After all, it's not just about what you earn, it's also about what you keep. And from my time as a teller, those who employed these three principles were those who were the most well-off -- not just in terms of financial well-being, but also in terms of happiness and general well-being. Because when you don't have the burden of immense financial stress, you have something everyone wants and the overarching goal of having money: financial freedom.

Start talking to your husband, right now, about what you’re going to say when your in-laws ask to live with you. Given the current housing market, it’s a much more likely scenario than the one in which they travel the world.

Arnaud Bertrand - How Israel Stepped Into A Trap

by Arnaud Bertrand
(Republished with the author's permission)

One of the more interesting arguments I've been seeing A LOT on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is: "Hamas undoubtedly predicted Israel's massive retaliation, that makes them all the more guilty for sacrificing Palestinian lives".

What people don't realize is that the fact this reaction - the massive collective punishment - was indeed immensely predictable says just as much about Israel than it does about Hamas.

It says a lot about Israel for 3 reasons. 1) It says a lot about Israel's image that it was expected to react with massive collective punishment, violating international law. 2) It also says a lot about Israel's inability to think strategically that it would react in exactly the way its adversary predicted it to. Revenge is not a strategy, in fact it is the opposite of strategic. And, lastly 3) it says a lot that Israel doesn't seem to have learned a thing from the US's immense mistakes in its post 9-11 response.

Yes, of course, it also says a lot about Hamas, because they knew their actions would undoubtedly cause untold suffering on their own people (on top of the suffering they caused with the attacks). No question there.

This looks to be, unfortunately, a competition for whom can gain the most sympathy from the outside world for their suffering. And from where I am standing, Israel is losing big time by playing into the hand of its adversary. Even Europe - Europe! - is on the verge today of breaking ranks with a full-on revolt at the highest levels of the bureaucracy against Von Der Leyen for her unqualified support for Israel. This is on top of renewed support for the Palestinian cause by the Muslim world, and generally the entire global South (with the notable exception of India, who pretty much runs on Islamophobia today under Modi).

I'm going to go out on a limb here and hypothesize that this was Hamas, as an organization, committing suicide for the Palestinian cause. Hamas undoubtedly won't survive this, it's pretty clear. And sadly thousands of innocent lives will be lost. But they've focused the entire global conversation on their topic and Israel's reaction is making Palestinians win the sympathy war.

What should Israel have done instead? Well, they should have recognized which war Hamas was baiting them into. Not a war against them per se, but a war for hearts and minds. They missed the forest for the trees. Which is stunning because they started with the upper hand, by far. They could have used the initial attacks to rally immense support, declare a period of mourning, unify much of the world around the just cause of not killing innocent civilians. Instead, they started doing so in turn, on an even grander scale: so far they've killed 614 children and 370 women. It's an unfathomable and immensely consequential mistake.

This war also reveals something interesting, and I'll end with this. It reveals how much power and influence the wider West has lost in driving the global conversation. Remember post 9-11, when the US had much the same overaction as Israel today by invading Afghanistan? At the time we didn't hear any significant opposition. It was there for sure but it was inaudible. Today by contrast it is so overwhelming that even Europe - Europe! - feels compelled to dissent. Which of course they'd never do out of pure morality, they do so because they have their back against the wall, in their words they "don't want to lose the global South", which wasn't even remotely a factor back in 2001. Heck we just saw that the US asked China - China! - to "use its influence to push for calm in the Middle-East": this would have been absolutely unthinkable 22 years ago, what better proof that they themselves lost their influence? Influence ironically lost for the very reason that they overreacted 22 years ago: how ironical that they'd ask for China's help today in supporting yet another overaction, they really can't help themselves ...

Israel-Hamas War Latest: Israeli Troops Amass At Border As Iran Warns It Will Intervene If Ground Offensive Launched

After giving the northern Gaza strip an evacuation ultimatum on Friday, Israel has so far withheld from launching a "significant" ground operation, with some speculating that requests from the US to evacuate all US citizens out of Palestine ahead of the invasion is what is holding Israel back. Meanwhile, Iran’s foreign minister on Saturday said that if Israeli “war crimes & genocide” are not stopped, the war might expand to other parts of the Middle East if Hezbollah joins the battle, and that would make Israel suffer “a huge earthquake.” Meanwhile, Axios reported that Tehran has sent Jerusalem a message through the UN that it will intervene if the campaign in Gaza continues, and particularly if it launches a ground offensive.

https://www.calculator.net/inflation-calculator.html

You are too young to remember on Oct. 19, 1973, following then-President Richard Nixon’s decision to provide Israel with $2.2 billion in emergency aid in support of the Yom Kippur War, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) approved an oil embargo on the U.S. This effectively shut off the exports of Arab crude oil to the U.S., followed by a series of steep production cuts in output.

Before the embargo, a barrel of oil traded for around $2.90, quadrupling to $11.65 per barrel by January 1974. This led to an increase in the price of regular gasoline in the U.S. from an average of 39 cents per gallon before the crisis to 53 cents in 1974, an increase of around 36% in less than a year.

No. This is not a valid indicator of inflation by any metric. Postage stamp increases are approved by the Governors of the USPS and are not tied to any automatic triggers.

A better (but not perfect) example that you could have used would be the COLA raises for Social Security by year.

TRUMP:
2017: 2.0%
2018: 2.8%
2019: 1.6%
2020: 1.3%

Non-Compounded TOTAL COLA during Trump's administration (4 YEARS): 7.7%

Non-Compounded AVERAGE COLA during Trump's administration: 1.925%

BIDEN*:
2021: 5.9%
2022: 8.7%
2023: 3.2%

Non-Compounded TOTAL COLA during Biden*'s administration (ONLY 3 YEARS): 17.8%

Non-Compounded AVERAGE COLA during Biden*'s administration: 5.93%

Yeah. That's how they figure out COLA, why your numbers mirror my COLA example, and why your Post Office example is meaningless, dummy.

It doesn't paint the whole picture though. These are not compounded numbers. The higher prices compound every year. This is bad enough when you're averaging 2% inflation (the target FED rate, and slightly higher than Trump's 4 year average). It's terrible when you're bordering 6% average every year.

FED inflation calculations, as always, uses metrics that don't necessarily reflect the ACTUAL increase in the cost of living. Unlike the inflation that hit during the Obama years that was heavily lopsided on goods and services that most people could do without, during the entirety of the Biden* administration they've hit food and energy particularly hard. These are things that people cannot live without, and their impact is not calculated honestly when they calculate inflation. (This is not a new phenomena during the Biden* administration... This is ALWAYS the case).

Now that we've got all of that settled, let's look at compounded figures.

For illustrative purposes, let's just say that One American Dollar was worth One American Dollar on the day that Trump was inaugurated, and then they were reset again when Joe Biden* took office. In other words, 100 cents bought 100 cents worth of goods and services on January 20th, 2017, and then 100 cents bought 100 cents worth of goods and services once again on January 20th, 2021. Inflation will be calculated for each year when SSA redetermines COLA in October of every year).

TRUMP YEARS:

After year one (October 2017), with 2.0% inflation, it now took $1.02 to buy what $1.00 used to buy in January 2017.

YEAR ONE TOTAL INCREASE FROM JAN 2017: $0.02

After year two (October 2018), with an additional 2.8% inflation, it now took $1.04856 to buy what $1.00 used to buy in January 2017. ($1.02 x 1.028)

YEAR TWO TOTAL INCREASE FROM JAN 2017: $0.05

After year three (October 2019), with an additional 1.6% inflation, it now took $1.06533696 to buy what $1.00 used to buy in January 2017. ($1.04856 x 1.016)

YEAR THREE TOTAL INCREASE FROM JAN 2017: $0.07

After year four (October 2020), with an additional 1.3% inflation, it now took $1.07918634048 to buy what $1.00 used to buy in January 2017. ($1.06533696 x 1.013)

YEAR FOUR TOTAL INCREASE FROM JAN 2017: $0.08

BIDEN* YEARS: (Reset value of $1.00 to $1.00)

After year one (October 2021), with 5.9% inflation, it now took $1.059 to buy what $1.00 used to buy in January 2021. ($1.00 x 1.059)

YEAR ONE TOTAL INCREASE FROM JAN 2021: $0.06

After year two (October 2022), with an additional 8.7% inflation, it now took $1.151133 to buy what $1.00 used to buy in January 2021. ($1.059 x 1.087)

YEAR TWO TOTAL INCREASE FROM JAN 2021: $0.15

After year three (NOW October 2023), with an additional 3.2% inflation, it now took $1.187969256 to buy what $1.00 used to buy in January 2021. ($1.151133 x 1.032)

YEAR THREE TOTAL INCREASE FROM JAN 2021: $0.19

During 4 years of Trump, the value of the dollar when he took office decreased by around 7.9%

During only 3 years of Biden* the value of the dollar since he took office has already decreased by 18.8%.

And inflation hasn't gotten back to 2% yet, and by all accounts it appears to be rising again. If I'm being nice to the Biden* and give him another low-ball estimate of 3.2% next year to match this year (1.187969256 x 1.032) you're going to need 1.225984272192 to buy what $1.00 used to buy in January of 2021, and Biden*'s 4 year inflation increase is going to be 22.6% vs. Trump's 7.9% four year increase.

Best case scenario, that's just a hair under 3 times as much devaluation of the Dollar under Biden* as what happened under Trump. And that's only if inflation doesn't go out of control again in 2024 like some people are predicting that it will.

And everybody knows that this doesn't count food and energy when they use this COLA metric. Price increases for both food and energy are far more higher than only 18.8% since Joe Biden* took office in January of 2021. Anybody renting an apartment or buying a new/used car will tell you that it was more than an 18.8% increase since January of 2021 too.

Bigger than you think because Egypt receives foreign aid in exchange for NOT attacking Israel.

Five countries have received over a quarter of all US foreign aid since World War II.
US foreign aid by top 5 recipient country, adjusted for inflation, 1946-2021

Israel $312.5 billion
Vietnam $184.5 billion
Egypt $183.7 billion (Egypt paid to NOT attack Israel)
Afghanistan $158.9 billion
South Korea $120.7 billion

Inflation adjusted to 2022 dollars.

Judaism Can’t Justify What Israel Is Doing

By Abraham Josephine Riesman and S.I. Rosenbaum | Oct 17, 2023 9:54 AM

A nuance in Jewish law and culture is being tragically misused and misunderstood.

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2023/10/israel-gaza-war-hamas-juda
ism-pikuach-nefesh.html

When Solomon Perel died this past February in Jerusalem, he did not die alone. With him went the alter ego he’d created more than half a century before, when as a Jewish teenager he survived the Holocaust by hiding in plain sight as “Jupp,” a member of the Hitler Youth. In his many postwar decades living as a citizen of Israel, Perel would give interviews in which he swore, up and down, that Jupp was a fully formed personality that took over his body—and that never fully left him.

Perel’s story was immortalized in one of the great Jewish films, Polish director Agnieszka Holland’s overlooked Europa Europa, from 1990. At the film’s conclusion, young Perel is improbably reunited with his brother, who has been in one of the concentration camps. The two tearfully embrace, and Solomon starts to explain why he is dressed as a Nazi. His brother stops him.

“I don’t care how you survived,” the brother says. “I care that you survived.”

Perel’s story, in fiction and in fact, is an extreme example of a Jewish religious and cultural concept known in Hebrew as pikuach nefesh. Roughly translated, it means “to save a life.” The basic principle is simple: If complying with a Jewish law would endanger you, that law may be suspended. This principle is built on thousands of years of persecution and danger. Unlike other Abrahamic faiths, Judaism traditionally puts little value on martyrdom. If you have to betray your faith to survive, so be it. Survival—individually, and as a people—matters more than anything.

Many American Jews first learn about pikuach nefesh in the context of the Jewish calendar’s most solemn holiday, Yom Kippur, during which Jews traditionally go without food or water for 25 autumnal hours. Children who are nervous about such an undertaking are often told a story about someone being so ill that a fast would have killed them, and subsequently being granted a reprieve from a rabbi on the grounds of pikuach nefesh. It’s a comforting thought for a child: Obeying the Law sounds scary, but at least there’s an exception to keep me alive.

Pikuach nefesh has become deeply relevant in recent days. On Oct. 7, Hamas carried out the largest massacre of Jews since 1945. Today, Israel’s answer is well underway: We are witnessing what may become the greatest massacre perpetuated by Jews in history. In Gaza, all normal rules have been suspended. There is no medicine. There is no fuel. There are no escape routes. There are no civilians, in the eyes of the Israeli military, which is freely bombing hospitals and schools.

Meanwhile, in Israel proper, the hard-right communications minister is backing an emergency measure that would allow the government to imprison any Israeli citizen who “undermines the morale of Israel’s soldiers and residents in the face of the enemy” in social media posts. Long-running street protests against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have ceased as masses of Israelis are sent to battle; his bitter rivals have had no choice but to fall in line behind their PM on a war footing. Meanwhile, despite some public urging from Joe Biden over the weekend to distinguish Palestinian civilians from Hamas, the U.S. and EU have pledged virtually unconditional support for whatever the Israeli leadership feels it must do.

Hamas’ surprise attack has been called “Israel’s 9/11.” And indeed, it’s hard not to see the aftermath of 9/11 in Israel’s reaction: the rushed and brutal military retaliation, ethnicity-based security crackdowns, capitulation of world leadership. It didn’t go well back then either. Afraid for our lives in 2001, Americans agreed to suspend the legal and ethical norms of our society, such as they were. Doing so, President George W. Bush and others continually argued, was a matter of life and death. A matter of survival.

You could see this as a kind of secular pikuach nefesh—but it led only to more slaughter.

This is one of many problems with pikuach nefesh as a principle. How can one determine when suspending a law is truly a matter of life or death? How do you determine that it’s the only option? What if you suspend a law and the suspension leads to death—even death on a more massive scale than anything avoided?

For these reasons and more, pikuach nefesh has historically been a divisive topic, never quite resolved in a way that firmly establishes what it means for religious Jews, let alone secular ones. Yet after the Holocaust, the concept became the unspoken baseline assumption of militant Zionism, as well as a justification for a permanent state of emergency in which Jewish citizens have severely curtailed civil liberties and occupied Palestinians have virtually none.

As Naomi Klein recently wrote in the Guardian:

For Zionist believers (I’m not one of them), Jew-hatred is the central rationale for why Israel must exist as a nuclear-armed fortress. Within this worldview, antisemitism is cast as a primordial force that cannot be weakened or confronted. The world will always turn away from us in our hour of need, Zionism tells us, just as it did during the Holocaust, which is why force alone is presented as the only conceivable response to any and all threats.

The Talmud instructs Jews that there are three things so sinful that the ancient rabbis decided one should prefer death to doing them: sex crimes, idol worship, and—last but most important—bloodshed. And yet, in a world in which Jews live in a perpetual state of existential peril, the law can never be unsuspended; any atrocity is permitted, forever.

Solomon Perel may have done what was necessary for his survival. But what real harm might he have committed during his masquerade as a genocidaire? We accept that in order to survive, it was necessary for him to break not only from Jewish law, but even from the ethics we like to believe underpin those laws. To become something anathema to himself: a Nazi. Once you have saluted gangsters and mass murderers, even if it was in a time of crisis and duress, it’s always hard to shake the sickness you catch from them. Look at the post-9/11 American right.

Or look at Perel: He took Jupp with him to the Holy Land, forever doing battle in his mind with the little fascist construct and its unending hatred. The dovish and generally liberal-Zionist Solomon would find himself reading about the pro-Israel lobby in Washington, for example, and as he put it, “The ‘Jupp’ in me says, ‘See, these are the same methods that we learned about: The Jews don’t have to be in government, it’s enough that they influence the government.’ ” Or perhaps he’d see a sleazy Hollywood movie directed by a Jew “and I think, ‘Jews poison Western culture.’ ” The monster he invented never left him.

Diaspora Jews who have wrestled with Israel’s actions have sought to disentangle Judaism from Zionism. We are not all Israeli. But it is true that these things are done, and continue to be done, in our names. What will be left of our civilization a thousand years from now? Will Judaism survive—or will something else live inside it, wearing our name, looking through our eyes?

It’s hard not to feel the same plummeting sensation in the gut that so many of us felt in late 2001, hearing that whatever America did next was justified because of what had just come before. We have all lived with the consequences. If there is still time for us to learn from still-living history, let us do so now, for the sake of life.

If we did what Israel is doing now when GWB was President, the wars in the middle east would have lasted 1 week tops and there wouldn't have been another war since.

No US money to Israel, but I hope they bomb out the entire region and bring the Muslim population down to something much more manageable.

Europe needs to be kicking them all out starting now. We should be doing so as well.

6ix, doing more in War on Terror would have cost more.

Do you really not know that $8 Trillion was spent on the War on Terror?

Do you really not know that the War on Terror killed at least 4.7 million?

SIX, you're too smart to be this stupid..

You can't eliminate "terrorism" by bombing whole nations, or even entire cities. Hell, we tried that in Fallujah with "shake n bake" operations (bomb until people run out of falling buildings and then drop white phosphorus on them - hint: WAR CRIME) and where did it get us??

An entire nation of justifiably pissed off people who weren't terrorists to begin with, but some certainly turned to terrorism afterwards.

Hamas may be Palestinian, but not all Palestinians are Hamas. Muslims may be terrorists (BTW there are a lot more terrorists than just Muslims) but not all Muslims are terrorists.

As an owner of land, I am reflexively against theft of land. Israel stole the Holy Land: ". . . land documents were destroyed in a series of mysterious fires and acts of vandalism in Nablus, Jenin, Bethlehem and Ramallah in 1984 and 1985." It is impolite to say, but there is no mystery. The records were burned by Israel. Israelis dare you to prove they did it, but they did it, anyway.
https://merip.org/1997/03/documenting-land-ownership-in-the-palestinia
n-authority
/

Israel denies it stole land, but it can't deny that the displaced landowners are still around and still want their land returned. And they are certainly mad about it, especially when Jews insist they are the true owners of the Holy Land for thousands of years because God gave it to them.

Legal finagling goes a long way to explain today's situation: On 24 June 1948, the Israeli government enacted the Abandoned Property Ordinance to control the property of Palestinians who were expelled or fled because of the fighting. Three days later, it adopted the Abandoned Areas Ordinance, which gave the state wider control over entire “abandoned areas” and not just emptied property. In July 1948, it created the Ministerial Committee for Abandoned Property along with a Custodian of Abandoned Property.

Here is an easy explanation: In Texas, the Democrats want air-conditioning for the prisons because prisoners are dying from heat stroke in their cells. The Republicans don't want air-conditioning because the only good prisoner is a dead prisoner as far as Republicans are concerned. In Gaza, the Israelis turned off the air conditioning for the 2.3 million Palestinian prisoners by turning off the electricity. Also turned off water, food, gasoline, and diesel because the only good Palestinian is a dead Palestinian so far as Israelis are concerned.

Britain stole land and gave it to Israel, and there have been fights over that ever since. Israel stole MORE land, causing more fighting against that. You don't have to be a Zionist-hater or Palestinian-lover to see that, AFA land is concerned, Israel is in the WRONG, even by international law. The only major power blocking the formation of a Palestinian state is... the USA.

Set aside your conditioning for a moment, that Israel is our "friend" in the Middle East and that Muslims are head-chopping jihadists. Bc, yanno, that's all you're allowed to see in the M$M.

Even tho most Muslims aren't terrorists, I find their religion distateful and their treatment of women abhorrent. And those that are terrorists are amoral scum.

BUT THAT'S NOT MY PROBLEM TO SOLVE, NOR YOURS.

The only time to get involved is when USA SECURITY is involved... and better border controls would go a long, long way to solving OUR security problem. Just as France has to solve ITS security problem, and Sweden has to solve ITS security problem... and Israel has to solve ITS security problem.

How about we just keep our fingers out of everyone else's business and mind our own?

Why do you keep saying "my conditioning" and other similar bullshit? I'm no fan of Israel, and American Jews are largely in charge of the cultural decay in America for generations now.

I view this as one faction I despise versus one that I find extremely manipulative, amoral, distasteful that also wields far too much power over the minds of people worldwide and is in severe need of being knocked down a peg or two. They have all the so-called benefits of being White when it suits their needs (really, just the benefits of being rich and powerful), but whenever they fuck up and/or try to get away with doing horrible shit they throw out the "Jew Shield" card and are immune to any criticism.

Also, I don't pay any mind to anything the Legacy Media has to say except for what not to believe.

Their religion is a DISEASE and needs to be trampled into the ground so hard that it never reappears.

Exactly. That's why I say, no taxpayer dollars to Israel, no military support for Israel and certainly no troops sent to Israel, but my hope is that they eradicate the Muslim religion when this is all over.

Unfortunately though, it really IS our problem now. We've let these scum into our borders for decades now. The enemy lives among us, in our neighborhoods. Everybody will be singing a much different tune about EVERYTHING when they choose to make their move.

In so few words, Signym, you gave away what is wrong with you and I didn't even need to torture you to reveal your true nature.

For example: if North Korea (created by Russia) was in control of all of Korea, there would not be a South Korea. That sounds obvious, right? But there is a huge difference between North and South Korea, a country that only exists because the US kept it in existence after the fission or mitosis of one country. The US stuck its fingers into somebody else's business, Russia's business of building a puppet country in Asia.

According to North Korea, they are the nearly perfect half of Korea while South Korea is hellish, full of evil from the US. But according to reality, North Korea is the worst country in the world, or close to it, and yet Signym writes, "So what???" As if being the worst half of Korea is nothing wrong, while the best half of Korea, the South, is nothing right. You are revealed, Signym, for what you are.

Russia could achieve in Ukraine what it achieved in North Korea. Millions died in North Korea by starvation, prison and execution. Russia killed 4 million Ukrainians during Holodomor while taking control of it but has since lost that control. Getting Ukraine back will require Russia to kill more millions. For the time being, the US has stuck its fingers into Russia's business of killing millions of Ukrainians.

A central issue in an intractable conflict

By Matthew Yglesias | Oct 18, 2023

https://www.slowboring.com/p/palestinian-right-of-return-matters

Palestinians who’d originally been living inside the territory that Jews won during the Israeli War of Independence (1948) left during and shortly after the fighting.

Specifying how and why, exactly, this leaving occurred is contentious. The standard Zionist position (the one I was taught in Hebrew school, for example) is that Palestinians voluntarily left their homes at the urging of the warring Arab states — primarily Jordan, Egypt, and Syria — with the promise that they would soon return as conquerors.

The standard Palestinian nationalist position is that they were ethnically cleansed at gunpoint.

This interpretive disagreement is an important point of contention when it comes to commemoration of the Nakba (or “catastrophe”), the Arab name for these events that Israel characterizes as a victorious war of independence. In pro-Israel circles, this terminology is understood to mean that Arabs believe Israel coming into existence was a catastrophe. In other circles, the term is understood to refer to the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians who previously lived inside Israel’s 1948-1967 borders.

I do not, personally, think that reconstructing strictly accurate accounts of events that occurred generations ago is generally all that helpful in solving present-day problems. I think Israelis could square the circle somewhat by accepting the Palestinian narrative about the origin of the refugee problem, but a version in which the “catastrophe” was the displacement of people rather than the creation of the Jewish State per se. In that view, Palestinians can mourn their Nakba (just as Israelis mourn the Holocaust and the expulsion of Middle Eastern Jews from their homes), while Israelis celebrate their independence. The harder question is what follows from this.

The right of return

The answer, in pro-Palestinian circles, is clear. Those who left and their descendants should return to the towns, cities, and villages where they lived before the Nakba. Here I’ll quote from Amnesty International:

“More than 70 years after the conflict that followed Israel’s creation, the Palestinian refugees who were forced out of their homes and dispossessed of their land as a result continue to face the devastating consequences,” said Philip Luther, Amnesty International’s Research and Advocacy Director for the Middle East and North Africa.

“This weekend almost 200 million people will tune in to watch the Eurovision song contest in Israel, but, behind the glitz and glamour, few will be thinking of Israel’s role in fuelling seven decades of misery for Palestinian refugees.

“There can be no lasting solution to the Palestinian refugee crisis until Israel respects Palestinian refugees’ right to return. In the meantime, Lebanese and Jordanian authorities must do everything in their power to minimize the suffering of Palestinian refugees by repealing discriminatory laws and removing obstacles blocking refugees’ access to employment and essential services.”

There are currently more than 5.2 million registered Palestinian refugees. The vast majority live in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT). Israel has failed to recognize their right under international law to return to homes where they or their families once lived in Israel or the OPT. At the same, they have never received compensation for the loss of their land and property.

Israel as a whole has a population of about 9.7 million people, of whom approximately 7.1 million are Jewish. An influx of 5.2 million Palestinian refugees would completely upend the demographic balance of the country.

The normal response in Zionist circles is that this proposal would mean the destruction of Israel, or its destruction as a Jewish state. You’re supposed to say that Palestinian insistence on this right shows that the whole idea of a Two-State Solution is based on a misunderstanding. Western liberals see the proposal as the idea of one state for Israelis and a second state for Palestinians, but the Palestinians see themselves as proposing one state for Palestinians and a second binational state.

Conversely, if you read Benjamin Wallace-Wells’ profile of Peter Beinart, you see that as Beinart’s views have shifted from standard Zionist to progressive critic to post-Zionist, a key difference is that he is now a supporter of a right of return. Because if you are going to insist on the return of potentially millions of Palestinians to Israel, that means you have faith in the possibility of peaceful coexistence in a binational state. And if you believe in peaceful coexistence in a binational state, then simply creating one binational state for the entire area solves a bunch of other logistical problems. You suddenly don’t need to talk about uprooting Israeli settlements, about how to connect the West Bank and Gaza, or about who has access to Jerusalem and other holy sites.

But if you forget everything you know about the conflict in the Middle East and just think about immigration politics here in the United States (or wherever you live), you can see that this is a big pill for the electorate to swallow. Forgetting the ideological structure of Zionism or the particular ethnic and religious animosities at issue here, people everywhere tend to be extremely skeptical of refugee inflows on that scale.

For the past 10 years, I have been attempting to achieve a more zen-like open-mindedness on questions of how things should be arranged in distant places that I have no personal connection to. But I do think that if you’re going to write articles about the central role of Palestinian rights in Arab politics, you need to be very clear what rights you’re talking about, because the question of how heavy a lift it is to get Palestinian rights respected hinges in part on what rights are being claimed.

West's Pro-Israel Position Accelerates Its Loss Of Power

Western media start to note how their politicians' unwavering support for Israel and Ukraine is diminishing their countries' global standing.

At Naked Capitalism Yves Smith notes the devastating political effects of the Gaza bombing on Biden's foreign policies:

Quote:

Biden Gets Zelensky Treatment in Middle East as Israel Tries to Escalate

The US, in a continued demonstration of the degree of enbubblement of what passes for its leadership, seems to believe it still has the force and soft power to be able to bully talk its way out of its geopolitical messes. Yet this week we have stunning examples of how critical players in the rest to the world no longer buy what the US is selling. The gap between the American establishment’s connection to reality and facts on the ground has opened up to a yawning chasm as the Arab world, as Jordan cancelled a Biden summit with its King Abduallah II plus PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in response to Israel’s shelling of Al-Ahli Arab hospital. Not only are they rejecting the attempt to shift blame for the attack to Hamas (we’ll soon address the “rogue shell” claim), but also the bigger pretense behind that, that the US is incapable of, as opposed to unwilling to, applying the choke chain to Israel.

Even the Western media are not much on board with the Israeli and Biden Administration pretense that somehow Hamas dunnit, when Israel has been trying to herd Palestinians out of northern Gaza and specifically attempted to order the evacuation of the hospital. Oh, and this follows Israel ordering the UN to evacuate from Gaza in 24 hours and then shelling its warehouse there

In the real world...where debt and injury and trouble came from Vietnam and Afghanistan
the Middle East on Fire again

Tensions rise

more time of people's lives take up and effort wasted as nobody with power wants peace

Mohammedans, jihads, muslim, islamists or "moslem".

A dislike of Muzzie 'culture' in the West, terror attacks in Asia and Europe as the jihadi retards call for an uprise...but against what infidel this time...sometimes they kill their own for not being muslim enough, Michigan, Virginia, Illinois, Texas, NewYork they pop out many welfare babies and teach jihad culture, in Flordia brawls on the streets but to give credit to the Israeli Jewish they seem less insane than muslim types screeching death, cheering for Hamas who just killed Americans

Did something happen that CERN time machine? are we so stupefied by noise its so easy to lose perspective
People's memories have been re-wrote?
The Mandela Effect conspiracy?

can you imagine saying this a year after 911, people would cheer and dance in the streets for some islamic group oppressing their own type and shooting and killing Americans in grenade, bombing and mass shooter jihad attacks and college and elite university groups would cheer for those taking US citizens hostage
in the USA a growing islamic population Hatred towards Jews on university campuses

the wishes of a dead McCain might come true?

Quite likely very few Americans, both Jews and non-Jews, are aware of Schneerson’s teachings about the alleged deep differences between them – and about how these teachings are applied in the West Bank and Gaza.

Who’s Responsible for the Gaza Hospital Explosion? Here’s Why It’s Hard to Know What’s Real

A flood of false information, partisan narratives, and weaponized “fact-checking" has obscured efforts to find out who’s responsible for an explosion at a hospital in Gaza.

https://www.wired.com/story/al-ahli-baptist-hospital-explosion-disinfo

I think one of the most disturbing aspects of studying disinfo is when you realize that even fact-checking has become weaponized. Most people don’t care about the truth about the hospital being bombed; they just care about finding a truth to use against the other side.

If not, then whose interests are we fighting for? And why we fighting for them?

And what does Russia and N Korea have to do with Israel anyway?

At least someone knows how to stay on-topic and bring some actual information to us!

Yes, I have heard this.

At the time of founding, Jews were A TRIBE, like any othe tribe. And they still identify as a tribe through bloodlines. And being a tribe surrounded by so many other tribes, they had to distingiush themselves in some fashion

Some tribes used tatoos, dress, religion and language to separate themselves from other tribes. altho they were all essentially the same: living in the same area and making their living the same way (farming, sheep herding etc). Jews also did this, but added a special feature: They were BETTER THAN everybody else, and they had a very strong oral and written tradition.

Apparently, you're only a Jew if your mother was a Jew, at least, to some Jews. And being an exclusive group, they don'y generally go around trying to bring outsiders into their group i.e. they're not a proselytizing relgion like, say, Christians, who went aroudn trying to convert people. And many Jews never truly assimilate; they still think of themselves as Jews first and Americans second. They have been the tail wagging the American dog for a long time. (Just look at our Cabinet and how manu are AIPAC members).

What did Blinken say to Israel? "I speak as a Jew"?

Me I have openly told how I HATE islam, if you read its texts you will be it was founded by a killer a madman, pedophile and a bandit and a terrorist who molested kids and took slaves, he was a very sick degenerate sexually perverted criminal who founded a religion andengaged in terror
that is not to say all muslims are terrorists because some of them can have a good quality despite having such a religion of filth and terror
I am mostly against war, perhaps if under attack then of course defense is justified.

Tyrant and Dictator and religion lunatic and War has its victims
Not every Communist was evil, some were just people going about their lives, the same for the kids in Fascist Nazi Germany or the little Japanese in Imperial Fascist Japan, not all of them were part of the 'Regime or Imperial Empire or Reich' they just happened to be inside it all but maybe not by choice.

As for the SixString quote

Biden Urges Americans Not To Let Dangerous Online Rhetoric Humanize Palestinians

WASHINGTON—Upon returning from his brief diplomatic trip to the Middle East, President Joe Biden urged the nation Thursday not to let dangerous online rhetoric humanize Palestinians. “As the war between Israel and Hamas rages on, I urge my fellow Americans to remain vigilant, and not fall for any false propaganda that claims people living in Gaza and the West Bank are worthy of human life,” said the 46th president, adding that since the war had begun, U.S. intelligence had discovered countless bad actors flooding the internet with reports that many Palestinians were mothers, fathers, and children who were not terrorists and did not deserve to be trapped without food, water, or fuel while being carpet-bombed into submission. “If you hear a Palestinian being described with terminology like ‘son,’ ‘daughter,’ or ‘in desperate need of medical attention,’ then you should be aware that what you are reading has been specifically designed to stoke empathy.” At press time, Biden added that Americans should also avoid dangerous propaganda that wrongly asserts the billions of dollars in military aid the United States has sent to Israel could be spent on things like healthcare, education, or alleviating poverty at home.

After Weighing the Evidence, Israel Appears Responsible for the Bombing of the Al-AHLI Hospital

20 October 2023 by Larry Johnson 28 Comments
Al-Ahli Hospital Parking area

I don’t think this post will make anyone happy and will certainly stir up criticism. I have been looking at the photographic evidence and listening to the audio of the missile impact/blast. Please understand that I am neither anti-Israel or pro-Israel. Ditto for Palestinians. Put me in the category of someone who thinks the Israelis and Palestinians deserve a chance to live in peace and security and should not be killing or oppressing each other.

I am now ready to offer my opinion. I believe the hospital parking area was struck by an Israeli munition, most likely a Hellfire launched from a drone. A friend with expertise in this area passed this on:

An MQ-9 carrying thermobaric versions of the hellfire missile (something we’ve supplied to Israel) is very possible. That particular version of the missile (AGM-114N) provides a particularly nasty thermobaric/incendiary blast that was originally designed to be skipped/or detonated at the mouth of a cave opening and burn out all the oxygen (suffocating the inhabitants further down the tunnel). My leading theory? Israel might have thought there was a Hamas tunnel system in the area and was taking a shot. That impact crater fits.

Why do I dismiss the charge that Hamas was responsible? Please look and listen to the footage of the blast:

I have searched the web and cannot find a single example of Hamas launching a weapon with this sound and blast signature against Israel during the past ten years. If you can find one, please let me know. I will stand corrected. The rockets Hamas routinely fires at Israel are not precision guided projectiles and they are not accelerating beyond the speed of gravity as they fall towards the earth with a great “Whooshing” sound. More importantly, the Hamas “warheads” are relatively small and have not caused mass casualties in Israel comparable to what was seen at Al-Ahli Hospital.

Some have suggested, wrongly, that it was an MK-84 bomb (a 2000 pound monster). Look at this and judge for yourself.

As you can see for yourself, any of the MK variants would have left an enormous crater in the parking lot. There is no big crater.

Israel did itself no favors yesterday (Thursday) in trying to distance itself from the Hospital bombing when it attacked part of the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Porphyrius, an important historical and religious landmark. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Israeli military confirmed it bombed the church. Hamas supporters merely point to the attack on Saint Porphyrius as more proof that this is Israel’s standard operating procedure. The church bomb killed 17, which included some children, and wounded dozens.

Israel justified the attack:

Explaining the damage done to the church, the IDF stressed that “Hamas intentionally embeds its assets in civilian areas and uses the residents of the Gaza Strip as human shields”.

Which raises an interesting point about double-standards. If Russia attacked a church in Ukraine and killed children, women and disabled people, it would be rightly condemned for committing a war crime. What galls the Arab and Muslim world is that there is no similar outcry from the West, especially America.

There is some good news. Groups of Jews and Palestinian supporters have joined together to protest the actions of Netanyahu’s Government. While these protests are small, it is a hopeful sign that Jews and Palestinians can come together a call for a peaceful solution. However, Israel is still pursuing a more “cowbell” strategy.

Then there is Ukraine. The delusion continues. Ray McGovern and I discuss the latest with Judge Napolitano:

GO HERE FOR LINKED VIDEO
https://sonar21.com/after-weighing-the-evidence-israel-appears-respons
ible-for-the-bombing-of-the-al-ahli-hospital
/

There is something to be said for what something sounds like. When I saw the Boston Marathon bombing, the thing that struck me was that it sounded like a "whooomp!" not a crack. Having heard a black powder gun, I assumed it was a black power explosion.

When the fortunes of the Left are rising, intersectionality seems like a juggernaut: identity groups get aggregated into the mass, internal conflicts are subordinated to the cause of liberation, and a policy of “no enemies to the left” shifts political life in favor of the radicals. But the aura of inevitability surrounding the intersectional coalition is an illusion; moments of crisis can bring suppressed contradictions to the surface and begin a process of fragmentation.

The recent Hamas terror campaign against Israel might become such a crisis. Following the attack, the foot soldiers of intersectionality—most notably, Black Lives Matter (BLM), the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), and the academic “decolonization” movement—celebrated the militants who murdered civilians, raped women, and butchered babies. BLM’s Chicago chapter published a graphic lionizing the Hamas paraglider terrorists who killed innocents. The DSA blamed Israel for the terror attack against it, arguing that it was the “direct result of Israel’s apartheid regime.” Ivy League professors with expertise in “decolonization” called it a “stunning victory” and said that “Palestinians have every right to resist through armed struggle.”

I'm going to love watching you destroy each other.

This was always the only inevitability.

Jordan’s King Abdullah: International law loses all value if it is implemented selectively

The relentless bombing campaign underway in Gaza as we speak is cruel and unconscionable — on every level.

It is collective punishment of a besieged and helpless people.

It is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.

It is a war crime.

I agree. We shouldn't be helping Ukraine either.

I invite the Good King to start his own war if he feels it necessary though.
