Little light, no beds, not enough anesthesia: A view from the ‘nightmare’ of Gaza’s hospitals

The only thing worse than the screams of a patient undergoing surgery without enough anesthesia are the terror-stricken faces of those awaiting their turn, a 51-year-old orthopedic surgeon says.

“These people are all terrified, and so am I,” the surgeon said.

Hospitals in the Gaza Strip are nearing collapse under the Israeli blockade that cut power and deliveries of food and other necessities to the territory. They lack clean water. They are running out of basic items for easing pain and preventing infections.

A shortage of orthopedic implants forced Abed to use screws that don’t fit his patients’ bones. There are not enough antibiotics, so he gives single pills rather than multiple courses to patients suffering terrible bacterial infections.

“We are doing what we can to stabilize the patients, to control the situation,” he said. “People are dying because of this.”

“It’s a nightmare. If more aid doesn’t come in, I fear we’ll get to the point where going to a hospital will do more harm than good.”

Watch: Pro-Palestinian Mob Shuts Down Minneapolis Street, Terrorizes Motorists
Monday, Oct 23, 2023 - 07:05 AM

If you were wondering why the pro-Palestinian protests in the US today are starting to look a lot like the BLM riots of 2020, it's probably because they are made up of the same people with the same political agenda. Minnesota has one of the most concentrated Muslim populations in the US, but it is also a well-known Democrat stronghold. Palestinian protests across the country are predominantly manned by far-left groups like Antifa seeking to attach themselves to minority issues as an excuse to wreak havoc. The political alliance is perhaps one of the most unhinged in recent memory, given that Muslim Sharia culture runs contrary to the majority of progressive "beliefs."

The protest tactic of blocking major traffic routes and then mobbing any vehicles that try to sneak past has been used by leftists regularly over the past few years. When people defend themselves by pushing through the mob, the protestors then claim they were "attacked" by the driver.

Protesters/rioters blocked the Irene Hixon Whitney Bridge that runs over I-94 in Loring Park on Sunday afternoon. A video posted by X user "Unicorn Riot" shows the mob deliberately blocked traffic while a white sedan was moving forward at slow speeds while being attacked by rioters.

Unicorn Riot claims the occupant in the white sedan was "an alleged counter-protester who drove into the crowd, possibly firing a gun or firecracker while driving away."

However, Unicorn Riot used the phrase "alleged counter-protester" as X user "End Wokeness" showed a video of the occupant as an elderly white man. The video shows the man attempting to flee the chaos produced directly by the rioters illegally shutting down the roadway.

Israel A 'Nuclear Wildcard' On 'Dangerous Road To Armageddon': Macgregor

Tucker Carlson sat down with Col. Douglas Macgregor (ret.), who laid out a disturbing scenario in which the United States could quickly be pulled into a direct conflict with Iran, Russia and China over Israel's anticipated response to the October 7 Hamas attack.

Carlson starts off highlighting Lindsey Graham, who vowed; "...if Hezbollah, which is a proxy of Iran, launches a massive attack on Israel, I consider that a threat to the... state of Israel, existential in nature. I will introduce a resolution [in] the United States Senate to allow military action by the United States in conjunction with Israel to knock Iran out of the Oil Business..."

In a lengthy statement, Obama again condemned the deadly attacks launched by the militant group Hamas on Oct. 7 in what he called an “unspeakable brutality.” While he maintained Israel had a right to defend itself against the attacks, he reiterated the need to abide by “international law.”

“But even as we support Israel, we should also be clear that how Israel prosecutes this fight against Hamas matters. In particular, it matters — as President Biden has repeatedly emphasized — that Israel’s military strategy abides by international law, including those laws that seek to avoid, to every extent possible, the death or suffering of civilian populations,” Obama wrote.

He said upholding international law is “vital for building alliances and shaping international opinion.” The former president emphasized that doing so is an “enormously difficult task,” noting that military operations “often put civilians at risk.”

Here is a comprehension test for Trumptards. What does the following sentence mean? "In particular, it matters — as President Biden has repeatedly emphasized — that Israel’s military strategy abides by international law, including those laws that seek to avoid, to every extent possible, the death or suffering of civilian populations."

I noticed in real time that poor white trash American soldiers in Vietnam could NOT comprehend the idea of not killing civilians. Really. They could NOT get the idea in their head. Was the Attack on the Israeli Rave An Horrific accident and Other Oddities

23 October 2023 by Larry Johnson 252 Comments

In trying to get people to think objectively about the Hamas 7 October attack on Israel and the subsequent Israeli retaliation, which Israel declares is a “war,” I have lost friends who are Jewish (as I mentioned previously) and been attacked as a “Jew” lover. Here is one message I deleted from the comments today:

Larry shooting off his mouth again in he is service of the Jews. Easy redneck cowboy. If you keep reading word ‘Terrorist enough , be careful you don’t look in the mirror. After careful evaluation, I now know you exactly do not know what you are talking about, or have set your task to misdirect people. Not very patriotic after all , I’m sure of it that the United States is destined to break up in the near future, because people like you will not prevail in this war against humanity.

Welcome to my world — I am simultaneously a Jew Hater and a Jew Lover. I will make it simple. I care about people and only reserve hate for specific persons who do evil to the innocent. I realize that emotions among Israelis, Jews and Palestinians are very raw and very hot and that attempts to have a reasonable, rational discussion is like trying to juggle whiffle balls in a hurricane. (For those unfamiliar with the term, “whiffle ball”, it is a plastic ball with holes, which makes it uncontrollable in hurricane force winds.) But I am going to keep trying.

There is a story circulating that the Hamas attack on the rave was not planned. It was macabre misfortune. Here’s a brief synopsis:

*****

There are some exceedingly strange things about the Supernova psytrance festival. Two days prior to the Hamas attack, the producer stated that the festival’s location was abruptly changed to this location after another location fell through.

As it works for raves like this, because it historically also meant massive illegal drug use, so to avoid police raids, party locations were passed by word of mouth at the last minute. Later, raves via social media was more like a flashmob thing. In keeping with the mystique of the early illegal drug-drenched dance parties, Supernova Sukkot Israel organizers advertised on Facebook and sold tickets in advance to the ‘Nova Tribe’ but kept the location entirely secret other than promising that it would be in some “pristine, virgin natural environment.”

It turned out to be on Re’im Kibbutz grounds. . . .

I don’t think that Hamas/al Qassam actually knew that a giant rave festival had abruptly sprung up literally overnight on a parcel of land that appears to have been planned as a Qassam paraglider landing zone for their raid located close to Re’im Kibbutz and the “invisible” Re’im military base that’s “near the kibbutz”, according to a note in Wikipedia, until their paraglider troops at the crack of dawn flew right into the dance party of over 1000 drugged up psytrancers out being one with nature.

What’s the Arabic for “Oh, shit”? Only the rave organizers, producers and ticket holders would have known where this last-minute secret location would have been. Having gone to the tunnels to start the operations, and not reliant on digital communications and the Internet, and since Hamas/Al Qassam forbid any of their fighters having and using cellphones on operations, it turned FUBAR at the rave really fast.

*****

This sounds credible. It does not mean that Hamas had no intention of killing members of the Re’im Kibbutz. It means that Hamas stumbled unexpectedly on a larger target than expected and carried out their attack as planned. While there were a few armed Israelis among the party goers, it still was an unlawful attack on civilians in my opinion. I broker no double standard on killing civilians. Israeli and Palestinian civilians are not combatants.

A good friend and supporter of sonar21 flagged the following video. I warn my Jewish friends who still talk to me that it will grate on your nerves a bit. However, Americans and Israelis need to pay attention. Mr. Werleman is making the same point I have been trying to get across — whatever military victory Israel can win on the ground in Gaza is being suffocated by the global reaction to the Palestinian casualties. The emerging coalition of Arab, Muslim, and Christian peoples around the world are rallying to the Palestinian cause in an unprecedented manner. In the aftermath of previous military engagements between the Palestinians and Israel, many in the Arab and Muslim nations remained indifferent or even hostile to the Palestinian people. That is not the case now.

This is history you can look up: My Lai massacre. It was NOT the only massacre, but it was the only one where there were Prizewinning Journalists around to write about it. Democrats opposed murdering civilians and Republicans enthusiastically praised murder.

Back in the 1960's there weren't Trumptards because Trump wasn't a politician, but America was an overflowing toilet full of proto-Trumptards blocking the drain. Those proto-Trumptards reacted to the My Lai Massacre by denying there was a massacre. They knew they lied, but didn't care. They still don't care. Back then, the proto-Trumptards believed the only good gook was a dead gook, much like Trumptards today believe the only good Muslim is a dead Muslim (see Gaza for examples of dead Muslims). Soldiers at My Lai who murdered civilians got pardoned by President Nixon because that's what the proto-Trumptards wanted.

What Trumptards are saying today about massacres in Gaza is much the same as what Republicans said about massacres in Vietnam. The Nixon-loving angry white trash of the 60's are the same kind as the Trumptards of today.

UN chief António Guterres condemned “clear violations of international law” in Gaza as the US added to mounting pressure on the Israeli government to pause its bombardment of the besieged coastal enclave and allow in more aid.

In his toughest remarks so far about the conduct of the war in the Gaza Strip, Guterres told the UN security council on Tuesday that the safety of civilians was paramount.

“Protecting civilians can never mean using them as human shields,” the secretary-general said, adding that it “does not mean ordering more than 1 million people to evacuate to the south, where there is no shelter, no food, no water, no medicine and no fuel, and then continuing to bomb the south itself”.

Guterres also said that the deadly assault by Palestinian militant group Hamas on southern Israel on October 7 “did not happen in a vacuum”.

“The Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation,” he added, though he said their grievances could not justify the “appalling attacks”.

His remarks triggered a furious response from Israel. Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, described Guterres’s comments as “shocking” and called on him to resign, while foreign minister Eli Cohen cancelled a meeting with the secretary-general in protest.

Meanwhile, the USA UNDER BIDEN* was the only nation in the security council to vote against a Gaza ceasefire. While some Dems were against Vietnam they have since become warhawks and neocons without boundaries.

This is not the State Department I know. That’s why I left my job.
By Josh Paul

Josh Paul is a former director in the State Department’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs.

For more than a decade, I worked in the State Department bureau responsible for arms transfers and security assistance to foreign governments. In that time, I was involved in many complex and morally challenging debates over what weapons to send where. What I had not seen until this month, however, was a complex and morally challenging transfer in the absence of a debate.

So last week, I resigned.

A basic premise of U.S. military assistance to Israel since the Oslo Accords has been “security for peace” — the notion that if Israel can feel secure, including through the provision of billions of dollars’ worth of U.S.-funded arms transfers each year, it can more readily make the concessions allowing for the emergence of a Palestinian state. (This is also the basic job of the U.S. Security Coordinator, a State Department initiative I worked for in Ramallah for a year.)

But the track record shows that U.S.-provided arms have not led Israel to peace. Rather, in the West Bank, they have facilitated the growth of a settlement infrastructure that now makes a Palestinian state increasingly unlikely, while in the densely populated Gaza Strip, bombings have inflicted mass trauma and casualties, contributing nothing to Israeli security.

On Oct. 7, when Hamas massacred Israeli civilians, I felt sick to my stomach, both because of the horror being visited upon innocents and because I knew what would come next. Israel has a right to defend itself, but the country’s track record over a half-dozen major clashes in the past 15 years suggests that thousands of Palestinian civilians will die in the process.

Sure enough, Israeli requests for munitions started arriving immediately, including for a variety of weapons that have no applicability to the current conflict. These requests deserved the attention we would pay to any large arms package, and I urged a frank discussion. My urging was met with silence — and the clear direction that we needed to move as fast as possible to meet Israel’s requests. Concurrently, the same Congress that had previously blocked arms sales to other regimes with questionable human rights records was now pressing us to move forward to meet Israel’s demands.

The idea that U.S. arms should not be used to kill civilians has never been a controversial one in any of the four administrations I have served, dating back to my work helping rebuild the Iraqi security sector in 2004-2006.

Earlier this year, the Biden White House supposedly strengthened protections against such occurrences. Its new Conventional Arms Transfer Policy establishes a standard that transfers will not be authorized if they are “more likely than not” to be used to violate human rights.

In August, the State Department notified all its embassies of a new Civilian Harm Incident Response Guidance (CHIRG), which lays out a set of actions to be taken after a report of civilian harm resulting from use of U.S.-origin weapons. The risk is obvious that American weapons provided to Israel, especially air-to-ground munitions, will inflict civilian harm and violate human rights. But the department was so adamant to avoid any debate on this risk, even the publication of a pending department release about the CHIRG was blocked.

This is, at least in my experience, an unprecedented unwillingness to consider the humanitarian consequences of our policy decisions.

Managing the tension between human rights concerns and the requests of our partners is a standard and healthy part of the arms transfer policymaking process. A lot of good people collaborate to ensure such transfers advance U.S. relationships while meeting the standards of law, policy and conscience. Debates typically rage within the bureau and across the State Department at a level of detail that I believe would make most Americans proud.

The motto of the arms trade cannot be “first, do no harm.” But there must be at least an effort to do as little harm as possible. The furious debates in the department over the provision of cluster munitions to Ukraine, for example, show that such discussion is possible even in the midst of a crisis.

The absence of a willingness to hold that debate when it comes to Israel is not proof of our commitment to Israel’s security. Rather, it is proof of our commitment to a policy that, the record shows, is a dead end — and proof of our willingness to abandon our values and turn a blind eye to the suffering of millions in Gaza when it is politically expedient.

That is not the State Department I know. And that is why I had to leave it.

Signym, I presume you know nothing about this nor do you know that Nixon dropped more tons of bombs on South Vietnam (not NORTH) than were dropped in all of WWII. Nixon only agreed to withdraw troops because Henry Kissinger convinced him that North Vietnam would never give up. Despite falsely optimistic claims by dishonest used car salesmen/generals in the Pentagon, Nixon knew that the US Army didn't have the stamina to fight long term. The Army was falling apart. A few more years in Vietnam would have ruined the US Army permanently, the same as what happened to the Confederate Army once its low-rank soldiers realized the North would never give up.

Very much like South Vietnam was never part of the peace talks.

Ronni Raygun's admin sabotaged the release of American hostages by Iran, and torpedoed Jimmy Carter's run for President.

That IMHO is "just" dirty Presidential politics. The overall result is that Ronnie Raygun proposed a reduction in strategic nuclear arms, and Nixon ended the Vietnam war. Not that either party is peace-making: the Contra death squads were running amok under Reagan (Ollie North), and Nixon (Kissinger) armed a number of tyrannical "anti-Communist" regimes that killed hundreds of thousands if not millions of people.

But at least they were practical people with an eye on the other major powers. What do we have now?? A bunch of delusional maniacs who think it's still 1990 and that America can do anything, ANYTHING... Destroy Russia! Contain China! Remake the Mideast! Regime-change anywhere! Print money like there's no tomorrow!

Blinken, Sullivan, a series of five- star yes-men, Nuland, Hillary, Biden* ... as well as McConnell, Graham, Romney, Rubio and a bunch of other GOP warhawks.

And AFA Israel and Iran, Trump is just as disturbed as the rest of them.

Few saints here, and even fewer in the stew that is DC.

Israel’s Military Tech Fetish Is a Failed Strategy | October 26, 2023, 7:15 AM

A fixation on technology created an illusion of safety—and an excuse to avoid hard choices.

By Franz-Stefan Gady, a senior fellow for cyber power and future conflict at the International Institute for Strategic Studies.

We are still in the early phase of Operation Swords of Iron, the name of the Israeli military response to the horrific Hamas-led massacre of more than 1,400 Israelis on Oct. 7. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has predicted a “long war.” Amid an intensifying aerial bombing campaign, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are gearing up for a large-scale ground invasion of densely populated Gaza. The IDF is expected to face stiff resistance on the ground by Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and other groups, which will try to leverage the urban terrain, civilian population, and vast labyrinth of underground tunnels—dubbed the Gaza metro—for asymmetric advantages in this fight.

The IDF, built around a system of universal conscription and reserve service, is considered one of the best militaries in the world. Its air force and special operations units are the envy of many a NATO general. A key element that makes the IDF a potent force is the United States’ long-standing commitment to maintaining the Israelis’ qualitative military superiority over potential adversaries by providing roughly $3.8 billion a year in military assistance. Coupled with the IDF’s lavish use of Israel’s thriving tech sector, this allows the IDF to field an expensive, high-tech military, including cutting-edge air and missile defense systems, stealth fighters, as well as advanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities.

Yet it may be exactly this IDF quest for high-tech superiority over low-tech adversaries, such as Hamas, that has clouded its vision. Not only did the IDF’s sense of technological superiority contribute to its failure to anticipate a sophisticated combined arms attack on Oct. 7, but it may also be a tactical disadvantage in the expected ground campaign in Gaza. This wouldn’t be the first time it has been a problem: Analysts have pointed out that a “cult of technology” contributed to the IDF’s poor performance in the 2006 Lebanon War.

The reasons the IDF’s high-tech focus can backfire are interrelated. First, at the level of strategy and politics, Israel’s trust in technological superiority helped policymakers and senior military officers fall victim to the illusion that there were no hard choices to be made in Israel’s military strategy. Second, overreliance on such technology at the tactical level contributed to a defensive mindset within the IDF that may have allowed important skills, such as the ability to conduct complex combined arms operations when attacking, to atrophy. These weaknesses in the IDF’s ability to attack have been identified by Israel’s defense community as an issue for many years, and the IDF is currently in the middle of a process of doctrinal and structural adaptation as it experiments with a new warfighting concept. This incomplete process makes the timing of the impending land campaign suboptimal, to say the least.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s strategic myopia and hubris that led him to be blindsided on Oct. 7 was enabled by the trust that the IDF and Israel’s other security services had in their technological sophistication. It did so by creating the sense that Israel could have its cake and eat it, too, without the need to make any trade-offs: It could strive for better relations with its Arab neighbors while convincing itself that it was managing and containing Hamas and its allies—avoiding any need to deal with the immediate military threats posed by highly motivated, disciplined, and increasingly technologically sophisticated nonstate adversaries in Gaza and southern Lebanon.

The best symbol of this attitude is the “smart” border fence, a barricade along the Gaza Strip 20 feet high, 40 miles long, and fitted with sophisticated sensors and remote-operated machine guns. The fence, also called the Iron Wall, led to the tragically mistaken belief that there was no need for large numbers of IDF boots on the ground to guard against intrusions, which permitted more IDF ground forces to be deployed to the West Bank and elsewhere—or not to be raised at all. This false sense of security was compounded by the belief that Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system, first introduced in 2011 and designed to intercept short-range rockets and artillery, would offer adequate protection against rocket and artillery attacks from Gaza and southern Lebanon in the event of a larger-scale conflict. Further cementing the belief that there were no longer hard strategic choices to make were Israel’s sophisticated ISR capabilities, which make Gaza, southern Lebanon, and the West Bank some of the most surveilled and watched swaths of lands in the world. This, the Israelis believed, would provide ample warning time to respond to any emerging military threat.

At the strategic level of political and military decision-making, the fixation on high tech had direct consequences for the character of IDF operations. For one thing, it helped shape a more defense-oriented tactical doctrine relying on firepower (primarily missile strikes from the air) rather than maneuvering ground forces to achieve military objectives. This doctrine is best expressed by the IDF’s strategy of “mowing the grass”—attacking the Hamas leadership and some of its military infrastructure to manage rather than eradicate the group. This strategy required only limited ground incursions into Gaza, the last of which took place in 2014.

One consequence of the “mowing the grass” strategy was that the IDF saw even less need to be ready for large-scale ground operations. As a result, the combined arms skills of its line units on the ground have declined in recent years. Instead of preparing for future wars, these units were busy policing the West Bank and protecting settlers.

In trying to remedy its over reliance on defensive tactics and limited attacks, the IDF is currently developing a new operating concept called Decisive Victory—which risks falling into the technological trap once again. Decisive Victory is built on the same sorts of premises as many new operational concepts of NATO militaries: multidomain, combined arms operations supported by artificial intelligence, where dispersed and more autonomous forces apply precision firepower to quickly defeat an adversary. This involves a combination of precision strikes from the air; smaller, more agile, and more rapidly deployable ground units; and the use of machine learning to help identify, track, and engage targets.

Decisive Victory, in short, is built on the premise that superior ISR capabilities paired with AI and smart munitions will increase the IDF’s combat effectiveness while reducing the size of the forces needed to effectively conduct military operations. As the Oct. 7 attack showed, however, if the technologies underlying your conception of warfare are destroyed or overwhelmed and you lack boots on the ground, over reliance on technology creates a single point of failure. Without traditional military assets such as larger-scale, rapidly deployable forces, the IDF risks having no Plan B to quickly respond to a dynamic attack or other fast-evolving military situations.

To be clear, the IDF has not yet implemented the new operating concept, in part because of delays in the five-year Tnufa program of military reforms initiated in 2020. Another reason is that the IDF is still testing and experimenting with its new operating concept.

For example, the IDF set up an experimental unit of special operations forces called Ghost to test some of the core tenets of Decisive Victory. (The unit’s commander was killed in combat on Oct. 7.) Elements of Decisive Victory can also be found across many other units within the IDF, and its tenets are certainly impacting operational planning for the upcoming ground invasion of Gaza.

What does the IDF’s continued fixation on high-tech solutions mean for an invasion of Gaza and beyond?

At the tactical level, the IDF never had the illusion that emerging technologies will make military conflict any less bloody or combat-intensive. As the IDF has acknowledged, casualties on both sides could be severe and the campaign protracted, despite the IDF’s preference for short and decisive operations. This could be compounded by the lack of combined arms training of both active and reserve units, with the exception of a number of elite formations.

Even if the IDF has shown itself to be highly adaptable to swiftly changing tactical situations in the past, going into battle right now could still prove risky. Its forces are in the middle of doctrinal and technological adaptation, premised on the belief of emerging technological capabilities such as AI. In practice, the half-abandonment of existing doctrine combined with only a rudimentary understanding of the new operating concept could lead to a marked increase in friction during IDF operations. This could degrade the impending offensive to little more than the familiar “mowing the grass” tactic but on a larger and more protracted scale. An overall victory could prove illusory.

At the political and more strategic level, the continued belief in qualitative military superiority based on superior technology could lead Israelis to be overly optimistic compared with the reality of the war. This could allow the Netanyahu government to muddle through despite the likely failure—at least for a while.

Funny how western media works. Even tho over seven thousand Palestinians have been killed by Israeli bombing (which maximizes damage over precision) and- given the demographics of Palestinian people- about 1000 are very young children. But you don't see pictures of THEM in western media, do you?

No videos of patients screaming as surgeons cut into them with insufficient anesthesia. Nothing of families without water crowding into UN Refuges. No obituaries of UN relief staff killed by Israeli bombs. That would just be too even-handed, wouldn't it? Not play well for Israel.

Wow! A Plan for Gaza to be Ethnically Cleansed. Hitler would be so proud of the Jews for applying the logic of his Final Solution to their enemies.

Hamas Attack Provides “Rare Opportunity” to Cleanse Gaza, Israeli Think Tank Says
By Jon Schwarz

The Misgav Institute for National Security & Zionist Strategy https://www.izs.org.il/ , an Israeli think tank, published a paper last week stating that thanks to the vicious Hamas attacks of October 7, “There is currently a unique and rare opportunity to evacuate the entire Gaza Strip.” https://drive.google.com/file/d/1e8ytZWVQyt1XncFPeDT9n1RoD_mZJRUk/view

The paper continues, “There is no doubt that in order for this plan to be enacted, many conditions need to exist in parallel. At the moment, these conditions exist, and it is unclear when such an opportunity will arise again, if at all.” Approximately 1,400 Israelis were killed during the initial assault.

The think tank advocates a bizarre scheme in which Israel would ethnically cleanse the entirety of Gaza and pay Egypt to house its former inhabitants in currently empty apartments near Cairo. (The paper was first reported and translated from Hebrew by Mondoweiss.)
https://mondoweiss.net/2023/10/israeli-think-tank-lays-out-a-blueprint
-for-the-complete-ethnic-cleansing-of-gaza
/

The Misgav Institute is headed by Meir Ben Shabbat. Ben Shabbat served four years as Israel’s chief of staff for national security after being appointed to the position in 2017 by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He previously was a senior official in Shin Bet, the approximate equivalent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the U.S. Other former top members of the Israeli government have also held prominent positions at the institute, as Mondoweiss explains.

/

This specific language — right-wing leaders enthusing about the “opportunity” that arises from massive suffering of their own people — is a kind of macabre universal following eruptions of ultraviolence.

On September 19, 2001, then-President George W. Bush proclaimed, “Through my tears, I see opportunity.” Several months later, Bush’s national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, explained, “[T]his is a period not just of grave danger, but of enormous opportunity. Before the clay is dry again, America and our friends and our allies must move decisively to take advantage of these new opportunities.” There were 2,977 people who died at the World Trade Center and Pentagon, and aboard United Airlines Flight 93.

Osama bin Laden also used language similar to that of the Misgav Institute — to describe the invasion of Iraq by the U.S. and its allies. In 2004, bin Laden said in an audio message, “Targeting America in Iraq in terms of economy and losses in life is a golden and unique opportunity. Do not waste it only to regret it later.” Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis were killed during the conflict.

For Netanyahu’s part, he spoke in 2002 of the “golden opportunity” presented by the Al Qaeda bombing of a hotel in Mombasa, Kenya. In that attack, 13 people were killed, including Israeli brothers Noy and Dvir Anter, ages 12 and 13. CNN reported at the time that “screaming children covered in blood searched desperately for their parents amid the wreckage.”

While he used different words, Netanyahu also saw a bright future on September 11, 2001, when he was working in the private sector after his first period as prime minister. Asked by the New York Times what the attacks meant for U.S.–Israeli relations, he responded, “It’s very good.” Netanyahu then walked back his first remarks, saying, “Well, not very good, but it will generate immediate sympathy.” At that moment, it was believed that far more people, about 20,000, had been killed at the World Trade Center than later turned out to be the case.

As this all demonstrates, while the deaths of regular human beings are an unmitigated catastrophe for them and their families, our leaders often see a silver lining in our pain — a chance to do what they had always wanted to but had not been able to before.

UN official warns 'hell is settling in' as it struggles with Gaza humanitarian crisis

Oct 26, 2023
The Gaza health ministry run by Hamas released 200-plus pages listing those killed since Israel began its retaliatory air campaign for the October 7 terror attacks. The list shows more than 7,000 dead with nearly 3,000 children. It's an apparent response to President Biden's remarks doubting the death toll.

US Warplanes Conduct Major Strikes On 'Iranian Proxies' In Syria
Thursday, Oct 26, 2023 - 07:25 PM

Update(22:25ET): In the overnight and early morning hours in Syria (local time), US forces carried out airstrikes on what it said are Iran-linked militants and installations in eastern Syria. Multiple targets have been hit.

According to a statement by Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, "Today, at President Biden’s direction, U.S. military forces conducted self-defense strikes on two facilities in eastern Syria used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and affiliated groups." The attacks were reportedly done by US warplanes, likely operating out of either the Gulf or Mediterranean areas where new US naval assets have recently been positioned, keeping a watch on fast moving events in Gaza. Fox issued the following breaking detail:

F-16s and F-15s were used to strike targets in Syria earlier tonight in retaliation for the attacks on US troops in the region.

Earlier in the day there were reports, though with few details, that US forces in the same northeast region of Syria came under attack, as has been happening in the last several days. The Pentagon had also earlier announced that over a dozen US troops in Iraq and Syria have suffered Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in the aftermath of drone and rocket attacks on US bases in the region.

"SELF DEFENSE"???

DOOD! We're illegally occupying Syria! I think the Syrians have a right to defend themselves against illegal occupation, don't you?

Apparently not!

The amount of blindness at that level of the military (and government) is breathtaking.

*****

Anyway, it looks like Syria is going to be our punching bag: We can't win in Ukraine, and we can't win against Iran directly, so we're going to beat up on Syria??

Out of all of the nations in the ME, SYRIA comes closest to being that "secular, democratically elected, stable" that we CLAIM to want to see. Assad isn't a tyrant, he's not a loony-tunes, he doesn't run terrorist organizations... in fact, he (and Russia) were the ones fighting ISIS and al Qaida (which the USA was funding and training, calling them "moderate rebels").

Makes as much sense as invading Iraq "bc of 911".

a) Iran had nothing to do with Hamas.
b) SYRIA has nothing to do with Hamas.
c) The USA is provoking Russia and China into getting involved.

Fuck a duck! Our Pentagon and State Dept and Capitol Hill are a bunch of war-mongering looney tunes. I suggested to hubby that some nutbag warmongers might be thinking that is an opportunity: "HEY! We get to attack Iran and Russia and China ALL IN THE SAME PLACE!" Gets rid of that whole "three front" war!

But THIS is why we have so much military in the area: Has nothing to do with Hamas, or Palestine, and everything to do with Syria, Iran, Russia, and China.

Russia and China supposedly have counseled great self-restraint for Syria, Iran, and Egypt. Not provide any excuse for a regional or world war, which we seem intent on provoking. But knowing how Russia and China and their partners usually react, I expect an asymmetric response.

Maybe an oil embargo by Saudi Arabia? Or possibly an embargo by China against the USA directly? A rejection of the American dollar?

Un-fucking-believable!

Israel and United States Are Taking a Diplomatic Pounding

26 October 2023 by Larry Johnson 289 Comments

One of the goals of diplomacy is to use a combination of words and deeds to win the support of other countries. You know you are doing a bang up diplomatic job when even your adversaries side with you. Conversely, when you start getting push back from countries you considered allies or business partners over what you say and do then your diplomacy sucks.

I mentioned Israel’s UN Ambassador, a Mr. Erdan, in my previous post. He is a passionate guy with an incredibly grating personality. You can tell he has never worked as a salesman in his life. His approach is best described as a bulldozer running on nitro fuel. And his biting, scathing presentations are alienating countries that Israel has counted on in the past — Jordan, Turkey and China to be precise. The following three videos are the metaphorical kick to Israel’s groin. If the people of Israel and the United States ignore what these three countries are saying they will be making a grievous error and will likely take actions that will worsen the crisis.

The guest was Bassem Youssef, a beloved, charming, and gut-splittingly hilarious Egyptian. His appearance on Piers Morgan did not disappoint. “These Palestinians are so dramatic: Ahh! The Israelis are killing us. But they never die. They always come back. They are very difficult to kill. I know because I’m married to one. I tried many times. Couldn’t kill her,” Youssef said dryly, not smiling. Morgan tried to empathize, saying he understood Youssef’s “dark humor.” But Youssef continued: “She uses our kids as human shields. I can never take her out.”

Pro-Palestine positions are often mischaracterized or maliciously written off as “pro-Hamas” — best exemplified by former Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s argument that “if the international media is objective, it serves Hamas. If it just shows both sides, it serves Hamas.”

The Lights Are Off. Here’s What We Know About Life and Death Inside Gaza.

In a chilling interview on this week’s “Deconstructed,” Ryan Grim speaks with Maram Al-Dada, who has been in regular touch with his family in Gaza as they’ve been killed one after the other.

KHAN YUNIS, GAZA - OCTOBER 26: This article was originally published as a newsletter from Ryan Grim.

Israel turned off the lights, cut the phone lines, and shut off the internet to Gaza on Friday night, plunging the region into darkness and isolation before launching a ground invasion. Only those inside know what’s happening there.

At the end of last week, I reached out to a source of mine from previous reporting, knowing that he was born and raised in Gaza, and I asked him how his family was managing in the face of the bombing campaign. He told me that so far, seven relatives on his father’s side, and 30 on his mother’s, had been killed. Those are numbers that we have no ability to comprehend. I told him that if he was able to, he was welcome to join our podcast, “Deconstructed” and tell their stories. After thinking about it for a few days, he decided to do it, and we spoke on Thursday evening, the night before he lost all contact with his family.

I first interviewed Maram for research I was doing for my new book on the Squad, the left, and their years-long fight with AIPAC over Israel–Palestine. That reporting turned into this feature published in the fall of 2022 on the distorting role of AIPAC and a related super PAC, Democratic Majority for Israel, in shaping and constraining the bounds of allowable discourse in Democratic primaries.

This week, that fight ratcheted up to unprecedented levels of animosity when nine Democrats voted against a resolution that condemned Hamas and defended Israel’s response, but which said nothing about Palestinian civilian lives lost. Democratic Rep. Josh Gottheimer, the Squad’s chief antagonist in the House, called them “despicable” in response. And President Joe Biden shockingly cast doubt on civilian casualty statistics put out by hospitals in Gaza because they run through the Ministry of Health, which is itself run by Hamas. In response, Hamas posted a public list of the names, ages, and ID numbers of 6,746 people who’ve died amid the bombing campaign. The list includes 2,664 children.

I’ve seen some people cast doubt on the reliability of the list, but Maram provided us a list of his relatives who’d been killed that was created before Hamas put its own data out, and those names all appear on the Ministry of Health list.
(We did find one duplicate on the list, not a relative of Maram’s, a 14-year-old boy who appears twice on it. That’s why I say it’s a list of 6,746 people and not the number you’ve seen in public reporting, 6,747.) I asked Maram what he made of Biden’s dismissal of the accuracy of the numbers, and he said he agreed with Biden, but in the other direction: It’s not possible that the hospitals are capturing the extent of the slaughter, he said, because many of the people he knows who have died in bombings have not been able to get to a hospital or a morgue.

Deliberately leaving Palestinian lives out of a congressional resolution, or suggesting that the numbers from Gaza can’t be trusted because Hamas runs the Ministry of Health, rigs those numbers. In fact, it likely makes the situation on the ground considerably worse, giving the IDF a sense of impunity that comes from dismissing the deaths as a Hamas conspiracy or fake news.

You can find my interview with Maram at this link

nterview
/ or anywhere you listen to podcasts — just search for “Deconstructed.” And please share with anybody you think does not yet grasp the scale of what’s happening. It can’t stay hidden forever. Below is a brief excerpt of our conversation.

Maram Al-Dada: It’s a total of 46. Yesterday, when you texted me about this interview, my uncle’s house was bombed. My aunt’s house was bombed. My cousin’s house was bombed. I mean, yesterday, it was a very tough time. We really thought, like, that’s it. The whole family will go.

Ryan Grim: I saw news of Khan Yunis being bombed over the last couple of days and I thought of you and your family each time.

Maram Al-Dada: I mean, I was talking to my uncle when I was trying to get him to join this interview. He was telling me like, “We will die in this war, like all of us will die, but we don’t know when.” … I mean, I’ll tell you a little story. Yesterday, I was calling him, I was talking to him. He goes like, today, a bomb fell in our street. A guy’s leg was cut off in front of everyone and we were trying to just help him, waiting for an ambulance and there was just no ambulance. There’s no, no 911, ambulance. The healthcare system’s collapsed and he just kept bleeding and people just, at the end, just put him in a car and they just drove him away trying to take him to the hospital. I don’t know what happened after that.

And then another story: He goes, “There’s no food.” My cousin, my cousin called, my aunt called my uncle, she goes – that was before their house was bombed – she goes, “Do you have food? Do you have any bread?” And he said, “Let me try to see who has bread. We don’t have any.” So they tried calling around and they found there’s one little bakery in our town that still has bread, and they called and were like, “Can you please keep a bag of bread for us?”

So he called my aunt back and he goes like, “Oh, ask Ahmed, my cousin, to go and pick it up.” Ahmed calls my uncle back, and I was with him on the phone, and he tells him, “I can’t go, I can’t leave, it’s the street.” Our street, called Gamal Abdel Nasser, you can go check it out, that street is just blocked because the buildings are collapsed. “I can’t just cross to the other side.” So I was like, wow, so it’s just a slow death, just waiting to die. There’s no food, they get water now four hours a day, no electricity. It’s horrifying. What’s happening is literally slow death.

Of course, we'll never see the Palestinian tragedy on western media. But the Israel one will be played over and over...

FOUR carrier groups for Gaza???
Even one would be overkill!
What are they planning to do? Start WWIII?

It's beyond strange. Maybe they're thinking ... well, we can't win a land war, but we have all of these Navy ships just hanging about... maybe we should send them off on some photo op "mission"?
Then we could say that we "intimidated" Iran/ Russia/ Hezbollah/ (fill in the blank) from "doing anything" with our mighty warships?
Or maybe we really DO intend to fire on Syria/ Iran/ Hezbollah and provoke a regional war?
I dunno. Those people in State Dept, WH and Pentagon are just nucking futs and likely to do any stupid thing. Look at our recent history.

The World Has Never Cared About Gaza’s Suffering
By Ahmed Nehad / October 27, 2023

https://www.thenation.com/article/world/the-world-has-never-cared-abou
t-gazas-suffering
/

Gaza is being obliterated, and no global power is doing anything to stop it.

On October 6, blood, pain, and suffering in Palestine were of no interest to the world. They were too mundane, too “normal” to be acknowledged. Never mind that “normal” meant a Gaza that had been smothered by a 17-year Israeli blockade and a 56-year occupation. Never mind that it meant a Gaza where Israeli military invasions had become almost routine; with civilians laid to rest after every attack, and with entire neighborhoods leveled — tens of thousands of homes, mosques, churches, hospitals, cultural centers, and educational institutions crumbling to rubble every couple of years.

In Gaza, “normal” was the meager four to 12 hours of electricity a day. Hospitals had become destinations of last resort because, in this “normal,” there were just 1.4 beds for every thousand residents.

It was “normal” for families to starve, for essential medicines to run out, for graduates to stare at bleak futures, and for the vast majority to survive on mere aid.

Yet, this “normal”’ had long been met with a deafening global silence. This “normal” went unnoticed, a mere backdrop to world politics, seldom worth more than a passing remark.

Until recently. Until October 7. When Israeli civilians were killed, the world sat upright. They took note, they discussed, they condemned. They saw the horror of blood spilled in historic Palestine. Conversations about Palestine became mainstream only when the blood took on a different hue.

The very same world that had remained nonchalant about the everyday horrors in Gaza and in all of occupied Palestine was now interested and invested.

Twenty days on, the Gaza Strip has borne the brunt of over 12,000 tons of explosives. This translates to an average of 33 tons of explosives for every square kilometre of Gaza since October 7.

Israel has slaughtered around 6,000 Palestinians, including more than 2,300 children, with over 1,500 people still under the rubble. It has injured more than 16,000 children and women and men left to teeter on the edge of life, with almost no hospitals left to seek treatment, and almost no treatments available if they do manage to get to a hospital.

Israeli bombs have demolished residential blocks, including my own. My home, like so many thousands of others, stands no more. Around 1.4 million Gazans have been displaced. Gaza is being obliterated, and no global power is doing anything to stop it.

For the past 20 days, the world has appeared fixated on one haunting question. It has seemingly resolved that the answer is to obliterate Gaza from the map. But one question lingers globally: How do we do it? How do we annihilate Gaza?

Israel, in both its political rhetoric and military posturing, has made no secret of its ambition to wipe the Gaza Strip off the face of the earth and to subdue the “human animals” that call it home. But as they advance this genocidal agenda, politicians, A-list celebrities, and Western figureheads don’t just nod in agreement — they offer full support to help them achieve it.

In the United States, Joe Biden passes the hat around Congress, collecting loose change amounting to billions of dollars, all earmarked for Israel’s “Gaza Genocide project.” Even Japan, half a world away, sidles up to the Security Council to cast its vote against halting the Gaza genocide.

The Arab leadership, in a masterstroke of duplicity, has voiced their support for Palestine, decrying any suggestions of ousting them from Gaza to the Sinai. A mass expulsion to the Negev, though, seems more palatable. Egypt, always the loyal neighbor to the besieged Gaza Strip, has generously offered the Gazans a menu of coffins with a side of, well, almost nothing but some Covid equipment.

No one has proposed that Gaza should not be wiped out.

Standing as the voice for my kin, comrades, and the denizens of Gaza, I table a most modest proposal: Institute a cease-fire. This isn’t a plea to end the genocide in Gaza. Instead, I present a method, more economical, less chaotic, and exponentially more effective. Cease the aerial onslaught and destruction.

We, the people of Gaza, will take it from here.

We will recover our dead from beneath the debris, knowing that even with aid, thousands more are destined to perish. Grief will consume many in the wake of lost homes, cherished memories, and shattered dreams. Epidemics of ancient diseases will claim lives amid the ruins of our graveyard of a city. Others will suffer from the aftereffects of the lethal gases and chemicals from phosphorus bombs, missiles, and other arsenals — weaponry Israel is conveniently field-testing in Gaza for its future endeavors.

Some will return to their semi-standing homes, seeking solace but finding death as the weakened structures collapse. Numerous others, surrounded by this overwhelming death, will surrender to the despair and take their own lives.

A mere handful might endure, conveniently turning into subjects of study for Western academia who seek to soothe their consciences by championing justice from the safe confines of their ivory towers, having borne witness to our annihilation.

A cease-fire. Now. Grant us the luxury of one last hug. Our end is nigh, rest assured.

Top Norwegian politicians on both the right and left sharpened their tone towards Israel on Saturday, deploring its ongoing attacks on Gaza and its civilian population. As demonstrations against the attacks took place around Norway, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said Israel is “going too far,” while the Conservatives’ leader of the foreign affairs and defense committee in Parliament, Ine Eriksen Soreide, thinks Israel is now breaking the rules of war.

The right to self-defense falls under the international rule of law.

“These rules are being broken now,” Søreide said, “and (Israel’s) massive blockade of Gaza, which is hindering humanitarian aid, is a violation of the rule of law.” Eide fully agrees, stressing that there’s “a clear line between the military and civilians in a war.”

The US applied pressure on Israel to restore connectivity in Gaza after phone and internet service were badly disrupted late last week, according to a senior US official.

The near-total blackout – which left civilians, aid groups and journalists struggling to communicate with the outside world – came amid heavy Israeli bombardment of the enclave. Service appeared to be gradually restored Sunday.

Speaking to MSNBC on Sunday, Sullivan underscored the importance of communications networks in Gaza, saying, “We do feel strongly that the restoration of that communications was a critical thing.”

“Because aid workers need to be able to communicate, civilians need to be able to communicate, and of course, journalists need to be able to document what is happening in Gaza to report it to the wider world,” he said.

The assault on Gaza has left thousands of Palestinian civilians dead and worsened the humanitarian crisis in the enclave. Aid has been slow to enter, and civilians, including hundreds of Americans, have been unable to leave.

GAZA: 3,195 Children Killed in Three Weeks Surpasses Annual Number of Children Killed in Conflict Zones since 2019

RAMALLAH, (Oct. 29, 2023)—The number of children reported killed in Gaza in just three weeks has surpassed the annual number of children killed across the world's conflict zones since 2019, Save the Children said.

Since October 7, more than 3,257 children have been reported killed, including at least 3,195 in Gaza, 33 in the West Bank, and 29 in Israel, according to the Ministries of Health in Gaza and Israel respectively. The number of children reported killed in just three weeks in Gaza is more than the number killed in armed conflict globally—across more than 20 countries—over the course of a whole year, for the last three years.

Children make up more than 40% of the 7,703 people killed in Gaza, and more than a third of all fatalities across the occupied Palestinian territory and Israel. With a further 1,000 children reported missing in Gaza assumed buried under the rubble, the death toll is likely much higher.

They're not a religion. They're a dangerous cult full of murderous, suicidal lunatics.

If they were a Jonestown cult, I'd tell the world to just step back and let them drink the Kool Aid. But they're not. They want to take anybody else out that they can in the name of their diseased "God".

The Muslim "religion" needs to be eradicated off the face of the earth.

That's stupid, SIX. The vast majority of Muslims are NOT "murderous, suicidal lunatics". Mostly, those lunatics are Saudi-educated wahhabists.

Malaysia is a primarily Muslim country. So is Indonesia. Are THEY murderous suicidal maniacs? Iran is not an Arab state, they're Persian, speak Farsi and are damn proud about it. Turkey is not an Arab state, they're Turkic. If they have a fault it's their desire to restore the Ottoman Empire. Lebanon has a number of religions. Libya was a secular state. Syria is a secular state. Even Palestine is about 10 Christian.
Yes, there are lunatic Muslims... mostly in the Caucuses, Afghanistan, and Saudi-influenced terrorist groups (all of which we supported in our war against Russia, BTW) but not everyone everywhere.

Now, let's take a look at Israel. Netanyahu just called Palestinians "Amelek", a Biblical reference to an ancient enemy of the Jewish tribe.

This is what THE BIBLE says about the Amelek:

"Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys."

and...

"Remember what Amalek did to you on the way as you were coming out of Egypt, 18 how he met you on the way and attacked your rear ranks, all the stragglers at your rear, when you were tired and weary; and he did not fear God. 19 Therefore it shall be, when the Lord your God has given you rest from your enemies all around, in the land which the Lord your God is giving you to possess as an inheritance, that you will blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. You shall not forget."

Bloodthirsty much?

So, in addition to thinking of themselves as "God's Chosen People" (and everyone else as "goy") God Himself has given Jews license to wipe their enemies ... whoeverthey happen to be... off the face of the earth.

Do I think ALL Jews are bloodthirsty religious lunatics?
No,but some of them are.

Then where did you get your ideas from?

You think Zionists just influence the M$M? How quaint! Hon, there is pervasive censorship on the whole Palestinian question across the entire info- and influence -sphere!

There are VERY active Zionist groups in every media sphere. Internet alt sites, Hollywood (yanno, Arabs are stock "bad guys" in film, videogames, TV shows etc), social media. For example, during the "Arab Spring", in the west widely painted as a groundswell longing for "democracy", half the tweets propelling it forward originated in Israel! And the bias goes all the way back to the 1940s. Pro-Jewish bias is as strong as anti-Russian bias.

Its one thing that left, right, most Dems, Republicans, in-betweenets all agree on: Muslims are Bad Guys....

I think religion of any form is a scam designed to prey on people's weaknesses. That's not to say that I don't believe there is a god, but the organized religions of the world are about making money off of suckers or in some cases something possibly even more nefarious than that.

I'm no fan of Jews as a group, and I am quite resistant to any pro-Jew propaganda out there, while also being well aware of their pervasive influence on the minds of the masses.

But the Muslims never once call out the bad actors.

There's not a single other religion on the planet that has its members strapping themselves up with bombs or airplanes full of hostages they're about to kill in the name of their diseased gods.

They are barbaric sub-humans, and we let a whole bunch of them into our country.

The only thing that is going to change your mind apparently is when they start the bombing in our borders again.

It's not a matter of if they do it. Only when.

I didn't change my mind when 9-11 happened. I doubt I will change it now.

There's a difference between the issue of Palestine v brain-dead religious whack jobs. You can be FOR a Palestinian homeland and be AGAINST terrorism...for any purpose, by anyone (including Wahhabists, neocons, rabid Zionists, and religious fundamentalists or nationalists of all stripes.) They weren't. They were Jews. In facts, Israel had so much to gain from 9-11 I can't help but think Mossad had a hand in it.

Yeah, well the FBI said it was "investigating" Trump for colluding with Russia, and that the Hunter Biden laptop was disinfo. Heck, I remember after the anthrax letters they were turning over every rock and twig in the Muslim community in Orange County, in a totally misdirected effort to find the sender.

Not that they're necessarily wrong, but they might not be right either.

In any case, I don't feel personally threatened and you should even less so. And if the USA had another terror attack I wouldn't be shocked or panicked, as so many were on 9-12. It would be - or should be- semi-expected by now. And instead of being stampeded into destroying two utterly uninvolved nations- like we did last time- we should ID the perps, try them, and punish the guilty.

Anything else is just stupid.

BTW, I'm personally more concerned about regular crime, inflation, illegal migrants, and overall debt.

"WE" shouldn't do anything.

The way I look at it, it's two factions of people I have no love for that are half a world away that can take care of each other all they want to.

I just happen to favor one side over the other is all, and I really would rather not see that side lose since they're the only people with balls enough to fight the other side in current year.

When the Muslim shitbag terrorists do their thing here again, it's not going to be me in the middle of a big Democrat run shithole city or on a plane where it happens. It will be some rich white people who are getting their college loans paid off by the Biden* regime.

I won't shed any tears when that happens either.

6ix, you are foaming at the mouth. So are the Israelis:

Israeli officials try to justify mass civilian casualties in Gaza by comparing it to the destruction of Hiroshima

It became evident to U.S. officials that Israeli leaders believed mass civilian casualties were an acceptable price in the military campaign. In private conversations with American counterparts, Israeli officials referred to how the United States and other allied powers resorted to devastating bombings in Germany and Japan during World War II — including the dropping of the two atomic warheads in Hiroshima and Nagasaki — to try to defeat those countries.

Last night a colleague sent me a gracious message, wishing for the safe return of the hostages and expressing disgust over the antisemites in my comment section. I wanted to share my reply:

You have no idea how much this means to me.

I’ve just been shaking with anger after an exchange with the latest antisemite to email me. After I asked her whether she really wished for my family and friends in Israel to be murdered, she said that if I “read a fucking book that’s not about computers,” I would understand that “violence is the language of the oppressed.”

The experience of the last few weeks has radicalized me like nothing else in life. I’m not the same person as I was in September. My priorities are not the same. 48% of Americans aged 18-24 now say that they sympathize with Hamas more than Israel. Not with the Palestinian people, with Hamas. That’s nearly half of the next generation of my own country that might want me and my loved ones to be slaughtered. (“A large majority of voters side with Israel in the conflict and identify Hamas as a terrorist group” Page 42 of 66 at

)

I feel like the last thread connecting me to my previous life are the people like you, who write to me with kindness and understanding, and who make me think: there are Gentiles who would’ve hidden me under the floorboards when the SS showed up.

Be well.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author who signed letter calling for ceasefire in Gaza has event moved from Houston synagogue

It was the second time in less than two weeks that a Jewish organization scrapped an event featuring Viet Thanh Nguyen, who was among 750 artists and writers in North America and Europe who signed an open letter that expressed criticism of Israel.

“At this remarkably sensitive time in our community, it did not seem to be appropriate to have this Inprint program at Emanu El,” Fredi Bleeker Franks, the executive director of the synagogue, said in a statement Tuesday to Houston Public Media.

What is in that letter? This:

"We can only express our grief and heartbreak for the victims of these most recent tragedies, and for their families, both Palestinians and Israelis," the letter reads. "Nothing can retrieve what has already been lost. But the unprecedented and indiscriminate violence that is still escalating against the 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza, with the financial and political support of Western powers, can and must be brought to an end. By cutting off vital electricity, food and water supplies; by attempting to displace by force over 1 million Palestinians from their homes, with no guarantee of return; and by carrying out continual airstrikes against civilians, including those who are attempting to evacuate, the state of Israel is committing grave crimes against humanity. Its allies, our own governments, are complicit in these crimes."

BTW, I'm personally more concerned about regular crime, inflation, illegal migrants, and overall debt.

No I'm not.

It's the same I don't give a fuck attitude that I have over Ukraine.

I've had to listen to your bullshit about how Russia was going to nuke us for years now.

Get fucked.

I guess you have never understood the difference between a liar and a truthful person.

Liars say that Trump won in 2020 and will win in 2024. The liars let their imaginations take over their mouths.

Liars say that Russia will nuke anybody sending weapons to Ukraine. That hasn't happened despite Russians repeating that lie since the first load of ammo was delivered. By now, millions of pounds of ammo have been delivered, but still no nuke. The liars let their imaginations take over their mouths.

And liars are saying they are not targeting women and children in Gaza. Again, their mouths are speaking about an imaginary and idealistically run military operation that is very different from the actual and extremely crude operation that Israel is conducting in reality.

You're a liar. But admittedly, that doesn't speak at all to my ability to spot one.

It's blatant and regular.
