Interesting article this: although as a personal addendum, I will also note that one other vector is how as I pointed out, bullying does not STOP at graduation, especially if tacticly encouraged - no, they just seek out positions of power and authority with which to continue it.

So it trickles BOTH ways, up and down.

Trickle-down tyranny - why ordinary people in positions of local power are adopting tactics of tyrants

Quote:

These random acts of tyranny aren't really random acts at all. They are the infantile acting-out of behaviors the childish American public has witnessed being demonstrated by their "leaders." The TSA sexually molesting air travelers isn't just a violation of fundamental human rights -- it's also a demonstration to the mindless masses that this is now "normal" behavior in society, you see.

Gawd, what an astute observation!

I watched all this with a sense of sadness and disgrace for the human race. And then a realization hit me like a sledgehammer...

People are only following by example
.....
Here's how this looks on the street: Your average city police officer is a wannabe tyrant who now, by watching the criminality of the federal government, feels he has permission to engage in the same tactics of intimidation and arrogance in ruling over the public (rather than serving to protect them). That's why so many big-city police officers have recently morphed into paramilitary jack-booted thugs; dressing in black, unlawfully arresting people for no justifiable reason, tasering innocent victims in wheelchairs, and generally acting out what is essentially a childish reflection of the very same tyranny they witness being demonstrated by high-level tyrants in Washington D.C.

So MUCH of that article is smack-bang right on target, yet it's something that never occurred to me; instead I have just been shaking my head and wondering "what's WRONG with us??" Many thanx, Frem; this helped me better understand what IS wrong with "us".

Oh indeed - I've tried (badly) to explain a little bit about how my morality works here, but I think one thing I DID manage to carry across is that sometimes I will do kind things for people...

Because I damn well please to.

Not for any personal gain, satisfaction, or even social expectation, but rather in that I have an opportunity to do something kind, something decent, something HUMANE, and simply seize the opportunity on whim alone and carry it through.
And sometimes I'll go pretty far with it too.

Sure, sometimes I do "nice" things as a slap in the face to a system that rewards sociopathy and punishes altruism, a kind of contrary spit in the eye to the darkness of our society and far less well-meant than the recipients ever realize, and being only human sometimes have ulterior motive as well - but sometimes, sometimes, just freakin BECAUSE, yanno ?

Not sure if I can explain the principle behind that - but it's linked in with what I feel is the true measure of a person, remove ALL consequence from their actions, good, bad or what have you - and then watch what they do.

And then you know who they really are.
