Saw similar add from the Food and Drug Administration.

Wierd, but more likely a budget issue. It could be a "let's provide funds for agency security", which they did. Then "use the money or lose it" and there's no govt agency yet invented that wants to lose any part of its budget.

I know some people love conspiracy stuff and this is good fodder for that, but the fact is if the govt wants ammo its never had any trouble buying it. There's no need to hide it...just tuck it into a Defense or Homeland Security budget request at the bottom of subsection/paragraph/chapter whatever on page gazzillion and three.

I saw a news article about the National Weather Service buying 40k rounds of .40 S&W and targets. But the address on the reply to request for proposal was for a NOAA office. NOAA is also responsible for fisheries enforcement. So, at least that makes a bit more sense.

Not sure who SSA would be associated with that would have a legitimate need for that much ammo.

What's the deal ? Obama coordinating a price hike, by stock piling bullets ? There seems to be no LEGITIMATE reason for this, and yet they're doing it.

SSA buildings have armed guards.

Mind you, I personally feel that if you feel the need to demand I leave my weapon in the car, you have a responsibility for my safety at that point, so having an armed guard on defense is about the only way I find such tolerable, okay ?

Anyhows, by law, the employer must provide the weapon and ammunition in most cases, or at least the ammo, in order to subvert liability by ensuring custom ammo isn't used.

Ergo you need a minimum of six bullets per guard, or more if the guard carries a speedloader or two, plus some reserve stock, and when you consider how many SSA offices that entails across the country, and how MANY guards that takes since rarely does a guard work seven days a week, that's quite a lot of bullets, yes.

So they buy in bulk, and of course any ammo past its sell-by date has to be removed from stock as well - mind that it's probably still good (and often useful for range training, since the rounds that don't fire can be helpful in training misfire drills) but general policy and liability issues require this.

So while looking at the number it looks odd up front, there's nothing scary about it.

To date, Romney has released ONE incomplete tax return, an "estimate" of another, and nothing else. But he says he's all good, and we should just accept that. No need to keep asking about it for the next four years the way the right have done with every scrap of paper regarding Obama's past.

I'd be fine with it...because I know his background. He's a lawyer and being one myself I know what he has to go through to get past the Bar's background check (I was interrogated for an hour over a speeding ticket during the character and fitness evaluation).

Likewise I know Romney's background. He's run for President twice in addition to a campaign or two for governor and an early attempt to unseat Ted Kennedy. His finances have been examined recently and at several points over the years. There have been no credible accusations made about his record for paying taxes.

I note for the record that a number of Obama appointees, White House employees, and at least one cabinet member have had trouble paying their taxes. Forgetful folks I guess...but they've got a lot on their minds.
