Okay, I was skeptical of the story at first, I was hoping there would be more to it. I still had a small amount of faith in the president's environmental positions, as well as his desire to not do something impressively stupid (this ought to be fairly unpopular)

But it does check out. Obama appears to be lifting the whaling ban. The numbers that FOX cites on the effects of the reagan era ban are as they say. Even if he puts the official caps down to current levels, which is unlikely, they will use the opportunity to go over them, something which the populations cannot withstand.

It's just the wrong answer, so there has to be a reason, then the fairly obvious hit me, and , it gets worse:

What do these three countries have in common: Iceland, Norway and Japan?

They are first world nations that are not yet part of multinational unions. In fact, they're almost the only independent first world nations remaining. So, Obama is prepared to try to win them over with bribes to finish his world dictatorship. Great.

So this isn't just bad policy, its bad policy made for the chance to make bad policy.

You forget, this is Obama we're talking about. That means that bold refers to having rolled a ball at the gutter lane, not really at the pins so much as you might notice.

"better than the status quo" says the whaling commission, made up of a mix of whalers and regulators, I guess we can guess which one gave the comment, if there's any difference, given who this would be better for, and the use of status quo relying on the mindset of the well intentioned who are predisposed to think of the status quo as bad, whereas in this case status quo is "you will not whale"

Once there is any legit whaling, whalers will be able to fudge,if it's blatantly illegal, then they have to skulk.
