed to have one that was 27" at the withers and he weighed 104 pounds.

Boxers are brachycephalic (they have broad, short skulls), and have a square muzzle, mandibular prognathism (an underbite), very strong jaws and a powerful bite ideal for hanging on to large prey.

I backed away slowly but it followed me to the spot where the Akita was killed, then it bit me. Hope I don't have rabies.

No fear, and I don't mind getting bit, but gettin killed would hinder me a bit.

Wasn't packin since THP is waiting months to send my renewal permit. Better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6. Doh! Shotguns ok.

(a) It is a defense to the application of § 39-17-1307 if the possession or carrying was:

(4) Incident to lawful hunting, trapping, fishing, camping, sport shooting or other lawful activity;

(5) By a person possessing a rifle or shotgun while engaged in the lawful protection of livestock from predatory animals;

I did tell the owner of the Akita where to find the culprit, at the towtrucking cartheft junkyard across the street, home of convicted felons burglerizing neighborhood houses lately. He has a rifle loaded and ready for action. He also gave me permission to shoot on his property.

This is the size of the dog that got eaten in my neighborhood

Fortunately, it's against federal law to kill a dog.

Your neighbor could get money, have you discussed that with them? Do you have photographic evidence or an eyewitness to confirm that the boxer killed the akita?

If it's a danger to the public then it's OK to kill it. The law is there so people can't kill or touture dogs for fun.

Boxers are biiig, but minor variations of breed and initial attitudes aside, it's all in how they're raised and treated.

Raven has a pair of massive boxers, who seem to think it's really funny to knock me down and slobber on me, yick, dog slobber is gross!

I can generally chill an aggressive dog, but in the rare cases that don't work, I just encourage them to do the natural thing by taking a right forward stance, sure as shit they'll lock on to the prosthetic leg, at which point it becomes quite easy to hit the quick release and restrain them before they realize their mistake.

If you have a bad 'un roaming the area, and would prefer not to shoot it, go find a park ranger, I know TN has plenty of em, and bribe his ass to get you some of that stuff they use on bears - beleive me, THAT mutt will never bother YOU again.

Yeah, I've known some nice pit bulls too. But by the sound of it, this boxer was raised and trained to be a junkyard guarddog. I kinda believe PN when he calls it vicious.

We have no "proof" which dog killed his dog. No eyewitness, no security video, no fingerprints.

Circumstantial evidence of the boxer grabbing my dog by the neck and foaming at the mouth, then biting me at the spot the Akita was killed and eaten, in an extremely vicious crime scene.

I wanted him to take his dog to UT Vet Hospital for autopsy to ID the killer, but he just wanted to bury it immediately.

I doubt the owners of the boxer can afford to pay $5,000 restitution, since they live in a rotted trailer at a junkyard. "Collection proof".

The key to lawfully shooting this doggie suspect is to lure it to the private property of the victim, then shoot it. I.e. let it chase me while I run for my life. This dog could potentially kill me.

Fed law only applies on fed land, unless your name is Vick.

I could call the county Animal Police, describe the dog that bit me, and throw the dog and owner under the bus in court. Dog would be automatically killed by Big Brother. But where's the fun in that?

BTW I suspect this dog was used for dog fighting, or is treated like a huntin dog (locked in a cage) to make it kill. I pet all the dogs in the neighborhood even when they bark (wagging tail), but this one spooked me bad (no wagging tail).

No single dog should be able to kill a human with the ability to gouge eyes, sacrifice an arm, and alligator roll the pooch's neck to a severing *crack*.
