New Ron Paul Ad - BIG DOG: no mention of killing "Fed" Reserve Bank, IRS and income tax:

New Ron Paul ad vs Newt: No mention that Newt resigned from Congress to avoid arrest and prison:

Quote:

Eighty-four ethics charges were filed against Speaker Gingrich during his term, including claiming tax-exempt status for a college course run for political purposes. Following an investigation by the House Ethics Committee Gingrich was sanctioned US$300,000.[65] Gingrich acknowledged in January 1997 that "In my name and over my signature, inaccurate, incomplete and unreliable statements were given to the committee". [66] The House Ethics Committee concluded that inaccurate information supplied to investigators represented "intentional or ... reckless" disregard of House rules.[67] Special Counsel James M. Cole concluded that Gingrich violated federal tax law and had lied to the ethics panel in an effort to force the committee to dismiss the complaint against him. The full committee panel did not agree whether tax law had been violated[68] and left that issue up to the IRS.[69] In 1999, the IRS cleared the organizations connected with the "Renewing American Civilization" courses under investigation for possible tax violations.[70][71]

n the summer of 1997 several House Republicans, who saw Gingrich's public image as a liability, attempted to replace him as Speaker. The attempted "coup" began July 9 with a meeting of Republican conference chairman John Boehner of Ohio and Republican leadership chairman Bill Paxon of New York. According to their plan, House Majority Leader Dick Armey, House Majority Whip Tom DeLay, Boehner and Paxon were to present Gingrich with an ultimatum: resign, or be voted out. However, Armey balked at the proposal to make Paxon the new Speaker, and told his chief of staff to warn Gingrich about the attempted coup.[72]

Republicans lost five seats in the House in the 1998 elections—the worst midterm performance in 64 years for a party that didn't hold the presidency. Polls showed that Gingrich and the Republican Party's attempt to remove President Clinton from office was deeply unpopular among voters.[74] Gingrich suffered much of the blame for the election loss. Facing a rebellion in the Republican caucus, he announced on November 5, 1998 that he would not only stand down as Speaker, but would leave the House as well. Gingrich made this announcement only a day after being elected to an 11th term from his district. Commenting on his departure, Gingrich said, "I'm willing to lead but I'm not willing to preside over people who are cannibals. My only fear would be that if I tried to stay, it would just overshadow whoever my successor is."[75]

I'm saddened to see that Ron Paul has stooped to negative campaigning. Feels so dirty-politiciany.

But on the other hand, the big dog ad ROCKS. :)

Lots of people are trying to get as far from Newt as fast as possible. Jon Huntsman is getting lots more air time, and being asked serious questions. Ron Paul is being openly talked about as a possible contender.

Would be neat to see Huntsman get some traction. I wouldn't vote for him because I don't agree with most of his politics, but by gawd, he's the only adult in the room, far as I can see...which is probably why he got no traction.

I sincerely HOPE it's Gingrich...will be riotously fun election if so. Romney's boring, and just about anyone else (except Huntsman) hasn't a chance in a debate or an election. If Newt gets it, I admit it'll be fun to see all those self-righteous ultra righties who have pushed the slate SO far right go out of their minds when they really find OUT about Newt. Months of giggles ahead...

Mostly, I wish we could put someone up to challenge Obama...someone worthwhile, that is, not the other side of the idiotic Republican slate.

I understand now why all the VIABLE candidates on the right bowed out. Better to wait for 2016 than have to deal with the current mentality, where they wouldn't have a chance anyway against all the "I'm more right than you!" idiocy. More power to 'em.

Ah-HAH! I found a pundit who "gets it"...and on a Republican website, no less!
Quote:

Two Candidates and Seven Clowns: How Did This Happen to the GOP?
.....
Why is this year’s Republican presidential field so, well, weird? While each election year field is subject to its own particular constraints and quirks of history, today’s wacky Republican field is also the undeniable product of two long-brewing trends within the party. First, GOP elites have become ruthlessly efficient at winnowing the field of serious contenders. At the same time, however, the growth of the market for conservative books, television shows, and speaking engagements has made a presidential run a good brand-builder for those not seriously seeking to be president but eager to exploit that market.
....
There’s been a marked increase in fringe candidates who are “running for president” for reasons other than actually attempting to obtain the Republican nomination. There have always been ideological minorities who used the process to press their views or issues, with Ron Paul and Gary Johnson just the latest version of that. But what’s relatively new, and is now apparently more attractive, is using the presidential race as a way to create or build one’s brand in the conservative marketplace—what Jonathan Chait calls “business plan” candidates. Their incentive is to stake out the most extreme positions and court controversy in order to get themselves noticed by the most partisan customers of conservative books, talk shows, and other products, instead of developing carefully constructed issue positions designed to build party-wide support; their role model is Ann Coulter, not Ronald Reagan or Bob Dole.

We’ve seen these types before in both political parties (Alan Keyes, Al Sharpton, and perhaps Rudy Giuliani), but now the GOP field is lousy with them, from Newt Gingrich to Rick Santorum to Michele Bachmann to the man of the hour, Herman Cain. Of course, some of these “candidates” may think of themselves as serious contenders or, perhaps, ideological crusaders. But their behavior reveals them to be more concerned with selling books or getting a syndicated radio show.

So is this new kind of presidential field—one or two serious contenders, a lot of goofballs—here to stay? My guess is that Republicans will be dealing with this situation for many elections to come. Winnowing early among serious candidates is generally thought to be good for the party; it’s not clear why party actors or insiders would want to end that trend. And I suspect that the combination of cable television—always thirsty for presidential campaign news, even if it has to settle for fourth-tier candidates—and online campaigning and fundraising has lowered the costs of entry and increased the rewards for “business plan” candidates. http://www.tnr.com/article/politics/96413/gop-primaries-field-business

from all the way back in October.

How many of the GOP's long-established "brains" are grinding their teeth at this year's candidates? I hear it almost every night, and I admit I've gotten to feel kind of sorry for them. Both parties' bosses are used to manipulating the process, but this time something's happened which made it turn out perhaps not the way they expected.

Ron Paul did raise $6-million in campaign contributions in 1 day, a new world record.

But if his masters refuse to allow him to attend debates when invited, and refuse to mention his most important issues in TV ads...

In 2008 his faggot neocon campaign manager died of AIDS with $20-million in campaign funds unspent and missing.
