Appearing on a California talk radio show last week, famed conservative activist and Eagle Forum founder Phyllis Schlafly disputed the notion that the Latino vote would be worthwhile for the Republican Party because, she believes, they do not comprehend limited government.

After the radio host posited that Hispanic voters actually have a lot in common with the GOP, specifically due to their generally social conservative views, Schlafly reiterated her belief that Latinos are actually not a worthwhile pursuit for the party.

“They don’t have any Republican inclinations at all,” she said, “they’re running an illegitimacy rate that’s just about the same as the blacks are.”

She continued:

“They come from a country where they have no experience with limited government. And the types of rights we have in the Bill of Rights, they don’t understand that at all, you can’t even talk to them about what the Republican principle is.”

Last month, Schlafly advised the GOP to stop its pursuit of Latino voters. Instead, she said, the party should focus on capturing more of the white vote. http://www.mediaite.com/online/conservative-activist-latinos-not-worth

Blacks and Latinos lack Republican inclinations, eh? Tell that to Rubio and Cain, Conda Rice and others.

Paraphrased. "A minority vote that's soon to become the majority is not worth the effort."

Amen. I reeeeely hate to see it; I dream of a country when there are many of all races in both parties... But apparently that's not what the Republicans want (or at least far too many of them); they seem to want an all-white party deciding what's right for all the races, which saddens me.

That's a complete lie and you know it.

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

"It's not a lie if you believe it." ... George Costanza

Besides, Republicans are gonna be in real good shape with Hispanics for the next national election with popular Hispanic politicians like Rubio and Cruz, and Martinez. Even Jeb Bush, 'cause Hispanics love him and his Mexican-American wife. Think about that...Jeb Bush winning the Presidency....the next phase of the Bush dynasty! The ultimate payback for the Obama debacle.

Non-white candidates have to make it through the NOMINATION process first to be elected, and pretty much any attempt a candidate makes to reach out to any but white voters kills his chances with the Republican "base" these days. Not to mention that Latinos aren't as stupid as Schlafly thinks. The vast majority of what the Republicans do, not to mention SAY, is pretty easy to interpret.

Sen. Marco Rubio's favorability drops among GOP voters, takes immigration hit

The willingness of Sen. Marco Rubio to work across the aisle on immigration reform isn’t helping him out with GOP voters, a new poll shows. Mr. Rubio is viewed favorably by 58 percent of Republican voters, according to new numbers from Rasmussen, but that figure has dropped 10 points from last month and 15 points since February. The name of the Florida Republican, thought to be one of the party’s rising stars and a potential 2016 GOP presidential nominee, actually elicited boos at a rally hosted last week by Rep. Steve King, Iowa Republican. http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/inside-politics/2013/jun/25/sen-ma

As for Cruz,
Quote:

Ted Cruz fast becoming ‘most hated man in Senate’

AUSTIN, Texas -- — In the first few months of his first term in the United States Senate, Ted Cruz has been, for all practical purposes, the human equivalent of one of those flower-squirters that clowns wear on their lapels. His initiatives can often seem like non-sequiturs — he has proposed defunding the United Nations over forced abortions in China. And his statements can seem almost self defeating, such as when he described decorated war veterans Chuck Hagel and John Kerry as “less than ardent fans of the U.S. military.”

He’s also been a headache for GOP leaders, expressing reluctance to back fellow Texas Republican John Cornyn for minority whip on the grounds that he had to make sure the candidate he supported would “stand and fight for conservative principles.” (National Journal ranked Cornyn as the second-most conservative member in the pre-Cruz Senate last year.) http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/04/02/3319734/ted-cruz-fast-becoming-m
ost-hated.html#storylink=cpy
]

Cruz is great for the "base", but the "base" and the Tea Party haven't done much for the Republicans on the national scale. And if Rubio's SUPPORT for immigration won't help him, Cruz's diatribes AGAINST it (he calls it “politically foolish” and “terrible for the country”) will go over ever worse with Latino voters: "Ted Cruz blasts Gang of Eight immigration reform bill on Rush Limbaugh show"; http://newsok.com/ted-cruz-blasts-gang-of-eight-immigration-reform-bil
l-on-rush-limbaugh-show/article/feed/556227

Problem is, when you're determined to focus on only one race (and only part of that race even then), and any attempt to actually appeal to any other race is anathema to your base, you're just screwing yourself.

But oh, yes, please DO save that one for posterity, Mal4, it's a keeper. Should be good for a laugh down the line.
