Of the top nineteen (19) banks in the nation, sixteen (16) are already technically insolvent.

If any two of the 16 insolvent banks go under, they will totally wipe out all remaining FDIC insurance funding.

Five large U.S. banks have credit exposure related to their derivatives trading that exceeds their capital, with four in particular - JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, HSBC Bank America and Citibank - taking especially large risks.

Bank of America`s total credit exposure to derivatives was 179 percent of its risk-based capital; Citibank`s was 278 percent; JPMorgan Chase`s, 382 percent; and HSBC America`s, 550 percent. It gets even worse: Goldman Sachs began reporting as a commercial bank, revealing an alarming total credit exposure of 1,056 percent, or more than ten times its capital!

Not only are there serious questions about whether or not JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs,Citibank, Wells Fargo, Sun Trust Bank, HSBC Bank USA, can continue in business, more than 1,800 regional and smaller institutions are at risk of failure despite government bailouts!

Put bluntly, the entire US Banking System is in complete and total collapse.

Here's a question: why did the big banks, just after the bail-outs, resume unsafe lending practices?

I've been wondering for a while now if there's any way to stop a complete economic collapse anymore. I wonder if they ought to not just hurry up and get it over with so us little people can start trying to rebuild after the fascists have run off with every damn thing.

Hello,

I can't speak for all institutions, but the one I work for has made big improvements. We've returned to what I call pre-spree practices. Reasonable DSR and LTV limits and a lots of paperwork required to prove income.

I hope we stay that way in the face of hard times, and don't get tempted to open the throttle to acquire imagined paper profits.

Hmm, okay. I thought I read an article once shortly after the bail-outs that said some of the banks were going back to bad habits.

Hello,

I'm sure that they are. And I worry what the future holds. My bank has traditionally been more conservative in their lending than other institutions. They were late to the free-for-all and thus survived the aftermath better. However, they were not innocent.

The thing is, there's almost a mob mentality that happens in the industry. If Bank A and B start some idiocy and post record profits, Bank C feels pressure to keep up. And that danger still exists. I just pray that our memories here aren't so short that we'd dive headlong into that sort of business so soon. So far, so good. I worry, though. All it takes is for someone to start looking good while rolling in the muck, and everyone will want a turn. Even the 'good' banks.

DREAMTROVE

Byte,

Because it's very profitable. Heres the trick;: I can make dreamtrove Inc, and it can lose money, so long as I personally make money. It doesn't matter if banks lose money, bankers make money somewhere else.

These schemes are set up with ddsignated bagholders, hopefully some hapless dupe, but possibly a shell corporation that can file for chapter 11 and take the liabilities with it.

The only way to move on is to build a new currency. This one is fucked, and became so when the banks became banks of issue capable of minting money for their own purposes, sort of like playing monopoly with a crooked banker.
