That's on the large side for a Husky, no ? 70lbs..and just look at him, all white and blue eyes... Aren't blue eyes more common in females ? Or maybe I'm thinking it's with open face markings... grrr, now I'm confusing myself. Oh well.

Yes, it's big for s Sibe, but BOTH my guys clock in at 70! Males are supposed to top out at 55, females at 45, but there's a lot of variety. As to the eyes, they can be blue, brown, bi-eyed, parti-eyed and any sex or color. Tho' I can't remember ever meeting a white Sibe with anything but blue eyes. He could ALSO be a mix of something else, too, you never know.

Aren't they a kick in the head? Some are just cutsey or faked, but enough of them are right on that both Jim and I laughed a lot. If they gave any smiles or giggles to others, then my work here is done. ;o)

Sibes are an endless source of amusement and entertainment. I never knew how much until we had them. There are certainly other breeds who are clowns and entertaining, but WE never had such amusing dogs...unintentionally so, I might add/

Yeah, Jim got a real chortle out of that one. I'd seen it before, but it sure is adorable, nonetheless.

He shocked me the other day by saying I could get ANOTHER husky for Xmas! I've joked about it, but never thought he'd THINK of such a thing! I guess I've grown up some, 'cuz after thinking about it for a couple of days, I said no; our income will be drastically reduced come the end of January 'cuz he's gonna try to quit finally, and there will be vet bills down the line... Plus there just ISN'T room on his bed! ;o) And I couldn't give the proper amount of attention to three dogs, much as I'd love to...

Tit for tat got us where we are today. If we want to be grownups, we need to resist the ugliness. If we each did, this would be a better reflection on Firefly and a more welcome place. I will try.

The addition of another dog, whether there's 1 or more in the family already, is always a tough thing. I know a guy who had 2 labs, brother and sister. The brother passed away a year or so ago, and the one remaining, isn't long for this world now either. Despite the joy they do bring, saying goodbye is so damn tough.

Of course, on the flip side, you not getting a new dog ( or any other critter ) doesn't mean there's not one out there, in need of a home. I'll probably get another dog, some day, but not anytime in the immediate future. And as much as I dig Huskies, they're a real handful. Dunno if I'd go back to one, unless I moved further north.

IF I outlive my guys (and Jim's still around), I've promised myself that I'll get a rescue. Never had "purebred" dogs or paid for a dog in my life, this was just something I always wanted to do and decided I'd do ONCE before I die. Mostly, tho', I'm against encouraging the breeding business--especially as there are so many puppy mills and backyard breeders as it is, and so many (especially huskies and pits) in need of a good home!

But I wouldn't take in a rescue at this point; especially with huskies, there can be a lot of problems to deal with in a rescue. Like you said, they're quite enough of a handfull as it is!

The dangers of changing the "pack" are currently affecting one of my BAM friends. They have SIX huskies (one a husky/mal/wolf rescue) in a small house with a postage-stamp back yard...I don't know how they do it! They sled in Winter, hence the number of dogs, and I think if Ed had his way, he'd keep getting more...

Their eldest, Tigger, just passed away and they got a new pup. The pack has been going through all kinds of hell, since Tigger was the alpha and kept everybody in line. They're working with the same consultant I am, trying to sort things out, and having a tough time of it. That's one reason I wouldn't add another; you never know how it will change the dynamic and, being a Cesar Millan fan, I've seen so many disasters when people add another dog to an existing family group...!

I'd be surrounded with 'em, too, if I were younger or more physically fit and had some land. But the way my bod keeps falling apart, no way!

Kochyok has changed the past few months--she JUST turned two and apparently matured. She doesn't want to play with Tashi as much, has been aggressive with some female dogs at the dog park, and is marking--previously she'd DIE before pissing outside the back yard (unless there was water to squat in!).

Per the consultant, Kochyok thinks the dog park belongs to her because her "pack" (Jim, Tashi and I) are there and she's familiar with it (ergo the aggressiveness), and Trish (the consultant) is against dog parks anyway--too many uncontrolled dogs (and irresponsible owners!). That takes away our one "easy" way to get them out.

I've developed another damned tendon problem, so can't take them to the beach in the damned boot (one of only two places they won't wander...much). I have about six months of work ahead of me to establish a reliable recall with Koch (yes, it can be done, according to Trish, and she REALLY knows her stuff!), but I can't start training until the tendon heals. So that leaves only two alternatives...sulkying and running them with the bikes on Crown Road (the only other place they won't run away). That makes things pretty damned tough.

So I know taking on another husky--especially a young one or a rescue--is just asking for trouble. But boy, would I LOVE another pup! As you said, "Despite the joy they do bring, saying goodbye is so damn tough." If I outlive these two and Jim's still around, I won't be without a dog. If Jim goes before me, it's not a problem, 'cuz I'm outta here when Tash and Koch are no longer around.

Gotta agree. The lady, has to be a little crazy to do what she does, but it's good that she's doing it. And she sounds anything but crazy. She's right about a few things, at least. That people have different strengths, and so do animals. And that Molly would be the one who determines if she wanted to deal w/ an artificial limb or not. Not sure how many ponies would take to it all that well, but she seems to have.

Also, this story is 4 years old now. Seems Molly had the prosthetic for 2 years, at the time of the story. Last update I can find is 2011, and it seems Molly is still up and about.

Props to the fine folks at LSU for taking a chance on Molly.

I agree too, Oonj, the woman is as inspiring as Molly.

Emma's a kick in the head...she's so full of shit, and seems to work much better with her prosthesis than Molly. Tho' she probably hasn't been through as much, and it's a hind leg, rather than a front leg.

Both of them are very courageous beasts, and are giving back in a wonderful way. Thank you, Oonj--in a day with all these discussions of guns and death, that was lovely.
