Okay, one more thought before I get back to work for now. Okay some of y'all think it's far out in center field, others might think left or right depending on where they are, but there's much more to life and even politics than this left-right continuum.

The following is unscientific, but I think more or less accurate nonetheless:

I agree with about 90% of what Frem says, and about 90% of what Geezer says, that implies that there is an overlap there of maybe 80% Okay, it's less so for the people more partisan, I agree with more like 75% of what Mike or Auraptor says, but let me put that in perspective.

I agree with no more than 20% of what Barack Obama and Mitt Romney say. I find Mitt Romney and Barack Obama seem to agree with each other about 75% of the time. So, a small % of things are things we probably all agree on, as humans, and those things aren't that much up to debate, we (almost all) like human rights, peace, a free market, healthcare, and a functional economy.

However, there's a large field of stuff that I disagree with the Obama-Romney agreement axis, stuff which is *never* up for debate because Romney and Obama don't disagree on them:

American empire: We should invade and capture other peoples of the world and take their resources.
Energy: The US needs to consume massive energy and exploit some form of fossil fuel.
Human rights: torture and indefinite untried imprisonment are fine, killing little people doesn't matter.
Economy: Govt sponsored corporations are the way to go, ie, Benito Mussolini was right.
Govt: Spending should be in the trillions, and an armed police state is the best civic model.
Healthcare: Govt. run mandates high cost corporate insurance programs of mainstream medicine are best.

Even when you get to the nitty gritty, they still agree on stuff I think most people fundamentally disagree with them on.
I'd much rather see Mike or Auraptor president than either Romney or Obama, and I frankly wouldn't care which one.
The idea that we should line up behind our partisan allied politicians is a trick of rhetoric and manipulation.
It requires that we only discuss and think about that maybe 5% of thing we have in common with our partisan candidates.

If this were old style democracy, I'd say it would be Mike/Rap or Rap/Mike, which would be harder, but here I think it's going to depend on the running mates for me.

There's a catchphrase I use on occasion relevant to that, just never seemed to ever use it here.
"Oh I can be bought, just not in any coin which is available to you."
There's also the difficulty of bribing someone who, on a smallish, personal scale, already *has* everything they ever wanted.

One would have to consider what I truly care about, what really matters to me, and then comprehend a morality almost completely alien to them in order to even try - not bloody likely.

An old friend of mine collected guitars. His philosophy was, "Everything I have is for sale. You just have to meet my price." I don't recall him ever selling a guitar.

Anyone who WANTS that kinda power shouldn't never be within a mile of it, any of em.

I hate, hate, hate being in charge of anything, and if pushed into it and my ethics require it then I would do it to the best of my ability - but I'll also weasel the hell out of it at the first chance to do so cause I want no goddamn part of it at all, it's too much headache, too much hassle, and I got major freakin *issues* with the idea of running other peoples lives for em in any way even if they beg me to.

I don't like being beholden to other people, or most days even associating with them, this to a degree which even influences my entertainment in regards to online gaming - once you are in a group with other people, you now have to take into account THEIR desires, intentions, schedules...
See, if you're by yourself, if you wanna get up and make a sandwich, say hell with it and do something else, you ain't negatively impacting no one else, but the MOMENT you get involved with anyone else you have that pressure of their will grinding against yours, and while tolerable to me for short periods of time if I like em well enough, it wearies me emotionally and grinds my nerves regardless - which is why I despise party-based gaming, of course.

Being put in charge of something is worse by an order of magnitude.
While some *might* say such an attitude makes for a good leader, I disagree.
Not just cause I have a serious Robespierrian bent I am very well aware of, but more so for another reason - those who don't want power are often inadvertently irresponsible with it.

Consider why they did not give Tom Bombadil The One Ring ?

Topping that is also a villainous perspective - the right hand man, the tactical advisor, the guy standing behind the throne... he usually gets away, or even hires on with the new regime.
Not so much for the guy sitting ON it, yes ?

Don't need it, don't want it, wouldn't take it.
