So it's really a no win. you get high bail for pettiness, but they technically can't let any harm come to you while you're in holding that they can't cover up, so they put you in solitary to protect you from the other inmates and guards. But they still don't like you, so they also do a lot of petty stuff to you while you're in solitary.

That's assuming military court has bail, I'm not sure they do.

On the plus side if they really wanted to be rid of him they COULD have just thrown him to the violent types and had them take care of him pre-trial. Though I'm not ruling out they might try that anyway.

No bail in the military justice system.

I remember reading that Lt. Calley was freed on bail after My Lai. But that was a different time and circumstances I guess.

Do you know why Rhode Island would have its own code of MJ that allows bail?

Just curious. Very weird.

Colin Powell was actually in charge of the cover-up for MyLai. He fucked it up, and the story got out. He was trying to do the evil thing, but he was too incompetent. Promote that man. He's loyal to the powers that be, who cares what else he is?

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

Not familiar with that. Off the top of my head a state militia does not operate under the aegis of the Department of Defense. Perhaps they have a different legal precedent more closely following civilian law?

Okay, looks like any state could have its own military law regarding national guard or militia, for when they are not activated for federal service.

William Calley was freed on bail after he was convicted of 22 counts of murder for My Lai. Nixon ordered him placed under house arrest at Fort Benning pending appeal of his original sentence of life at hard labor. After 3 1/2 years of house arrest he petitioned a federal judge for habeus corpus and was ordered released.

Basically, politicians interfering with the military justice system.

Thanks, Hardware.

ETA: I was wrong about bail being an alternative.

While searching around the internet, I was shocked to find a good many others who are in solitary confinement indefinitely for "their own protection." Apparently, the prison system has no alternatives to the GP besides SC.

So I was thinking, why not put people who are in SC for their own protection, together? Not all of them together, but surely even few of them together is better than no one else at all. Or let them eat meals and exercise together. Something.
