I've always been of the opinion that we vastly over fish our oceans.

Not that we shouldn't fish, but the practices used are beyond foolish.

Raptor, I am forced to agree with you yet again! I agree about the over-fishing...if everyone knew the full details, it would scare and sicken them. We are already affecting OURSELVES by overfishing, even if you don't give a damn about the animals. It will only get worse.

I didn't check your link, Whozit; I don't need to see it, I already know too much.

On another note, I'm assuming everyone's seen the viral "Christian the Lion" reunion video. For any who haven't seen it, and to cheer you up about our relationship with animals, here is the full video, in five parts.

We may be destroying by overfishing, but we're also destroying on land, and Africa is one of the worst places hit. The "Born Free Foundation" does wonderful work, and there are ways you can help, like t-shirts, mugs, dontations and "adopting" an animal (I have). If you feel like doing something to help, rather than just bemoaning the situation, check it out: http://www.bornfree.org.uk/get-involved/

Mind you, I am NOT disparaging anyone from NOT helping, we all have our own lives to deal with, just offering these videos as a counter to the feelings dead penguins may have left you with.

Very true.

Also, often we were China when we did it, though sometimes Japan. International fishing is a major worldwrecker and needs to be curtailed. Fish your own waters, and manage them well. The american continental coastlines are covered with asian fishing ships just outside the three mile limit. nonsense which has to stop.

I'm sure American companies are equally capable of doing this kind of damage, so we should think ahead and come up with a solution which prevents anyone from fishing someone else's waters, or overfishing their own.

Sigh, yes DT we agree 100% on that. Much good it will do. Here, corporations go for profit NOW...most of those running them know they'll be gone by the time the results are seen.

As for China and Japan, fish being a staple of their diet is partly to blame for their overfishing. I know of no way to solve that, given having a meat diet makes for overbreeding of cattle and bad use of the land as a result.

Maybe chickens...but to convince another culture of a change in its staple? Not in my lifetime...
