NIKI2

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

STILL going on...I guess we've "exampled" your very point, haven't we DT? Shees...

Byte: I'm ALL for education, sorry I didn't mention that; that's the single best answer, but I have no expectation it will happen, given the stance of a lot of the anti-choice folks.

And yes, I know not all anti-coice people are out there screaming and hollering, but the statement was that statistics were more important than personal feelings on the matter, and no statistics were provided to prove that, so I don't believe it. I think abortion is more than anything an emotional visceral and religious issue to most people.
Quote:

At least with the conservative view, we value the life of the innocent, and we condemn a murderer to death. Liberals value the life of a murderer, and condemn an innocent baby to death.
You are wrong. I am not "for abortion", I am "for choice"; I am not "against the death penalty", I believe it is more logical to spend less of my money on lawyers and courts, etc., to keep someone for life than to execute them. But I'm not against the death penalty, when it's truly been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the death penalty is appropriate. Given my CHOICE, I'd do away with it for two reasons: Financially it's stupid, and there have been innocent people executed. It’s a grey area for me. There are no greys in your positions.

Which is why I don't grasp the other mentality; it does NOT speak to the sanctity of all life, it speaks to judgment, in my opinion. "You deserve to die", "You MUST carry this child because I decided life begins at conception". That's forcing one's personal judgment on others.

The things I'm AGAINST are early parole and "not guilty by reason of mental defect" which ends up with the criminal spending some time in a psych hospital then turned loose again, and cases like the woman who was thrown in jail for using her father's address to send her kids to a better school. Far too many are in pison wrongly, because of racism, bad laws, bad EXECUTION of laws, etc. I'd like to see that addressed because, althought I DO believe in the sanctity of all life, I'm personally willing to forego that for someone who has done something horrific which can be truly proven unquestionably. In that respect I go against my own beliefs, but that's just me personally.

Just as you see people with extreme views demonstrating against the death penalty, they do not represent us all. I won't say most anti-death-penalty people are so because of statistics, not all those against the death penalty are so for the same reasons.

I don't respect anyone who is flatly against abortion and flatly FOR the death penalty--that is not "sanctity of life". Your preference for judgment shows in remarks like
Quote:

I say that makes liberals rather despicable in that regard
Trader; excellent, you I can respect completely. Also agree with as far as
Quote:

I agree, and for the record I am 'pro-life' in both respects. I don't understand how any Christian wouldn't be (but not understanding is NOT the same thing as criticizing or disapproving, it's not my place to judge). After all, how can a person redeem themselves after you kill them? I believe everyone deserves a second chance, and a third, etc... and that doesn't have to involve turning a blind eye to their past and setting yourself up for a back stab either
Bang on.I disagree about some of the other things you said, as I don’t believe any but a TINY minority take abortion lightly, and when it comes to education and the JUDGMENT that only abstinence can be taught, boy am I with you in spades. That is truly judgmental: “You can’t know about any other way of preventing pregnancy except the one I choose, but when through ignorance you get pregnant, I choose you must have the baby”.

As to it being selfish of a woman to terminate a pregnancy, isn’t it even more selfish to force her to go through pregnancy and birth, and in some cases raise a child, those changing the entire rest of HER life (because some “Christians” believe the mother MUST raise the child) because that’s what the person not bearing the child wants?

I’m also with you completely, Byte, on
Quote:

To that end, I'm really liking this idea about non-fatal abortions.
It’s the ideal answer. However, you’re right in that
Quote:

But to do that, we'd really have to fix the adoption system
which I don’t see happening, as it never has been throughout history.

Men want to make the decision about a woman’s body, tho’ they don’t necessarily have to undergo ANY of the things as the result of their demands. To force a woman to take on a life-long responsibility and go through pregnancy and birth is wrong, period, to me; unless the fetus is developed enough where I WOULD consider it a human being. NOT at conception, in my opinion. Far too many women, and the children they were forced to bear, suffer horribly as a result; until we can fix THAT, or come up with a way to bring that child to term without forcing the woman to endure pregnancy and birth, I don’t see a zygote as a human being.

CTTS says it forme
Quote:

1) I believe that I have absolutely no rights on another woman's body, and
2) I believe that I have absolutely no right to force another person to live by MY religious beliefs

and that expresses what I believe to be the TRULY Christian stance.

By the way, I usually read your posts whether they’re to me or not. Speaking for myself, you often make good points TO OTHERS which I find worth reading and responding to. You lose me when they wander away from things I have an interest in or get too wordy and complex, but I can understand why others would be interesting in reading your whole post, whoever it’s originally aimed at. I do.

Jezus, I didn't mean to come back to this Fake World Event; I shouldn't click on things like this because I always find points I want to respond to, dammit.

Simple...the hotties can stay. We use similar rules at local night clubs.

It might need a system for exemptions. Okay, you can stay. Your brother, he's gotta go. Oh, but you haven't see his daughter. DOH!

America is an incredibly big place. 12 million mexicans are not going to make it any different. Just more burritoed.

If we only let in hot illegal Mexican ladies, then we will alter the stereotype of what a Mexican illegal is.

If we ever get to the point that the words 'Mexican illegal' bring to mind hot latinas rather then the dude from Machete...then I suspect immigration reform will be forthcoming and the walls will come tumbling down.
