"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Quote:

WASHINGTON -- At some point this weekend, whether on a stage in South Carolina or Iowa, Texas Gov. Rick Perry is expected step up to a microphone, put an end to months of media speculation and formally announce his bid for the presidency.

But in doing so, Perry would be violating the spirit of an amendment he proposed to the Texas constitution in 1989. Filed that March, the amendment called for "the automatic resignation from office of certain public officials seeking other elective office."

In other words, the 1989 version of Perry would probably think Gov. Perry should resign from office before hopping on that plane to South Carolina.

Perry's amendment did not equivocate:

"The candidacy constitutes an automatic resignation of the office then held, and the vacancy created shall be filled pursuant to law in the same manner as other vacancies for the office are filled."

The forced resignation would kick in for anyone holding elected office that paid $10,000 or more per year. Gov. Perry certainly falls into that category.

You expected otherwise than hypocrisy? Shame on you Mike, you should know better! Rules only apply to those who DON'T MAKE THEM, remember? Just like "small government" only applies to government THEY would want to make smaller, not like abortion, gay marriage...you know, the "jobs"-creating stuff... THOSE they want!

Keep the Shiny side up

Too bad the Huffington Post writer didn't read the proposed legislation they cited.

The 'automatic resignation' only applies if the person files for another office within the time between election to their position and the first 180 days of their term of office.

Perry was sworn in on Jan 18, 2011 for his third term, so the 180 days has passed.

Actually the writer mentions that and talks about it in the article. Plus the writer is not questioning if he should be forced out, but if the Rick Perry of the past would be asking the current Perry to resign.

He didn't ask anyone to resign back then or now.

He proposed a change in the law that both did not pass and would not apply in this situation.

For example, if you were to propose that the speed limit in your neighborhood be changed from 35 to 25 and that proposal gets rejected, that does not mean that you can't go 55 on the local highway.

To be fair I'm sure Rick Perry would agree to resign if Obama will. Its a fair trade. I have a feeling that Obama and Perry are going to be a good match if it comes to that. Perry can prove that he's all about jobs by getting a new one for 2013 and Obama can learn what its like to be unemployed. Maybe Obama will move to Texas since he's more likely to find work there.

Your right, no one said he did. That is why the article asks the question of if he would have because of the spirit of the law.

You should try reading it.

...but if you drive 35 in your neighborhood after your proposal is rejected your still a hypocrite.

I love when people accuse others of not reading, and then prove themselves guilty of same.

Geezer didn't read the article, obviously, before accusing its author of not reading the amendment proposed by Perry.

Also, "Hero" can't really read at anything more than about a third grade level. And he's quite proud of that.

Right after all Republicans stop using all public services and go sign up to serve in Iraq and Afghanistan.

You'll find that the vast majority of those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan are Republicans. And Republicans are not against all public services, but we'd be happy to not use the ones we don't get taxed for and agree we don't need.

Sounds like a good deal. Republicans will foot the bill for the military and all its wars and their costs then, right?

Also, do you by any chance have ANY credible evidence to back up your claim that "the vast majority" serving in Iraq and Afghanistan are Republicans?

Let's put Kiki's hypothesis to the test, and see if "Hero" here runs away or actually posts up some real data.
