Hello,

The Catholic church is angry at nuns for failing to spread hate and intolerance, for trying to improve the lives of their flock, and for refusing to judge their fellow humans.

Meanwhile, this same church moved pedophile priests around like chess pieces to avoid prosecution while giving them new opportunities to violate their prey.

It must be a difficult time to be a Catholic.

Indeed. I will add that I think it is especially important to address the problems closest to you. Christianity is everywhere in this country and it is showing itself to harbor an unfortunate tendency towards intolerance. This is a trend we all need to strive to reverse, because we don't want our religious people to become like the so-called 'barbarians' we abhor in other states. Unfortunately, I feel like some churches in our country are on a race to represent the worst of mankind's nature. If we don't draw the line here and now, some of our small-minded citizenry will find that they have nothing to sneer at in regards to the unfortunate actions of foreign nations.

Those who argue about the different potentials for violence and discrimination in Christianity versus Islam forget the important lesson that it is HUMAN BEINGS who bring this to the table, not this doctrine or that doctrine or this prophet and that prophet. These things can and will always be used as Humans desire to use it.

Indeed. I will add that I think it is especially important to address the problems closest to you.

Abso-friggin-lutely.

Muslim extremists pose very little direct threat to me or those I know, despite much fear-mongering that would have us believe otherwise. They also are highly unlikely to be making any laws or policy decisions any time soon.

Chritian extremists DO hold a lot of power in this country, are consolidating more, and ARE very intent on creating a theocracy. I see that as a far more pressing problem for OUR country.

I agree with Anthony and Mark. As to Catholocism, it has always been the most rigid and power-hungry aspect of Christianity, and the most unwilling to change with the times. I agree, it must be difficult to be a THINKING Catholic in these times; it must also be difficult to be a thinking Evangelical Christian or Born-Again Christian for those who truly follow their faiths, to watch what those supposedly of the same faith are doing these days, per your other post. JUST as it must be difficult for true Muslims to see what those supposedly of THEIR faith do in the name of that faith.

Again why I hate organized religions; when you put people in power in anything, religion, politics, etc., the abuse of power is bound to result, and once power is attained, the desire to cement that power, to resist any attempt to lessen that power, is fought with every fiber of their being.

How do you propose we stop any of them? There is no organized group which is able to oppose the dictates of the Catholic Church, OR of the supposed "Christians" who are using their power in this country to attempt to rule the lives of others. And, when you mix religion with POWER in politics, you're really screwed. We are really screwed.

I think social pressure is the only real way to combat this kind of thing. This pressure should come from everywhere, but especially from those of us who consider ourselves Christian. It is harder to dismiss such people as pagans, and if they are to dismiss such people as heretics, they are then left the unfortunate task of explaining why Love and Acceptance are heretical concepts. That is an argument that I do not think they can win, and they will bleed believers.

Or such is my hope. It has happened before. A man once nailed a paper to a door, and it began to change things. Today we have the internet, an infinite supply of nails and paper, and more doors than can be counted.
