For the second year in a row, the U.S. military has lost more troops to suicide than it has to combat in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The reasons are complicated and the accounting uncertain — for instance, should returning soldiers who take their own lives after being mustered out be included?

But the suicide rate is a further indication of the stress that military personnel live under after nearly a decade of war.

Figures released by the armed services last week showed an alarming increase in suicides in 2010, but those figures leave out some categories.....

Bring our troops home now, and give them a lot of support and counseling.

Stop destroying our youth.

Does lean towards the eugenics aspects of war. I mean, they always recruit from the lower classes.

They took the orders, they obeyed them.

IMHO, the consequences of that, moral and otherwise, are on them.

I realize that's a minority opinion, but without people "just following orders" tyranny can not occur.

Every since the moment the Active-Duty US Army stationed a unit stateside, under orders to pacify *us* if we exercise the will of the people in an uncivil fashion when our so-called leaders ignore it, every single member of the armed forces who did not tear off their insignia and tell their CO to go to hell is one of the bad guys to me, sorry, but there it is.

So how the hell can you expect me to feel sorry for people who by their refusal, accepted the notion that one day they might have to grind my face under their boot for doing no more than my Constitutional Duty ?

I note for the record that the vast majority of the suicides occur after the troops come home. Probably because after fighting for their country they can't stand living next to and in a country controlled by pansy-assed liberals.

The obvious solution is lets not bring them home. In fact, since Iraq is winding down, lets invade Iran...for the troops.

I note for the record that in order to both keep our troops in combat and give them a rest...perhaps we could invade a vacation spot...like EuroDisney or Australia...

I'm with CTTS.

Oh Jezus, that's TRULY horrific Hero. I hope to gawd you said that tongue in cheek!

Ex-soldiers committing suicide has nothing to do with the atrocities they saw (and sometimes committed), the difficulty of re-entering society when jobs are hard to find, the divorces and affairs which sometimes result from overseas stationing, PTSD, switching from a mentality of violence and distrust to peacetime...no, it's all about liberals. Even as a joke, there's no excuse for that! Gawd that pisses me off; turning to politics and blaming a political party and ignoring all the very real and difficult things soldiers face upon returning from combat...it don't get much lower...
